Home Remedies For Dandruff - 2 Natural Dandruff Remedies You Can Make At Home
By
Anne CresacreDandruff (pityriasis capitis), although extremely common, can still be a very annoying and unpleasant condition.
Thankfully it can be cured by using simple natural home remedies for dandruff that you can make quickly and easily.
The dandruff itself is usually a result of the excessive growth of yeast organisms such as Malassezia Globosa and Pityrosporum Ovale. These organisms are normally always present on the skin in small numbers and feed on the natural oil (sebum) secreted by your hair follicles.
When they multiply they can irritate the skin and causing the visible flaking that we know as dandruff.
Other causes for dandruff are stress-related; the use of harsh shampoos and conditioners that dry out the scalp; poor nutrition; or cold, dry weather conditions.
Home Remedies For Dandruff
Apple Cider Vinegar has been used for centuries as an old folk remedy to successfully get rid of dandruff. The great thing about this remedy is the acidity of the vinegar helps to stabilize the pH balance of the scalp and kills the fungus. Try this recipe below and see how you go:
1) Thoroughly wash your hair with a mild, pH-balanced shampoo. There's no need to use a dandruff shampoo as the apple cider vinegar will gradually get rid of the dandruff problem.
2) Mix a two-to-one ratio of apple cider vinegar and warm water (two vinegar to one water). If you want to cleanse and condition your scalp further and add a fragrance to your hair then you can always a couple of drops of essential oils such as lavender or rosemary - both excellent for getting rid of itchy scalps and dandruff. (Always patch test oils for allergies, and always consult your doctor if you are pregnant).
3) Pour or spray the mixture directly onto your scalp. Massage it in and leave to dry on your hair. There's no need to rinse it out (unless the smell bothers you).
4) In cases of more stubborn dandruff, make the mixture stronger, try a one-to-one ratio of vinegar to water. Applying undiluted vinegar directly to the scalp can also do the trick. Leave it on for around 15 minutes and then wash the vinegar out using a mild, pH-balanced shampoo.
5)If possible always try to use raw undiluted apple cider vinegar as this will give the best results when getting rid of dandruff. Lemon juice can also be used instead of vinegar.
Fenugreek seeds are another excellent home remedy for dandruff:
Take 2 tablespoons of fenugreek seeds and soak overnight in water
In the morning grind the soft seeds into a fine paste
Apply this paste all over scalp and leave for half an hour
Rinse off thoroughly with soap nut solution
A teaspoon of lime juice on the last rinse will work wonders
In addition to these home remedies for dandruff, brushing your hair daily will help to disperse the dandruff from your hair and improve the circulation of your scalp. Giving your scalp a good massage before or after brushing will also help to improve circulation and remove flakiness.

Essential Oils - Use with Lotion to Moisturize and Soften the Skin
By
Judy LauschDo you have to wash your hands often? As a nurse, I probably wash my hands at least 20 times a day. Does winter or dry weather leave you with rough, chapped hands? I find that my hands need special attention in the winter. This article gives ways to use healing essential oils in simple recipes for lotion that will soften the skin and effectively replenish moisture to rough, dry hands.
I have found the simplest way to use essential oils with lotion is to add my favorite oils to a quality, non-scented, non-perfumed, natural lotion base. This recipe is for a great moisturizing lotion for the skin:
· 8 ounces of lotion base
· 15 drops of geranium
· 10 drops of myrrh
· 5 drops of ylang ylang.
Always use only pure therapeutic grade essential oils. Add the essential oils to the lotion base, gently mix the solution, and add a label with the ingredients to the container. Geranium and myrrh are classic essential oils for healing the skin. I add ylang ylang just because I love its aroma. A very important principle of aromatherapy is that the consumer likes the aroma. If they don't like it, they won't use it. There are many possibilities.
For chapped hands, try adding 10 drops each of rosewood, patchouli and geranium to around 8 ounces of a quality unperfumed lotion base. Apply on location as needed.
For dry skin, try adding 10 drops each of rose, Roman chamomile, and sandalwood to 8 ounces of lotion base. Be certain that only pure, therapeutic grade essential oils are used.
If you are interested in making your own lotion to add the essential oils to, this very old recipe will help cool and soften the skin, as well as clean stains from hands:
· 1 ounce of rosewater (floral essential oil water)
· 1 ounce of fresh squeezed lemon juice
· 1 ounce of glycerin
· 10 drops of your choice of therapeutic grade essential oils
Put all of these ingredients together in a clean container and shake well. Label the bottle with the ingredients and instructions to shake well before using each time and store in the refrigerator.
This needs to be used in 2-3 weeks, so it is wise to make small amounts at a time.
Here is another recipe for a winter lotion:
· 1/2 cup of distilled water or rosewater
· 1/2 cup of jojoba carrier oil
· 1 Tablespoon of lecithin
· 1 capsule of Vitamin E
· 10-20 drops of your choice of pure therapeutic grade essential oils
Put the water/rosewater, jojoba and lecithin in a blender and whip until it forms a nice lotion. You can add more water/rosewater if you desire a thinner lotion. Cut open the vitamin E capsule and add the Vitamin E and essential oils at the end. Mix well. Store in clean container and label with the ingredients. Lecithin is an emulsifier, or mixing agent, that helps oil and water stay together
While a cream is a vegetable oil with water added, making it is an ideal moisturizer for dry skin, lotion contains more water than oil, so it is thinner and less oily. The consistency of lotion makes it ideal for normal to oily skin. It has the quality of spreading easily and doesn't leave an oily coat over the skin. Adding essential oils enhances its therapeutic value.

3 Deadly Skin Care Myths
By
Mark AleksYour skin is one of the most important components to beauty. Clean, young, vibrant looking skin can increase a woman and man's attractiveness ten fold. The tricky part is there are hundreds of myths out there that can destroy the beauty of your skin.
Are any of those myths having an effect on your skin?
Here are 3 myths that could have a deadly effect on the beauty of your skin, and how to overcome them to create and keep beautiful skin.
1. Wearing SunscreenThe concept of using sunscreen to protect your skin from the harmful sun is good. However, the problem is that most sunscreens contain active ingredients which are harmful chemicals.
Depending on the sunscreen, the chemicals may include Benzophenones, PABA and PABA esters, Cinnamates, Salicylates, Digalloyl trioleate, Menthyl anthranilate and Avobenzone. The Environmental Working Group found 84% of sunscreens are harmful to consumers.
Solution:
A surprisingly good natural sun block comes from broccoli extract. It has been found to produce a matrix of protective enzymes that defend against damage from UV exposure.
2. Buying the Best Smelling, Best Looking Skin LotionsEveryone loves shopping at the mall and smelling skin lotions. In fact, the smell and look of a lotion are the biggest reasons people buy it. Unfortunately, the smell and look in most products are created artificially. And when it's created artificially, it is harmful to your skin. It may make your skin feel moist, but on the cellular level it is speeding up the aging process.
Solution:
Look for lotions that have all natural, or even better, all organic fragrances and coloring.
3. Using Soapy Soap
After watching Dove Soap commercials you can't help but want to use soaps to lather your body clean. Soaps can do rather the opposite though. They tend to clog your pores due to the ingredients that make the soap a solid. That leads to acne and also takes away the vibrant look on the skin.
Solution:
Try to use less harsh and/or organic soaps, and use cleansers on your face more often.
These myths come totally unexpected considering our culture practices them everyday. Being aware of them and creating new healthy habits can have profound effects on aging.
With your skin, the smallest changes begin to make the biggest differences, just as these 3 myths can dramatically impact the beauty of your skin.

Shea Butter As A Moisturizer and Emollient
By
Joseph KishShea butter is natural fat extracted from fruit of the shea tree. It is especially known for its cosmetic properties as a moisturizer and emollient. Shea butter is a popular ingredient in many products.
It is so safe that shea butter is edible. It can be consumed in foods and is also used in the manufacture of chocolate as a substitute for cocoa butter. The two kinds of shea butter available are unrefined certified organic and chemically refined.
Unrefined shea butter is processed without chemicals. The chemically refined shea butter is bleached, heated, and solvent extracted using a petrol-chemical. Purist claim the chemically refined version lacks the healing properties found in unrefined organic shea butter.
Shea butter is also a known for its anti-inflammatory properties. It is also used for treating skin conditions such as burns, rashes, fading scars, eczema, severely dry skin, and in reducing the irritation of psoriasis. Shea butter provides some natural UV sun protection although the level of protection varies and should not be relied on.
Shea butter is available in many expensive moisturizing skin products. It is also used in high quality hair conditioners to add moisture in dry hair, and reconditioning split ends. This butter has been used for centuries by the people of Africa to moisturize and protect their skin from sun, wind, heat and salt water.
Shea Butter is also used as hairdressing to moisturize a dry scalp and encourage hair growth. It is also used to hold hairstyles and lightly relax curls. One of the richest emollients available, scarcities of the supply of shea butter results in an erratic market price Shea Butter is frequently used in massage to create a frictionless surface on the skin, allowing for therapeutic deep tissue work.
It also acts as excellent base for the addition of medical and cosmetic ingredients. It is a key ingredient in the most reputable beauty products and soaps, only recently gaining recognition in the United States in products like Revitol. Shea Butter can actually help stimulate collagen production in the skin, making it very effective in helping to reduce wrinkles, burns, and scars.
The anti-inflammatory properties of Shea butter have been studied for medical use. It has been found to be useful in cases of arthritis and in cases of rheumatism.
Shea butter has also been studied as a nasal decongestant by application to the inside of the nostrils. It can also be helpful in cases of eczema and dermatitis and can help reduce skin bruising and soreness.

What Are the Best Tanning Bed Lotions?
By
Timothy CroyIt is truly amazing how many different types tanning bed lotions are on the market today. You can go online at any time and find a myriad of different lotions to purchase. Finding the type of lotion that best suits you is an easy task when you can access the internet. Because of the high demand for these tanning lotions, manufactures and companies have worked together to create some of the best products for us to use.
Exactly how could one define tanning bed lotion? Well, simply put, it is a type of gelatinous body gel that is applied to help produce a tan. There are hundreds of ways for a person to produce a tan. Perhaps the most popular means is laying in the sun for a few hours. However, in todays busy world, seldom can find the time.
Before applying anything to your skin you should know what is in it. Most of these tanning bed lotions contain a particular ingredients called 'tyrosine', a type of amino acid. These amino acids help accelerate the production of pigments called 'melanin'. Melanin are responsible for tanning of the skin.
Another key ingredient of tanning lotions is Vitamin-E. Vitamin-E is a very good anti-oxidant, and helps to work against the development of wrinkles. It is also common for lotions to contain copper as well. Many of these lotions have started to include ingredients to help protect the skin from the harmful effects of UV rays.
Why should I use a tanning lotion? The benefits of applying these lotions before tanning are too many to mention. They will maintain youthful and attractive skin tone. There is a reason celebrities and models continually promote these products. That is because these products are proven to work.
Tanning bed lotions help keep the skin protected from the harmful effects of the sun rays. They also enrich the skin with vitamins and proteins. It has been proven by scientists and dermatologist that using tanning or moisturizing lotions will help give you a better skin quality in comparison to those who do not use tanning or moisturizing lotions. With all the various types of lotions on the market today, one has the choice to pick the one that best suits you.
When your buying these lotions take care of what brand name and ingredients you are purchasing. Try to find those most popular with dermatologists. Even though the price may be a bit high, you can be assured the product in the bottle is well worth it. Try to keep an eye out for these key ingredients of tyrosine , vitamin-E. copper, and moisturizing ingredients. Keep in mind excessively using lotions might help deteriorate the quality of your skin by causing skin tissue damage. Some evidence points to the fact that excessively using tanning bed lotions may lead to the onset of skin cancer.
For a more rewarding experience, you can also obtain scented lotions. Cosmetic shops and tanning salons often carry a wide selection of lotions to chose from. They will always amaze you with what products are available. Add a sexy tan on your curvaceous body and make every ones eyes turn.

Skin Lightening Products - 4 Tips To Choosing The Right Product To Safely Lighten Your Skin
By
Cavyl StewartOne thing people find most challenging about skin lightening products is choosing the right product for their skin type. The effectiveness of the lightening process and your personal safety should weigh heavily when choosing these types of treatments. After all, what you want is lighter skin, not an uneven skin tone, blotches, peeling and skin cancer. So how do you choose the right products?
Product and Ingredient InformationThese may not be edible but they can still cause you a lot of harm. This is why it is important that products like these should come with comprehensive product information for the benefit of consumers. Product information should ideally detail how a product lightens skin color and what ingredients it contains.
Ingredient lists however won't do you a lot of good if you are not a chemist or a skin expert. Skin lightening products should ideally have some data too on the effects of each ingredient on the skin. Wherever possible you should also do some research on the ingredients since there are some ingredients that just don't belong in skin products because they may cause injury to the skin or even cancer. There are also some ingredients like hydroquinone that can only be contained in a specific and limited amount.
Check out the manufacturer
Both reputable and disreputable products and manufacturers are bound to have something published about them. If you want to get effective and safe products, then you should always consider product reviews and independent endorsements. Naturally, good products would also be more likely to get certified by organizations of skin experts.
When choosing skin lightening products consider the reputation of the manufacturer and product certification if available. Manufacturers should be well recommended by some experts and a great number of consumers. Their products should also have been properly regulated and certified safe by national product boards and professional organizations.
Match skin lightening products to your skin condition
Different people have different reasons why they want to lighten their skin. At the same time, there are also different reasons for dark skin. You may have naturally dark skin while others need very specific products because their skin have been damaged by exposure to sunlight or acne. You might want to check that your product can deal with your specific skin type or condition.
Follow product directions carefully
Skin lightening products that have been carefully manufactured come with ingredients in a specific, standard quantity. If the ingredients are particularly potent or reactive, you may hurt your skin by using these products too much. Make sure that the product of your choice has indications on how to use it as well as any warnings on how not to use it.
They can help you achieve your goal of getting lighter, brighter and glowing skin. Just remember to shop carefully and follow the above tips to ensure that you choose the right products that will not only give you the results you want but also avoid any possible negative reactions.
And now I'd like to invite you to visit my skin care blog for more free articles, tips and reviews on skin treatments and conditions including
skin lightening products. Author, Cavyl Stewart -

Bath Salts, Oils and Gels - Recipes for Self-Care
By
Judy LauschBath products such as bath salts, bath oils and bath gels can provide a holistic method for a natural approach to skin care and relaxation. For centuries people from around the world have enjoyed the benefits of a long, relaxing soak in the tub. In today's fast-paced world we need to spend more time de-stressing ourselves and cleansing our body, mind and spirit. Baths can be relaxing, healing, and a great way for self-care.
One of my favorite quotes about essential oils comes from the father of medicine: Hippocrates. In 500 BC, he wrote: the way to health is to have an aromatic bath and scented massage every day. Yes!
Since oil and water do not mix, essential oils added directly to a bath will float on top. If you add them directly, be sure to add them after the bath is drawn, and use your hand to swish them around in the water. You may note that there will be a residue in your tub. A better way is to add the essential oils to a carrier, such as a tablespoon of carrier oil such as canola or almond oil. You could also add them to milk or honey as a means of dispersing the essential oils in the bath water.
But this article is about bath salts, oils and gels: fabulous ways to indulge your senses, refresh your soul, and pamper your skin.
Bath salts are very easy to prepare. The following is a base recipe for a single bath:
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons Epsom salts
3 teaspoons of sea salt
6-10 drops either a single therapeutic grade essential oil, such as true lavender, or a blend of two or three of your favorite essential oils
Please be certain that the oils you use are of only the best quality. Mix all of the ingredients together well, and add to your bath water. Most people make larger batches, and after mixing well, they store them in jars. To make larger batches, simply increase the ingredients proportionately. Put the salts in clean container.
Use beautiful jars for wonderful gifts. Also, children find making bath salts in a lot of fun.
Which therapeutic grade essential oils to use? Check with your aromatherapist for your specific conditions, but here are a couple of my favorite recipes:
For relaxation in the evening before bedtime I like add a blend of 4 drops of true lavender, 2 drops of bergamot, and 2 drops of mandarin or tangerine. I add these drops to the base recipe, and then add the salts to the water, light some tea candles, dim the lights, and relax for about 20 minutes in a medium hot (100 degrees F) bath. Ummmm! Lovely!
Had a hard day? Kinda sore with some over-worked muscles? For this my favorite blend of essential oils is 4 drops of true lavender, 2 drops of cypress, and 2 drops of balsam fir or rosemary. Add this to the salts and put into a hot bath (100-108 degrees F). Submerge yourself for 20-30 minutes. There are all sorts of possibilities.
Hot baths (100-108 degrees F) help increase circulation, and are good for insomnia and aching muscles. Warm baths (96-100 degrees F) are good for relaxation. Tepid baths (92-99 degrees F) are therapeutic. This is the temperature to use when adding oils to relieve hives, itching, and skin rashes. The heat of the water helps open the pores, allowing the healing essential oils penetrate the skin for therapeutic effects.
Since an important part of being a healer is to practice self-care. I often give students an assignment to practice self-care and report back the next morning what they did. Often, the method of self-care they choose is an indulgent bath with salts laced with therapeutic essential oils.
People who prefer showers can also benefit from the therapeutic effect of essential oils by simply adding a few drops of the oils to a washcloth before showering. In my shower I have a rejuvenating blend of the following essential oils in a jojoba carrier:
16 drops of true lavender
8 drops of rosemary,
8 drops of peppermint,
8 drops of juniper
2 ounces of jojoba carrier oil
After my morning shower, while I am still wet, I take about 1 teaspoon of the blend and smooth it over my skin. Then I lightly pat myself dry with a towel. Wonderful!
Bath gels are very popular today and can be used with either bath or shower. You can customize your gel with your favorite essential oils by blending them with this simple recipe:
½ cup of unscented shampoo
¼ to ¾ cup of water (using more or less according to your preference)
¾ teaspoon of salt
10-15 drops of your choice therapeutic essential oils
I also like to cut open a capsule of vitamin E and add it to the gel, along with about 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel, but these last two ingredients are optional. Use about ¼ cup of the gel per shower or bath.
Be sure to label your bath products with the ingredients you used, and journal your recipe so that you can remember what you used when you decide to do this again.

Caring For The Skin - How to Look Irresistible at 30
By
Andrey PriobrazhenskiyAging, carrier take-offs and downfalls, and even pregnancy can cause changes in face skin color and also might have an effect on feelings. It might happen that you notice little crows-feet around your eyes and mouth, pale skin and even acne.
Caring for the skin: crows-feet around eyes
Skin around eyes is most thin and sensitive. Compared to plane face moisturizers that retain moisture and elasticity, face-creams for the skin around eyes contain active ingredients and preservatives in less quantity, that's why they have more delicate effect.
When choosing cream, make sure in contains such main ingredients as sun blocking filter and antioxidants. If you need additional support, look for certain ingredients, such as caffeine and magnolia extract which reduces swells; Echinacea that calms the skin, or vitamin K which reduces dark circles around eyes.
Caring slows skin aging. Below are simple recommendations for anti-aging skin caring:
1. Don't forget about peeling. When you are over thirty, skin replacement slows down and that leads to pale skin and color of you face skin might not be even. To fight this problem do regular peeling with subsequent moisturizing.
2. Take vitamins. Even single multivitamin complex provides your system with most of the needed vitamins and minerals. Doctors also recommend calcium food supplements.
3. Exercise. Weight lifting tonic your bones and muscles.
4. Drink more water. This is the simplest rule for skin care. Water helps to remove toxins from your system and keeps your skin clean and also strengthens your immune system.
5. Avoid using intensive chemical cosmetic means. Natural remedies are an optimal solution. Use organic remedies for skin care (whether homemade or mass production ) - the are quite effective against aging.
6. Keep cosmetics clean. Regularly change sponges and other materials for cosmetics - average time of use for cosmetics is 6 to 12 months. Don't buy too expensive items, which would be sorry to throw away.
7. Protect your skin against sun. Use sun blocking cream and avoid being in the open sun from 10a.m. to 2 p.m.
8. Don't smoke! Skin is just one of your organs, though large, and it requires sufficient blood circulation. Smoking affects normal blood circulation. That's why skin of smokers is pale and limp. Instead of oxygen reach blood it receives toxins and oxidants.
Healthy beautiful skin is natural for young girls, but when you are thirty, you need to make some effort to preserve skin. Some attention, persistence and efforts - and you achieve success. Results are clearly worth it. Live fulfilling life and care for your skin.

Make Your Own Body Scrub in 4 Easy Steps
By
Naweko N San-joyzSometimes winter can turn your formerly soft skin lizard-dry. Even slathering on layers of moisturizers may not adequately hydrate your skin. Infusing your skin with long-lasting moisture could be a matter of timing. For example, smoothing your skin with moisture-trapping humectants like jojoba oil while your skin is slightly wet helps your chosen moisturizer keep your skin hydrated longer.
With that, it makes sense to apply your lotion or moisturizer in the shower. But when you opt for a body scrub instead of just a body lotion, you can further sooth the scaly look of dry skin. Plus, while saturating your skin with moisture, body scrubs also remove dead layers of the skin that can exaggerate the look of dry skin.
Ingredients for making a body scrub:
16 ounces of crushed sea salt
8-12 ounces of a natural base oil (almond, jojoba, olive, sesame and borage are a few examples of the types of oils you may use)
2 ounces of glycerin
1 ounce of vitamin E
2-7 drops of your favorite essential oil (lavender, grapefruit, eucalyptus, jasmine, rose and geranium are a few examples of essential oils that you may choose from)
Utensils:
1 large stirring spoon
1 32 ounce jar with a lid to store your body scrub in
1 large bowl for mixing
Mixing directions:
1. In a large bowl, combine the natural base oil, vitamin E and essential oil. Stir the oils together with a spoon for two minutes to help the oils blend into a consistent mixture.
Note: Not consistently blending the oils will give your body scrub an unbalanced feel, meaning that the essential oil may be concentrated in certain parts of your body scrub and not others.
2. Add the glycerin to the oil mixture and blend for one minute.
3. Slowly pour in the crushed sea salt while mixing it with the other ingredients. Keep pouring the crushed sea salt until the body scrub reaches a consistency that you prefer. For example, having a higher concentration of salt exfoliates the skin more, while increasing the concentration of oils makes for a gentler, more moisturizing scrub.
4. Scoop the scrub into a jar, cover it with a lid and store it until you are ready to use it.
There you have it, a unique spa-grade body scrub just for you. Each time you make a body scrub, you can alter the base oil and essential oils to create a new sensual experience each time you shower.

Winter Skin Care - Eleven Tips for Keeping Skin Moisturized in the Cold, Dry Air
By
Jamie JeffersonAs winter blasts its cold, dry air, your skin can lose its natural moisture. Wind and sun can add to the effect, and so can hot, dry air from heaters and furnaces.
Here are eleven tips to help you keep your skin soft and moisturized during the winter months.
1. Take care of yourself from the inside out by drinking plenty of water. Make sure to get your 64 ounces of water each day. It can really help to bring your water bottle everywhere you go. Choose a sturdy, reusable aluminum bottle so you can be sure plastic won't be leaching hazardous chemicals into your water (and you won't be contributing to the landfills with your daily water intake).
2. Run your humidifier in your home or office.
3. During the bath or shower, if your skin is very dry, use a hydrating soapless cleanser. Soaps and shaving products can dry your skin, so be careful what you use, and avoid extremely hot baths and showers, which can dry your skin as well.
4. Look for moisturizers with vitamins A, D, and E (which will help your skin retain moisture.) Once you find a lotion or skin cream that you love, you may still need to reapply it throughout the day (generally whenever your skin feels dry or itchy).
5. Don't forget your sunscreen. The sun's rays can be damaging even in the wintertime, when snow reflects the sunlight, so make sure you apply a sunscreen with at least SPF15 to any area of your body that will be exposed. It's particularly important to use sunscreen on your face.
6. During cold and flu season, frequent hand washing can certainly help keep us from healthy, but it can also cause our hands to feel dry, and they may even crack and split. Antibacterial liquid soap can be particularly rough on skin. Opt for a mild hand cleanser that moisturizes your hands as it cleans.
7. Wear rubber gloves whenever you are dealing with cleansing products, including dish soap.
8. Dry your hands completely after washing them to avoid chapping, and apply hand lotion after each cleansing.
9. Wear gloves outdoors to protect your skin from the extreme cold. Apply a bit of hand lotion on your hands before you tuck your hands into gloves or mittens.
10. Keep your feet hydrated by slathering on a thick foot crème at night and wearing socks.
11. For super soft lips, exfoliate them once in a while. Simply run a soft toothbrush (without toothpaste) under warm water and very gently brush your lips to wipe away dead skin. Follow this treatment with quality lip balm. And make sure any lip color you use is moisturizing.
Reapply lip balm again just before bed.

The Recipe for Dry Skin Care
By
Roger MitchellDry skin cannot be ignored as it leads to cracking of the upper layer of skin and gives it a real bad appearance. The main causes include: dry climate, hormonal changes, too much exfoliation and treatment of other skin disorders. Moreover, dryness could be the inherent nature of one's skin. Whatever be the cause, care is very important (but not very difficult).
'Dry skin care' starts with moisturisers, the most effective remedy for dry skin. Generally moisturisers are classified under 2 categories based on the way they provide.
The first category includes moisturisers that provide is just by preserving the moisture within the skin e.g. Vaseline. These moisturisers are relatively inexpensive and are readily available (even at grocery shops).
The second category includes moisturisers that work by drawing moisture from the environment and supplying it to the skin. This is a very effective way in humid conditions. The moisturisers that provide in this way are also called humectants. For proper care, you must use a non-greasy type of moisturiser, as far as possible. Humectants fall in this category. The ingredients of humectants include propylene glycol, urea, glycerine, hyaluronic acid etc
'Dry skin care' is not about just using moisturisers but also using them properly. The best procedure is to cleanse the skin before the application of moisturiser. You can make it even more effective by applying the moisturiser while the skin is still damp (after cleansing). Also, make sure that you use soap-free products (especially on your face, neck and arms).
Exfoliation does help by removing the dead skin cells. However, don't exfoliate too hard. Your procedures/products should also take care of sun protection. Avoid too much and too direct exposure to sun (simply by using an umbrella/hat etc). Use a good sunscreen lotion before going out. A lot of moisturisers provide sun protection too.
You also have natural products that provide 'dry skin care' in a natural way (without the use of synthetic chemicals). These products supply lipid enhancements to the skin, hence enabling moisture retention within the skin. Another, important thing is the temperature of water you use for shower or for washing your face - Use warm water; too hot or too cold water can cause dryness too.
It is also about being gentle with your skin. You should avoid harsh detergents and alcohol based cleansers. Also, after a face wash, do not rub your towel on your face, just pat gently to soak the water off.
On the whole, caring for your dry skin is really simple for anyone who takes that seriously.

Pssst - Your Hands Need Proper Skin Care Too!
By
Sharon A BellWhenever you think about skincare, your mind immediately focuses on your face. Well, you are not alone in this; the truth is many people concentrate their beauty regimen solely on their faces while they fail to take care of the other areas of their skin. It is as if the skin located on the back, arms, or hands is resistant to the effects of time and toxins in the environment.
This mistaken belief holds special significance when it comes to the hands. Chances are, you are among those who believe that their hands are doing perfectly OK as long as they are able to move the fingers or clench and grab objects. But the truth is that the skin on your hands needs the same, if not more enhanced attention if you want to maintain your youthful appearance.
Your neglect for the skin on your hands will cause its deterioration by allowing age spots, collagen deprivation, and dryness to develop. When all these conditions are present, your hands will also have very thin skin and will be prone to cuts and breakouts. Besides, neglecting your hands while giving all your TLC to your face just doesn't' make sense.
However, by following three simple steps, you can improve the skin on your hands without distracting you off your facial skin care. And by taking good care of your hands, you may even help improve the skin on your face and your overall appearance. So get on with the program below.
Keep Out The Sunshine
The sun may be a source for some of the most beneficial nutrients needed by the body, just like Vitamin D. But generally speaking, plenty of sun exposure may not be good for your skin.
Sunlight between the hours of 10AM and 3PM can hasten the dehydration process and lead to the development of age spots, dry scales and cracked skin on your hands.
The best way to deal with sunlight is by applying sun block or sunscreen. Check out the right amount of SPF for your skin; but the rule of thumb when it comes to sun protection is the higher the SPF, the better.
Satisfy The Thirst
It is not just your throat that can feel all the thirst. Your skin is constantly giving off essential moisture; and the situation can be worse in your hand area because of all the things you do with your hands. So the best way to save the skin on your hands is to give it all the water it needs.
You can satisfy the thirst felt by the skin on your hands by drinking plenty of water. Many people forget that water is vital not only for the total well-being but for the health of the skin too. Drinking water may be the best way to replenish all that lost moisture. And it also comes for free.
Apart from drinking plenty of water, you should also consider investing in a bottle of moisturizing lotion or other hand creams. Applying these products as a daily part of your beauty regimen will help your skin trap in all the moisture and shed off dead skin cells which may be quite abundant in your hands.
Deal With Aging
You can not deny the fact that the aging process is out to damage your skin. It does not matter if you have done all that is necessary to lock in the moisture in your skin and protect it from sunlight. Sooner or later, your skin will sag, spots and wrinkles will appear; but not if you can help it.
As you approach the age of forty, it is time for you to appreciate anti-aging lotions and creams. These products can help delay the onslaught of the aging process; in some degree, these products can even reverse the effects that aging has on your skin.
But always remember that it is important to look for the product that is right for your skin. To eliminate the age spots on your hands, you can use products like Lumnaderm. Visit www.lumnaderm.com for more details.

How to Prevent Stress Related Skin, Hair and Nail Problems
By
Naweko N San-joyzAt one time, the link between stress and beauty problems like acne was considered mythical.
But now, even dermatologists like Flor A. Mayoral, MD who serves as a clinical instructor at the University of Miami, can no longer deny the connection between stress and cosmetic problems.
Just recently, Dr. Mayoral told colleagues at a American Academy of Dermatology's SKIN academy that dermatologist have, "...[K]nown for years - that psychological stress adversely affects the normal functions of the skin."
Those functions include hair and nail growth, along with skin flare-ups like pimples and rashes.
Controlling stress induced acne
Stress can provoke acne in a variety of ways. For example, as an individual experiences stress, the level of the body's stress hormone (cortisol) increases. This hormonal change causes an increase in oil production, which can lead to oily skin, acne and similar skin problems.
Dr. Mayoral adds that even patients with skin not normally affected by acne can experience temporary stress-related acne due to increased oil production.
So how can you stop stressed provoked acne? Dr. Mayoral comments, "Being in control of your situation can help relieve stress." To help patients better manage acne outbreaks under duress, Dr. Mayoral recommends that they "safely" use their acne medication more frequently to counter the effects of stress.
If acne drugs are not an option, acne sufferers can apply a clay mask during stressful times to reduce the effect of excess oil production.
Don't let your hair fall out
Dr. Mayoral suspects that stress may be the primary reason for unexplained hair loss. During stressful times, the hair can go into the telogen (fall-out) phase. In fact an event called "telogen effluvium" is a hair loss problem that can happen up to three months after a stressful situation. However, after this spontaneous loss, the hair typically grows back in six to nine months.
That phenomenon gives a whole new meaning to the phrase, "Stressed today, bald tomorrow."
Besides stress, Dr. Mayoral explains that life-changing events such as childbirth or surgery also can cause hair loss. At moments like these, the body takes a "time-out" from growing hair to concentrate on recovery and healing. Meanwhile, hair does not grow as much and some could shed and not grow back right away.
Bumps in the nails
Biting one's nails is an ostentatious sign of nervousness. Dr. Mayoral discusses a more subtle way of ruining the nails. When you rub your fingers over the thumb nail, this can create a ridge across the nail. The rubbing action distorts the nail plate, and when the nail grows, a raised ridge forms in the middle of the nail.
Besides rubbing and biting nails, physical or emotional stress; certain diseases; and chemotherapy can cause white horizontal lines to appear across the nails. Brittle, peeling nails can also accompany stress.
Dr. Mayoral offers these tips to curb the effects of stress both internally and externally:
Learn to recognize the underlying problem that is triggering your symptoms and develop skills to help minimize the stress.
Exercise helps release endorphins in the body that can reduce stress.
Avoid very hot showers or baths and use detergent-free soaps. Moisturize as soon as possible after bathing.
Stress suffers can also seek help from self-care books, support groups, friends and counselors. But the key to preventing stress from ruining your image is to recognize the root cause of your stress. From there, finding a solution to your aesthetic ills becomes easier.

Make Your Skin Look Gorgeous Again!
By
Jakob NeubertIt's not difficult to find nice fashionable clothes to make you look hot if that's what you really need. Similarly, it is quite easy to find a good salon where they do your hair the right way and make you look smashing.
What about your skin? What is there to do about imperfect skin? Oh, you might say there are many cosmetic products meant to hide imperfection and by artfully 'painting' your face you will conceal any freckles, spots and wrinkles. Hm...the truth is, skin foundation may solve part of your problem but you should know that it can't make your complexion look much better. If you really want to repair you skin, you will have to treat it so that it looks good without the makeup. Then, when you put some makeup on, you will definitely look gorgeous.
Little problems like the ones above can be successfully fought in a couple of minutes. If you want to refresh the look of your skin and get rid of some freckles and a couple of spots, you only have to apply a chemical peel on your face. It'll solve the issue in no time. A good peel like the salicylic peel will soften your skin and clean it deeply, removing dead cells and other superficial imperfections of the skin in only 3 minutes. When you wash your face you will see the difference: softer and brighter skin, a new face! It's as simple as that.
Yet, what should you do to improve your skin if you are dealing with a more serious condition, like acne? Are you doomed by definition or is there something you can do? Acne is one terrible enemy of most teenagers, that's right, but we can find reliable medication to put an end to it.
Isotretinoin, for instance, derived form Vitamin A, is known to reduce the production of sebum and shrink the sebaceous glands; this prevents the formation of comedones and, as a result, your skin will regain its natural structure. Severe acne must be approached radically from the inside; just a skin peel won't do. A tca peel gives you the fastest results in the least amount of time.
However, when Isotretinoin has done its job, a light chemical face peel can do the final touch. Be careful, though. Skin becomes very sensitive after such medication and only light chemical peels are recommended as further treatment.
The cost of a
cost of chemical peel can easily cost thousands of dollars when going to a skin doctor. However, if you do it
facial peel home you can get equivalent results for about $10 per treatment. An
acid peel with TCA gives significant results after just 1 peel.

Soft Hands Through Winter - 4 Solutions
By
Pamela SWith cold weather often comes dry hands; so dry that many people experience bleeding and discomfort. Even mild dryness is unpleasant. Ignoring the problem won't make it go away - at least not easily. By giving your hands some TLC, you will improve your skin's appearance and your own happiness. Aim to treat your skin right by following these tips for taking care of your hands during winter - and beyond.
1.) Exfoliate regularly. Pick a body scrub or special hand scrub and use it weekly on your hands. Be sure to take your time rubbing in the treatment and wash thoroughly with lukewarm water.
2.) Use moisturizing hand soap. Hand washing is as important in winter as it is in summer. Unfortunately, when the humidity is already low and your hands are already dry, washing your hands can be damaging. Be sure to use moisturizing hand soap each time you wash. Keep a portable, smell-good moisturizing soap in your purse so that you can moisturize when you wash wherever you are. The smell will be good for your frame of mind too.
3.) Apply a medicated lotion. Lotions are not all created equal. Some are thin, some are greasy and some are great. Pick one specially designed for hands and apply it regularly. Keep it in your purse.
4.) Skip the scalding water. Using hot water when washing your hands can make your hands drier. Keep the temperature of the water you wash your hands with lukewarm. If you soak in a hot bath, add some bath oils to soften up the water.

The Secret to Fresh Looking Skin
By
Cynthia RowlandNo matter the time of year, going out for the evening whether for dinner, drinks, dancing or just a movie, fresh looking skin is desirable.
Even if you have worked all day at home or the office, when it comes time to present yourself at night, you want to look fresh, vibrant and well rested.
Men have it easy - they can hop in the shower, shave, splash on a toner, finish with a moisturizer and voila - they are set for the evening. Women on the other hand require poofing and other subtle niceties that pamper their bodies and their faces.
Long, luxurious baths, loofas, and rich, hydrating potions cosset and coddle not only our bodies but our psyches as well. Going out for the evening is special and if we want glowing, radiant skin we must pay attention to our shoulders, arms, hands, décolletage as well as our faces.
The secret to better looking skin begins with daily routine maintenance that excludes harmful chemicals when we wash our hair and our bodies. Remember, your skin is the largest organ of your body and protecting it from excessive chemicals keeps you healthier longer.
Sesame oil is a wonderful substitute for chemically laden body moisturizers. Use organic oil from either your grocery or vitamin store (keep it only in glass) and apply it ten minutes before showering. It deeply penetrates the skin and what's most interesting about using this oil is that soap is not required. The yogis believe sesame oil possesses great healing power.
We definitely want to put our best face forward when we desire dazzling skin.
But what if your face looks gray, worn and tired? What if your eyelids are droopy and your eyes no longer sparkle? How can you perk up your cheeks without using tons of blush and ensure that your face glows with youthful radiance?
Making a last minute stop at the drug store to buy a new mascara or foundation hoping that these items will freshen your look will most likely leave you disappointed.
Brighter, younger looking facial skin is possible. Dullness is usually a result of an accumulation of old, dead skin cells - maybe decades worth so thick not even udder cream could keep your face moist.
Dermaplaning is an excellent way to remove dead cells that gray our skin; this procedure is performed by a professional such as an aesthetician or registered nurse. With a scalpel positioned at an angle to the skin, the back and forth motion certainly removes layers of dead, environmentally damaged skin cells. For most, this procedure is a luxury.
Daily at home care is vitally important if you want your facial skin to look healthy and bright. You can begin right now by adjusting your eating habits so that you consume a lot less sugar, more vegetables and fruit, hydrating your body daily with filtered water, using less alcohol and salt, regular exfoliation and exercising your face.
Facial exercise can lift sagging facial muscles. Exercise creates a radiance that is deeper than skin care and makeup. When you exercise your face, you will see and feel the difference immediately as oxygenated blood is forced through the tissues. You can actually feel the muscles respond to the lifting movements.
This all natural cosmetic enhancement has many benefits over surgery and injections; in fact, facial exercise is so reliable it makes plastic surgery seem barbaric.
Think about it - does cutting healthy tissue and then piecing it back together seem odd?
There is more than a healthy amount of trust required to allow someone to use sharp instruments to surgically alter your face. Your long term health could be adversely affected if there are unforeseen complications from excessive vomiting, over-use of prescription drugs, an undetected medical condition and more.
Even the finest surgeon cannot predict the outcome of your surgery or give you a money back guarantee if you are dissatisfied with the results. If you hate surprises, plastic surgery is not for you.
A word regarding serums that plump and paralyze; if you believe these expensive injections will stop your aging face, think again. Paralyzed and artificially filled faces continue to age. Do you really intend to fill your face and your body with unproven substances for the rest of your days? Your body may rebel resulting in sickness or even death.
Stick with facial exercise instead. You can easily develop the look of a natural facelift - one that does not require cutting, injections, sutures or recovery. The radiance you create will greatly become you as your confidence soars and your youthful face returns.
Fresh glowing skin isn't just for evenings now that you know the secret.

Wintertime Skin Care - Soothing Dry Winter Skin
By
Hilary BasileLow humidity in the wintertime causes everyone's skin to become dry and itchy. Scratching adds to the fire by removing the skin's protective oils and other compounds. The constant scratching then triggers the release of histamines that cause redness and swelling.
Following are tips for soothing dry winter skin:
Keep it cool. Overheated rooms bring blood to the skin's surface in a process called vasodilation, making skin warmer and drier. Lower your thermostat to around 68-degrees. If your home is dry, consider using a cool mist humidifier.
Avoid irritating clothing. Steer clear of scratchy fabrics, such as wool, that can irritate your skin. Cotton works best. Also avoid tight clothing that could cause chaffing and further irritation.
Ease up on alcohol and caffeine. Alcohol and caffeinated beverages are vasodilators.
Take warm baths or showers. Short, tepid baths or showers are better for your skin than hot baths or showers. Use a gentle, soap-free cleanser to avoid dry skin.
Use a moisturizer. Pat your skin dry and use a good moisturizer after bathing. Use a heavier ointment rather than a light cream. For extremely dry skin, use a moisturizer with glycerin or other oils. For dry, flaky skin, try a moisturizer containing lactic acid.
Following are skin conditions that also lead to dry, flaky skin:
Psoriasis. Psoriasis is an autoimmune disorder that causes raised red patches that itch, crack, or bleed. Sunlight can help reduce psoriatic symptoms. In the winter, most people get less sun, so the psoriasis flares up.
Eczema. Eczema is a common skin condition characterized by red, swollen, dry and itchy skin. See your doctor if you have a family history of allergies or asthma since this will make you more susceptible to eczema.
Seborrheic dermatitis. This skin condition causes flakiness on the face or dandruff on the scalp.
Good preventative habits and lots of moisturizer can help skin stay comfortable during the winter. If you have a skin condition, you may need prescription medications or other treatments to stop the itching.

3 Tips to Help You Choose the Best Skin Care Products
By
Danielle SimsThere are many skin care products offered in both the department store and the drugstore. They all promise to do one thing. Make you look better. Whether it's to look younger or more attractive, we are faced with may options. So how do you chose the best product for you? How do you know what will work for you?
There are 3 tips that can help you make a choice on what type of product you should use for your skin.
1) make sure the product has the basics covered. The ingredients used in a skin care product can be the deciding factor as to whether the product is beneficial or not. There are certain properties the ingredients in your skin care product should have in order to benefit your skin. These ingredients should protect the skin, feed (or nourish) the skin, moisturize the skin, heal the skin, and they should NOT be harmful to your skin.
A great place for checking out the ingredients in your skin care product is by going to cosmeticdatabase.com. This site contains tons of information on nearly every ingredient used in your skin care products. You definitely want to look up the ingredients that are hard to pronounce or even look like another language. Its been my experience that these are usually the ones that can potentially harm your skin or cause it to be irritating.
2) Your skin problems. The skin problems you are trying to solve can make a difference in the skin care product you use. If you are trying to stop the clock, then you would look for anti-aging skin care. Anti-aging skin care products should have some sort of antioxidant ingredients, anti-wrinkle ingredients, and moisturizing ingredients.
If you are trying to clear up an acne, then you would want to use a product that has astringent ingredients, skin healing ingredients, non-oily ingredients and moisturizing ingredients.
3) Make sure the skin care company is committed to high quality. How do I do that, you ask? Since the internet, virtually every company has a website. If a skin care company does not have a website or if they have a website but doesn't have any information on quality that is readily available to their customer, then you probably don't want to use their product.
A lot of company use quality statements as a part of their marketing statements, but don't rely on that. Seek out the detailed information on their website or call them to get it mailed to you. A reputable company who cares about their customers has nothing to hide.
These tips can assist you in making a choice about the skin care products you use. Skin care is an important part of our lives. It allows us to look our best as well as take care of the health of our skin. Doing your homework can ensure you are using a skin care product that is right for you.

Hormone Balancing Skin Treatment
By
Nombini Kutta-mathyeThe hormone balancing skin treatment is what every woman needs to control and even prevent skin damage. A lot of creams in the market promise to do wonders in hormone management, anti-aging and beautiful flawless skin. The truth is that beautiful glowing skin is a sign of inner health.
The hormone imbalanced skin shows in the ugliest ways. Some of the hormonal imbalance factors are skin pigmentation or discoloration; acne; age spots; eczema; break-outs; dehydrated and itchy dry skin. This happens a lot in teen ages, during menopause and during and after the pregnancy.
Natural Skin Care Program
Most people believe that the expensive and highly advertised creams will somehow get rid of the problems in their appearances. Maybe these products might reduce the signs of the problem but never get rid of it. The cure should be for the cause not the effect. The following are the list of treatment solutions for beauty and hormones:
1) Diet : Get the right diet for your hormones. We have a hormone balancing diet. True cure is done internally.
2) Water Intake : If your skin is dehydrated, drink your 8 a day. Drinking hydrates and softens your skin.
3) More Water : Whenever you do your deep cleanse routine (which you should do at least once
a week at home) steam your face and neck if you can't steam your whole body. Steaming also cleans your skin and pores whilst it softens it.
4) Facial : A thorough facial every month will go a long way to beautify you. It is nice to have a professional work on your body but that's not necessary. All you need is yourself off course; your sink; your clean towel; cleanser; exfoliator; mask; toner; moisturizer and sunscreen.
5) Mild Cosmetics : Some of the most advertised products are too harsh for your damaged and hormone imbalance skin. Get the mildest products you can get. This is worse when your skin is itchy and dry.
6) Fizzy Drinks : Avoid fizzy drinks at all costs. They dehydrate you even more.
7) Smoking : Smoke damages your skins. I wont say more.
8) Caffeine : Reduce your caffeine intake, if you can't stop it at all.
9) Stress : Deal with stress inducing aspects of your life. Get enough exercise, meditate, work on your relationships, etc. Just deal with your issues. There is nothing as bad as stress on your skin.
10) Sun Damage : Avoid the harsh mid day sun. Sun damage leads to fast ageing. Wear a good sunscreen with at least SPF15. Your sunscreen must be specifically for your face if applied in the face. The body sunscreens are too harsh for your face.
Follow this plan for 6 months and watch the improvement in your hormone imbalance and your skin.

What Is A Natural Skincare Product?
By
Elizabeth BoardmanNatural skin care products are skin care products with ingredients that are sourced naturally and do not contain harmful chemicals. These ingredients might be obtained through plants, or anything that is naturally formed and does not incorporate the use of chemicals. These products keep skin smooth, radiant, and toned - similar to other skin care products - but with ingredients that are obtained naturally. The effects of these ingredients are passed from word of mouth and scientific studies prove such benefits.
Most skin care products are made with synthetically produced chemicals that produces undesired side effects. An ideal natural skin care product is a product that has ingredients that are 100% natural and does not even contain chemical preservatives - although may not always be achievable. Popular ingredients for these natural products include sea salts, concentrated plant and flower extracts (essential oils), aloe vera, herbs, and are often times combined to achieve certain effects..
Sea salts, including dead sea salts are one of the main ingredients on some popular natural skin care products. These are popularly used in making aromatherapy bath salts and, more often than not, are combined with different essential oils to produce certain effects. Scientific tests have shown that the minerals in these salts are absorbed through the skin and to the bloodstream when used in soaking. Scientific studies were also done in essential oils - an example would be chamomile that has shown healing and anti-inflammatory effects.
The popularity of such ingredients also made it spread out to different skin care products. A great example would again be natural sea salts. Aside from being used as an additive to baths, these salts have also been used as main ingredients for cosmetics. See below for more information on natural skincare products for bathing and the many benefits of natural bath salts.

What You Must Know to Protect Yourself Against Sunscreen
By
Julie FenoglioWell, it is ski season again and many of us will be getting out our skis and hitting some of our best loved slopes: wrapped up in winter layers to stay warm and keep the cold at bay. Just because it's cold out there, don't be lead astray in thinking you don't need protection from the sun. You should always use a sunscreen when you are on the slopes, but did you know that they can also damage the skin and our general health? This is why we need a skin care treatment that protects us against sunscreens.
As many as five different chemicals that have been proven to stimulate cancer tumor growth and the spread of cancer cells are found in most sunscreens - precisely the thing we're trying to prevent by using it. There are experts that would argue sunscreens are actually more dangerous than being in the sun.
To date no one has completed any long term studies that can either dismiss or substantiate any dangers that sunscreens pose. Until the issue is resolved, it's probably best to continue using sunscreens, but we also need to reduce the damage they can cause.
Since we now need protection from sunscreens, thousands of doctors are recommending a shielding lotion - a type of skin care treatment designed to keep chemicals out of our skin.
How can we reduce some of the chemicals that can be absorbed into our skin from sunscreen?
First, apply a layer of shielding lotion under your sunscreen. Second, go to your health food store and find sunscreens that contain fewer toxic ingredients. You may not be able to find something that's effective and totally harmless, but at least you can get something that won't be as bad as what you've probably been using.
Shielding lotions were initially developed as a skin care treatment for chemists who were exposed to severely toxic and damaging chemicals that are much more dangerous and irritating than those you'll find in a sunscreen. If shielding lotion can protect the skin against acids, it can protect your skin from almost anything.
Health conscious people are aware of the dangers of chemicals, and try to do what they can to protect themselves including using natural skin care treatment products. If you enjoy being out in the sun - whether it's skiing on your favorite slopes or basking on the beach in the hot summer sun - sunscreens are probably one source of dangerous chemicals you haven't been able to avoid and a shielding lotion may be the answer you're looking for.
So have a great time on the slopes and make sure you are protected from the sun and chemicals with a less toxic sunscreen from the health food store and a shielding lotion applied underneath. This will give you peace of mind that your skin will be protected against sun damage and chemicals and will help you enjoy yourself all the more.

Common Myths About Skin Care
By
Kiya SamaThere are many misunderstandings about what is good for the skin. Our preoccupation with the signs of skin aging can lead to some odd notions. Here are some of the common myths about skin:
MYTH: Dry skin causes wrinkles.
FACT: Whether skin is dry or oily has no influence on wrinkles. Wrinkles are caused by the breakdown of protein fibers in the substructure of the skin, as a result of aging or sun exposure.
MYTH: Sunscreen is only for days at the beach.
FACT: A daily application of SPF 15 sunscreen is the second best antiwrinkle treatment available. The best is staying out of the sun, particularly between 10:00AM and 2:00PM. Using sunscreen product is sufficient. Women who apply an SPF15 moisturizer and a foundation with sunscreen are getting no additional benefit and may be inviting skin irritation.
MYTH: Steaming your face opens the pores and allows for a better shave.
FACT: Steaming the face actually closes the pores by plumping up the skin around the pores. It's best to shave after washing the face in warm water and after shaving cream has further softened the skin on the face or legs.
MYTH: A rigorous daily scrub is good for the face.
FACT: As part of its biological cycle, the skin is continually sloughing off dead cells to make way for new cells in the epidermis. Exfoliating products or "cell-renewal agents" are good in moderation to enhance this natural process, but once a week is normally sufficient. Scrub products should never be used on blemished or irritated skin.
MYTH: Flaking is always a sign of dry skin.
FACT: Too much moisturizing can actually inflame the oil glands and create irritation and flaking.
MYTH: Facial exercises and facial massages can prevent wrinkles by toning the muscles.
FACT: Sagging skin and wrinkles due to a loss of support in the substratum of the skin - not because facial muscles are relaxed or have a lack of tone.

The Wisdom Of Natural Organic Skin Care
By
Eve StahlEach evening when you use your regular facial product, you may be applying toxins to your skin that actually age you much faster than normal. The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health reported that nearly 900 toxic chemicals are used in cosmetic products. According to a June 2000 Cancer Coalition press release "Cancer and health risk experts recently concluded reviews that indicate mainstream cosmetics pose the highest cancer risk exposures to the general public, even higher than smoking." Whatever we put on our skin enters the body through our pores, then travels through the entire body via the circulatory system. Therefore it is especially important to scrutinize ingredients when selecting body care products just as we do when choosing our food.
While many companies claim their products are "all natural" and of the "finest quality," a close look at the ingredients reveals they contain toxic synthetic preservatives, 'suspected' carcinogens, drying alcohols, and perhaps synthetic fragrances and dyes. All of which potentially contribute to allergies, headaches, rashes, asthma, hormonal imbalances, cancer, reproductive complications and a myriad other physical and emotional concerns.
Plants are living substances. They contain a vital life energy. It is what differentiates living matter from synthetically derived matter. Our body recognizes plants as nutrition. We can safely eat most of them, use them in body care products and diffuse their oils for their therapeutic benefits. By using natural ingredients you will benefit your health. On the contrary, synthetic ingredients are "man made" chemicals devoid of life. The body recognizes that they are different from nature's plants and one's own chemistry. The immune system registers this as foreign, possibly toxic matter and may respond with an allergic reaction.
Everything we ingest orally, absorb through our skin, or breathe into our lungs, the body will either metabolize in support of building healthy cells or attempt to eliminate as non-food. What the body does not perceive as nutrition it must eliminate. What is not eliminated efficiently may cause disease. "...when toxins are being assimilated or created in the body faster than they can be gotten rid of...the toxic accumulations in the body create the preconditions for disease."
When synthetic ingredients are ingested, the body spends a great deal of its vital energy to eliminate them from the body. This can be very stressful to the immune system and depletes our vital energy. Many of the ingredients in natural skin care products are the same wholesome foods included in a holistic health plan e.g. vegetable oils, pure water, honey, oats, herbs, seaweed. The best way to read a label on a skin care product is to read each ingredient as if it were something you might eat or cook with. The following are a few key ingredients to look for on skin care labels:
1- Natural vegetable oils have many beneficial properties for the skin.
2- Purified water is a major contributor to the moisturizing process.
3- Botanicals should comprise the therapeutic value of the product.
There are numerous botanicals that have been proven throughout the ages to be beneficial for the skin e.g. chamomile, comfrey, lavender, frankincense, rose, myrrh seaweeds and many more. Since these are used in concentrated forms it is particularly important that they are derived from organically grown plants.
The essential oils of plants have been known throughout the ages as the most potent beautifying agents for the skin. They have a unique lipid structure that allows them to penetrate cell membranes and transport oxygen and nutrients to each cell of the body.
Each essential oil has specific properties. Some oils are particularly hydrating while others have properties that tone the skin, seeming to work magic with wrinkles. Still others have antimicrobial and astringent properties that address the bacteria associated with acne. They all deliver nutrients and oxygen that improve circulation to give the skin a healthy glow. The oils can be carefully chosen for their nourishing properties and ability to balance chemistry in a manner that supports the required skin care. In her book, The Secret of Life and Youth, Mme Maury wrote "Applied to the skin these essences regulate the activity to the capillaries and restore vitality to the tissues. We might almost say that they make the flesh more succulent."
It is critical that the essential oils used are a pure steam distillation of organically grown plants. Commercial products are often made with poorly distilled or solvent extracted oils. Perfume oils should be avoided. They are not essential oils and are a frequent cause of toxic reactions.
When I use the purest ingredients in nature in my products, I feel that I am supporting the health of our skin, our general health and the health of the planet.
