Warn Your Guy About Skin Care For Men
By Dee Smith

It takes most guys a long time to admit they're interested in skin care for men. I know my brother wouldn't hear of it until he turned 40. I guess it was so traumatic that he began examining everything in his life, including his appearance.

Okay, I admit to having made a few comments here and there about the wrinkles on his forehead. After all, they were getting more and more pronounced. And I did offer him the cream I use o my face so he could at least try it. He told me to get it away from him and made such an awful face I saw wrinkles I'd never noticed before.

It's sort of embarrassing, but often when we're together people think I'm the baby sister when, I'm far from it. I tell him it's because I take care of myself but he doesn't want to hear it. When I offer to go shopping with him to find some skin care for men he's absolutely horrified.

One night, though, I saw him looking through a magazine and when I peered over his shoulder I saw an ad for cosmetics. I had a feeling the moment was getting near. He was getting ready to take the plunge and go looking for skin care for men.

This really scared me. Being the skin freak that I am, I know a lot about bad ingredients that even the biggest, fanciest names in cosmetics put into their products. Dangerous stuff that can give you cancer.

I decided to stay up and type a list of things for him to avoid, just in case he got up the nerve to go shopping alone. I wanted him armed with knowledge. Let's face it, when a sweet young guy finally gets up the nerve to ask a store clerk about skin products for men he's in a vulnerable position.

He'd probably buy just about anything to get out of the store before someone saw him. If he at least had a piece of paper with names of things to look for on a jar I'd feel a heck of a lot better.

So I typed him a casual little note giving him four or five ingredients to run from, just in case he happened to bump into some skin care for men in his travels.

Dioxane. Alcohol. Mineral Oil. Parabens. Fragrances. If he just listened to me on this he'd be way ahead of the game. I didn't want to preach or overwhelm him with details. I'd give him the ugly facts about these ingredients in due time.

Next time I'd tell him about good ingredients to look for. Maybe he'll even invite me along. For now I would be thrilled just to know he actually did finally get himself some harmless skin care for men. And that he didn't buy anything with poison in it. Because that's what's out there.

I can't wait to teach him all I've learned and let him discover the good stuff himself when he's armed and ready. I just hope he'll start doing something about his aging little self soon.
