Is Healthy Skin Care a Protection Against Skin Cancer
By Fiona Stolze

Are you one of those people who just loves to go off to some sunny exotic destination on holiday and lie basking in the sun for 2 weeks? If so, you might well be aware that over-exposure to the sun's harmful UV rays can put you at risk of getting cancer. This article is going to take a look at what you can effectively do to maintain a healthy skin care routine so that you can cut down the risk of getting any disease.

You'll no doubt have heard about the hole in the ozone layer in the Antarctic. This is what makes us more prone to the harmful effects of the sun's UV rays. Statistics show that more and more people are developing skin cancer of various forms and that figures have actually reached an all-time high. It is claimed that there could be a link between sunburn sustained as a child and present-day development of melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer which grows extremely fast. So healthy skin care in the form of awareness of sun exposure is vital.

UV rays can be short wave, medium wave or long wave and have different effects on your skin. UVB rays penetrate the epidermis, the top layer of your skin, and alter the way the cells behave, causing cancer to grow. They are also instrumental in breaking down 2 proteins called collagen and elastin which give healthy skin its bounce and structure. UVA rays are harmful all day long, not just during the midday hours like the UVB rays.

If you want healthy skin, you're really going to have to find ways of spending less time in the sun or make sure you protect your skin adequately. Research has found that the sun is responsible for lots of other things, too, such as suppressing your immune system, causing premature aging and reducing your skin's natural defenses. So maintaining a healthy skin care program is key in staying vibrant and healthy and reducing the risk of cancer.

But one of the simplest methods for reducing this risk is to stay out of the hot sun between 10am and 3pm. If you are going to lie in the sun, make sure you protect yourself with an adequate sun lotion and wear protective clothing. Ideally you would avoid hot sun on your sensitive skin altogether. This is because the UV rays cause something called super-oxidants to accumulate in your skin's cells. These are highly toxic and cause your skin's cell to age more. This is where you need antioxidants to combat their effect.

And forget all about lying on sun beds as an alternative because they also cause premature aging of your skin.

On a daily basis it is so important to give priority to healthy skin care through simple measures such as proper hydration by drinking 6 - 8 glasses of water a day. Keeping your skin well moisturized with healing natural oils can also regulate the sebum levels in your skin so it is not too dry or greasy. Taking powerful antioxidants such as vitamin E keeps those free radicals from causing damage and you can also use functional keratin to stimulate your skin to produce adequate levels of collagen and elastin. These measures reduce the wrinkles you will have and can keep your skin smooth and supple.

And remember that excessive sunbathing is not part of a healthy skin care program. If you would like to find out about some skin care products with natural ingredients including antioxidants, sebum regulators, moisturizers and collagen and elastin stimulators, for a healthy, vibrant skin, why not have a look at my website for some detailed information.
