Cosmetics, use with care

A lot of teens spend a great deal of their time using makeup. But teens should think twice before choosing a makeup product. It would be a good thing if all the products you need and use are natural and organic. If a product is chemical based it can cause blemishes or pimples all over your face.

Squeezing is not the solution

If you are suffering from acne or know that you can easily get acne, stay far away from scrubbing products. Scrubbing your skin while you suffer from acne will only make matters worse. It could even damage the skin in such a way that it could leave scars for a long time if not for live. You should be looking at deep-pore cleansing products and clean your skin while gently applying it to your skin.

If possible use sunscreen cream or lotion

Teens spend a lot of their time outdoors so it would be only normal to apply a sunscreen lotion or cream to keep the skin from getting damaged by sunlight or environmental pollutants like smoke. The thing is that most teens don't think about it until they go to the beach or the swimming pool. Teens who suffer from acne and who are taking medications should be extra careful because one of the side effects is that these medications make you more vulnerable to sunburn. People who get eczema usually have a family history of allergies or asthma. Though the cause of eczema is still unknown, there are indications that it might be linked to an over-reactive immune system. It is possible that when the body comes into contact with allergens in the air or on the skin, the immune system overreacts to these allergens causing inflammation and irritation of the skin.

Sometimes the skin is just reacting to an irritant and allergies are not involved. You may be able to help your particular type of eczema simply by avoiding sodium hydroxide, propylene glycol and sodium lauryl sulfate found in many soaps, toothpastes, shampoos, etc. These can worsen or cause eczema for a lot of people.

Natural products can help, but you should still read the labels as they sometimes have these chemicals as well. You might also try stopping the use of perfumes, deodorants and cosmetics that are not natural. There are chemicals in these that also might trigger a reaction.

Some different types of eczema are:

Atopic dermatitis -- This kind usually begins in infancy and is due to allergies. It is typically found in families with a history of asthma or hay fever. This kind is most likely due to a malfunction in the body's immune system. Stress can worsen atopic dermatitis, but it is not the cause.

Contact dermatitis -- Caused by direct contact with an irritant or allergen. The irritants can include bath soap, laundry soap, household cleaning products and detergents. The allergens can include weeds, jewelry, perfume, cosmetics, neomycin (an ingredient in antibiotic creams), etc.

Seborrheic dermatitis -- This is a red rash with a yellowish oily scale. It is common in people with oily skin or hair and may come and go depending on time of the year, physical stress or neurological conditions such as Parkinson's disease. It is called cradle cap when found on babies.

Stasis dermatitis -- This kind is usually found on the lower leg as a result of fluid accumulation in the tissues just beneath the skin. The excess fluid inhibits the blood's ability to nourish the skin and puts pressure on the skin from beneath.

Neurodermatitis -- This is a contact dermatitis or eczema that occurs in areas where your clothing rubs or itches the skin. It is made worse as you rub or scratch the area.

Perioral dermatitis -- This type is also known as rosacea, adult acne or seborrheic dermatitis. It involves the skin about the nose and mouth. The exact cause is not known, but it is likely that cosmetics, face creams, etc. may be the culprit.

Natural eczema and dermatitis remedies:

Vitamin B12 -- People with eczema tend to have a vitamin B12 deficiency.

Extra Virgin Organic Coconut Oil -- You can apply it right on your skin. In just a couple of minutes it is completely absorbed. Adding coconut oil to your diet is also beneficial. Not only will it give you healthier skin, it may also help you lose weight.

Neem -- The beneficial effects neem has on the skin makes it an excellent treatment. It moisturizes and protects the skin and heals the lesions, scaling and irritation. In India, leaves from the neem tree are traditionally used to treat eczema and a range of other inflammatory skin conditions. It can be in a cream to put directly on your skin or it can be taken internally.

Apple Cider Vinegar -- Put one to two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water and take three times a day. You can add raw honey as a sweetener. You can also apply it directly on the skin by mixing 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar into half a cup of water. Put the mixture into a spray bottle and spray it directly on your skin.

You may also find that boosting your immune system is beneficial. Even though eczema is caused by an overreaction of the immune system, by boosting your immune system, you help it work more effectively. Another thing you might look into is food allergies. It is possible that food allergies are causing the immune system to overreact.

It is better to use warm water in bath tub, not hot water.

4) Excessive use of Makeup products:

Both makeup products and makeup removals contain ingredients which are harsh to skin. When a limited use of such products does not do any bad, excessive use over a long period is not at all good for health of your skin. Eye area is very much sensitive to excessive use of makeup. Puffiness around eyes and wrinkles in the eye area are the results of makeup overdoing.

Clear Skin - It Takes Good Genes and Some Outside Help

Growing up, I always thought my grandmother had soft and beautiful skin. Well, I was right. Even well into her seventies, Grandma Susie still has amazingly soft and nearly wrinkle-free skin.The other day, I asked about her skin care regimen and how she kept looking so young. Her answer? She washes her face three times a day with warm water and a clean wash cloth. No soap, no chemicals at all!

But as we all know, most people are not as lucky as Grandma Susie when it comes to skin care. For a lot of us, it takes work and help to simply get clear skin. I will not even bring up what it takes to get soft and smooth skin or to keep back the signs of age.

For me, I am well into my thirties now with pretty decent skin (thanks to Grandma Susie and her genes). Although, every once in a while, acne rears its ugly "black-head" usually when I am stressed or eating poorly. But most of my acne problems start when I work out heavily. It seems the more I sweat, the more I break out.

I tend to break out more where my hairline meets my forehead, around my nose and under my chin. My break outs do not last long, but they are noticeable especially to me. It is really tough to be taken seriously as an adult when a teenage problem creeps up on my forehead. That is why I really try to take care of my face when I am working out, stressing or indulging in that greasy Double-Double from IN-N-OUT! And while soap and astringents were my cure of choice in my twenties, At this age (37) I look for options that are not so harsh on my skin, but will show positive results.

Here is how it works over the two week period for Normal-to-Oily Skin

Step 1: Cleanse with Daily Care Foaming Cleanser

You will start by wetting your face with warm water, and squeezing out a dime-sized amount of Daily Care Foaming Cleanser into the palm of your hand. For 20 to 30 seconds, you will lather and gently your entire face before rinsing and pat drying your face. Before starting step 2, you will need to wait about 15 minutes before

Step 2: Pore Therapy

Following Step 1, grab a cotton ball or pad, moisten with the Pore Therapy and apply over your face. Be careful to avoid your eyes, nose and mouth.Once your done, let it dry ... don't rinse off. Make sure your entire face is dry before moving to step 3.

About Aloe Vera And Products Containing Aloe Vera

Although aloe vera looks like a cactus, it actually is a succulent and a member of the Liliacae family (like the onion, garlic, asparagus, lily and the tulip). Unsurprisingly one of aloe vera's nick names is 'lily of the desert' because that is where it grows naturally. To survive long periods of droughts these xeroids plants have the ability to retain and preserve large quantities of water.
Being able to survive such a harsh environment has interesting implications for you. When for instance an aloe leaf gets damaged it instantaneously repairs this damage thereby avoiding loss of water. Failure to quickly repair the injury site would result in evaporation of its precious reservoir and might jeopardise the plant's health or survival. Such tissue repair and other powerful aloe vera properties are transferred to you when you ingest Aloeride®.

There are more than 350 varieties of aloe vera yet only 4 contain significant healing properties, the most nutrient dense of these is aloe vera barbadensis miller, the plant used to make Aloeride®. Prices surge to a 10-year high, these drought also affected Australia's aloe vera production where one company alone converted some 7,000 tonnes of aloe vera leaf into around three million litres of gel each year. An aloe vera plant needs 150mL water a month as otherwise it dies. Plants that do survive the drought generate more aloin and emodin, resulting in their gel having an even more bitter taste and stronger odour than usual. It is what dehydrated aloe does for self-preservation because emodin and aloin have anti-inflammatory, bactericidal, virucidal, fungicidal and anti-cancer effect. These hydroxyanthraquinone compounds become life savers as the dehydrated plant fights cell disorganisation and bacteria, viruses or fungi that prey on it.

However, what is good for a distressed aloe vera plant isn't necessarily good for you. In the lower gastrointestinal tract barbaloin molecules are hydrolysed to create aloe emodin which acts as a laxative by increasing water retention and mucus secretion in the large intestine. Aloe vera crop surviving droughts may come with a sting in its tail that causes mayhem in sensitive digestive tracts.

Caring For Your Feet

The overall health of the body is dependent on proper care and concern for each and every part of your body. Often we neglect our feet though in fact it handles the strain and weight of the entire body. Since the skin on the feet is highly delicate and vulnerable, neglect can lead to dryness, cracks, formation of bunions and in some cases soreness and pain.

You have to be meticulous in caring for your feet, so that they remain healthy and beautiful for as long as possible.

Foot care tips and routine

Tips to keep your feet beautiful and young:

1. Removing the hard skin from your feet. To remove the dead foot skin:
a. Soak the feet in a bowl of warm water in order to soften the dirt and the dead skin and to make them easily removableb. Then use a pumice stone or a foot file, rubbing your skin gently c. Rinse off the flaky residued. Alternatively, you can apply sufficient cream on the area to remove the dead skin

2. Relieving aches and swelling. Once the dead skin has been removed, soak your feet for about 10 min in a bowl of warm water and add some mineral salts along with a few drops of lavender essential oils

3. Drying your feet well. When you dry your feet make sure to not miss out wiping between your toes.

4. Trim toenails and shape them with an emery board.

5. Massaging the feet. Use rich foot skin cream to massage your feet. For this you must cup hands on either side of the foot, and the thumbs pressing the upper part of the foot while they push outwards. The extra cream must be removed from the nails and cotton wool tufts be placed in between your toes

6. Massaging the ankle. To relieve stiffness that occurs in ankles, gently massage the anklebone in a circular motion

Tips to keep your feet healthy

Inducing circulation

In order to keep your feet healthy it is important to increase the blood circulation through them by:

a. Putting your feet up when you are sitting or lying down b. Stretching, especially rewarding for those who have to sit continuously for long durationsc. Going for a walkd. Massaging the feet gently using your hands or a foot rollere. Giving the feet a warm bath

Using the right footwear

The very purpose of footwear is to protect the feet from damage; however, a bad choice in footwear can in itself be damaging for your feet. Make sure to keep these tips in mind while choosing and using footwear:

1. Wear footwear that
a. Supports and fits the foot properlyb. Is made of natural materials that are a soft and flexible, helping your feet breathec. That is shaped like your foot and feels comfortable when you walk in themd. Have thick soles that cushion the feet while walkinge. Which offers enough space for your longest toe at the end of each shoe when you are standing upf. Lets the ball of your foot to fit comfortably into the widest part of the shoe g. Does not ride up and down on your heel when you walk.

2. Buy shoes in the evening when your feet are the largest and buy a size that fits the larger of your two feet.

3. Vary shoe types and shoe heels everyday. It is best to choose low heels over high heels though.

4. Use cotton or wool socks and change them at least once a day.

Skin Care Myths

There are many skin care myths floating around. Some seem quite logical, others a bit less. Since things are not always as they appear to be, I have done a little homework in an effort to bring 3 of these myths to reality. I hope you will come away with at least an understanding of why they are not factual. To be truthful, there are many more than 3 but I have found these to be the most widely thought.

Salespeople are experts: More often than not, when buying cosmetics or skin care products, we rely on the person behind the counter to guide us in our purchase. Though they may be very thoughtful and articulate in their presentation of the product they are recommending, there is a very good chance that they are not experts. Just because a product is recommended does not mean it is right for you. Remember, they are there to sell! This means that the majority of them are merely repeating marketing information they have received from the manufacturer of the product. Do your own research as well.

Expensive skin care products are better: This to me seems to be one of the biggest skin care myths out there today. All you have to do is look around at other products in different retail, or wholesale areas see the fallacy behind that. If you check the ingredients of a higher priced pain reliever in contrast to the store brand, or generic brand you will find that most of the time the ingredients are the same, or at the very least, similar. You will not see a noticeable difference in the basic composition. It is true that there are products that cost more, but work better. It is also true that there are products which work better and cost less. Again, make sure you check to make sure to see if you are purchasing what you need, not what looks or sounds good.

Men have very few skin problems: I am not sure where to go with this! Whoever thinks that has never seen me. Men have many of the same skin problems as women. We do get wrinkles and psoriasis as much, if not more than women. The problem for men is that we do not attach as much significance to those problems and therefore do not treat them properly, as do women. We have one other disadvantage. We have to deal with all the hair on our face which looked so dashing when we were younger.

To be sure, there are many more skin care myths. I chose only 3 because I found them to be the most misunderstood. The first 2 can be taken in context for anything we buy, from the car salesman to the picture of the 46" LCD TV. Shaving Armpits - Is Shaving the Best Method for Hair Removal?

Shaving armpits is just one method used for hair removal. Is it the best method? It depends on your personal preference. I'll discuss a few different options and you can decide which method is best for you. In addition to shaving, hair can be removed by waxing, tweezing, laser hair removal, and hair removal creams. In order to choose which method is best for you, consider the cost, convenience, results, and pain factor of each.

Now that we all know the myth that shaving armpits causing hair to grow back thicker and darker is false, we can review other factors when deciding whether or not to use this method. Shaving is a quick way to remove hair and it is relatively safe as long as you do it correctly. It can be done in the comfort of your own home and is very inexpensive which makes it very convenient compared to other methods. One drawback to shaving armpits is that it is a short term fix. Hair in this area grows back very quickly, so hair removal by shaving requires more frequent upkeep than other methods.

If just hearing the word "tweezing" makes you cringe, you may not even consider removing sensitive underarm hair this way. This method requires plucking the hairs one at a time. It is the least expensive of all hair removal methods; however, it ranks very high on the pain scale.
Tweezing lasts longer than shaving which makes it a hair removal method worth considering.
Waxing armpit hair takes a little more preparation, especially if you have it done at a salon. This method costs more than tweezing and shaving because you are paying for the service. The pain factor rates higher than shaving and relative to tweezing based on your tolerance of pain.
Waxing is another method that removes hair for longer periods of time than shaving and about the same as tweezing.

Laser treatments are probably the most expensive form of hair removal because not only are you paying for the service, you are paying for the use of technical equipment as well. Laser treatments promise permanent hair removal, so you can recoup some of the cost by saving on the supplies and time of methods that are not permanent.

Hair removal creams are another viable option instead of shaving armpits. Creams are very easy to use at home making them very convenient and they are as painless as shaving. They are rated in the middle of the scale as far as length of time before hair grows back compared to the other methods discussed. You can purchase hair removal creams at different prices depending on the brand and quality of the product.

Whether you decide shaving armpits is best or one of the other methods discussed, we can all agree that there are many factors to consider. Determine the comfort level, convenience, cost, and the results you hope to achieve in order to choose the method that best suites you.

Try to take a dive into the Dead Sea and you will find it virtually impossible to sink or dive under water. This unique effect is caused by the fact that the Dead Sea or the "Sea of Salt" as it is sometimes called, has through the centuries accumulated a very dense amount of salt. In fact it is scientifically shown to be the saltiest body of water in the world. This causes the unusual buoyancy factor when you try to float, holding the visitor up as if you had an invisible air mattress underneath you.

Another very unique characteristic of the salt in the Dead Sea is it's unusually high mineral content. While regular sea salt from oceans across the world, usually contains about 90% sodium and the rest as minerals, Dead Sea minerals compose about 70% of Dead Sea salt and the salt is therefore much richer in minerals such as Boron, Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc and others which we will discuss below. Why It's So Important To Use A Natural Moisturizer

The main purpose of any moisturizer is to keep water in our skin. Not just to add more water into our skin, but to actually preserve what's already there. A good moisturizer will also act as a barrier against bacteria and will shield our skin from irritants such as dust, sun and cold or windy weather.

Moisture is lost from the skin due to a process called "trans-epidermal water loss" This simply means water leaves our body through the skin and evaporates. This process goes on 24 hours a day, more during warm weather when we perspire, as part of the natural cooling process.

Although our skin has it's own natural moisturizer called sebum, today's harsh conditions, pollution, bad diets and stressful lifestyles can cause damage to our skin that can't be handled without some outside help. Throw in the increasing ultra violet rays and our skin is fighting a loosing battle!

If there's one thing that's more important than actually using a moisturizer, it's making sure there's plenty of water in our skin to start with. The best moisturizer in the world won't create a soft dewy complexion if we don't drink enough water. Our skin draws moisture from our body and if we're dehydrated our skin will shrink, become dry and chapped and will wrinkle and age faster.

For daytime use, any moisturizer we use has to be easily absorbed into the skin so that it can keep our skin comfortable while providing a suitable base for applying make up or sunscreen.

For aging or dry skin, we can use an anti aging moisturizer at night. This can contain additional nourishing or anti aging ingredients suitable for our particular needs. The skin absorbs nutrients while we're asleep and also revitalizes itself from within ready for the day ahead.

Which moisturizer do we choose when there's so many different ones out there? My golden rule is to use a natural moisturiser, one that's made from pure natural oils from fruits and nuts such as wheatgerm oil or borage seed oil. One that contains no mineral oil, parabens or chemical preservatives.

Natural oils have a greater affinity with our skin and will be absorbed better. Mineral oils sit on the skin's surface and can caused blocked pores that can lead to skin problems. Mineral oils can actually dry our skin further. Not something we want when out skin is already dry!

We don't have to spend a fortune on natural moisturizers. There are many expensive ones available, but an economical moisturizer can do the same job as those costing big dollars.

What's the difference between an organic moisturizer and a natural moisturizer? Not a great deal as far as our skin is concerned, but an organic moisturizer usually has a shorter storage life. It's best to buy a moisturizer that has some type of preservative. There are good natural preservatives, so make sure the product you choose doesn't contain toxic preservatives such as parabens.

Avoid alcohol in any product you choose, it will dry your skin out very quickly. Even if your skin is oily it's best to avoid products containing alcohol as they remove the moisture from the skin as well as the oil.

Using a natural moisturizer each day will keep your skin healthy. Other ingredients such as sunscreen or essential oils can be added to enhance it's performance. The most important thing though is to use it!

Is It Eczema Or Psoriasis?

How to ease the scaling of psoriasis? How to prevent itching of psoriasis? What is a good home remedy for itchy skin? What is the best soap for itchy skin?

The right answers to these questions require making sure you know what is causing your skin irritation, so here are the basic facts about eczema vs. psoriasis.

Medical textbooks refer to eczema as "the itch that rashes" after you scratch it. It's just as correct to refer to psoriasis as "a rash that itches most of the time" whether you scratch it or not.
That's because one of the basic facts about eczema versus infection, psoriasis, and numerous other skin conditions is that eczema rash only appears after you scratch your itch. In the highly unlikely event you never scratched, soaked, heated, rubbed, or even touched your itchy skin, the irritation of eczema would not cause a rash.

On the other hand, in its beginning stages, psoriasis will cause scaling or a rash, but it may or may not be itchy. The redness of eczema is caused by destruction of the skin, whereas the redness of psoriasis is caused by unusual growth of blood vessels.

Eczema symptoms include at least itch, followed by:

Red, irritated rash, followed by White scaly buildup on the skin (hyperkeratosis), followed by Thickening, darkening, and roughing of the skin when it heals (lichenification), followed by Altered skin color, followed by Scratch marks.

On the other hand, the famous Hungary Psoriasis Study confirms that in the majority of cases of psoriasis there is first some kind of injury to the skin, and within the next 7 to 14 days there is:
A bright red rash thickening the skin, with well-defined boundaries, occurring at the same time as or quickly followed by Itching, commonly followed by Formation of a raised silvery scale, sometimes followed by, Tender, painful joints.

When the scale pulls or tears off psoriasis-affected skin, there is usually bleeding, making the skin is susceptible to infection. After its beginning stages, psoriasis can even constitute a medical emergency when there is widespread cracking, fissuring, and infection of the skin.

Eczema is sometimes controlled by eliminating offending foods from the diet. In its beginning stages, psoriasis may be made more manageable by adding omega-3 fatty acids (usually from safe, inexpensive, and natural flaxseed oil or fish oil supplements) to the diet.

Psoriasis research studies show that psoriasis symptoms are also helped by short-term fasting (as little as 18 hours), low-calorie diets, and vegetarian diets. Use of vegetarian diets is helpful because the fatty acids derived from arachidonic acid, found in especially high concentrations in beef egg yolks, and fried foods, counteract the benefits of fatty acids in stopping the production of irritant hormones.

And although psoriasis research studies are preliminary on the relationship of gluten to psoriasis, generally speaking, in beginning stages, psoriasis is more likely to be relieved by eliminating gluten and wheat products, while the irritation caused by eczema is more likely to helped by eliminating dairy from the diet.

Psoriasis usually responds to supplementation with natural or synthetic vitamin C, vitamin E, beta-carotene, and selenium. When it comes to psoriasis, B-12 supplements probably don't have an effect, but vitamin B-12 creams (usually made with avocado oil) usually do. And especially in men aged 18 to 54, alcohol consumption is a risk factor for psoriasis symptoms.

How to ease the scaling of psoriasis? Here the answers aren't quite the same as my list of eczema home remedies. The least expensive and most effective household remedy for psoriasis is turmeric, but use it externally, not internally!

Turmeric pastes (homemade by adding a tablespoon of turmeric to a half-cup of olive oil and dabbing the mixture to affected skin) can relieve itching and irritation, although their effects are not immediate. You can apply turmeric pastes to skin on almost any part of the body affected by psoriasis, external ear, face, elbows, trunk, etc., although you may smell a little like curry powder until you wash it off.

Don't eat your turmeric to control psoriasis, especially if you use Plavix or Coumadin.

How to prevent itching of psoriasis? What is the best soap for itchy skin?

My readers tell me they get good results from any soap containing neem oil, although neem's effects are more noticeable for treating the irritation of eczema than for treating the itch of psoriasis. Also useful for both psoriasis and eczema is a combination of honey, olive oil, and beeswax, applied to the skin after bathing. Published medical research finds that this simple, safe, and inexpensive combination fights both yeast and staph infections.

Dry Skin - #1 Problem with Aging Skin

Although it may not be intentional, everyday we abuse our skin by partaking in daily rituals including showering, bathing, playing in the sunshine, smoking, drinking coffee, or simply enjoying the air conditioned living room. The environment that we live in takes tremendous toll on our skin and slowly it loses its natural ability to moisturize. Skin is our body's first line of defense and protects us from infections, impacts and the environment as a whole but over time this begins to fail.

As we age our skin care needs begin to change and evolve. Dry skin is a wide spread problem however as we age this becomes much more prevalent. Contrary to popular belief the number one issue that immerges is not wrinkles or age spots, it is actually skin dryness. Ironically having healthy moisturized skin actually minimizes the appearance of wrinkles. As we age the layers of skin that we don't see on the surface begin to thin, the oil glands become under productive, and the diminished lipid (fat) layer is no longer able to hold moisture. This all leads to dry, flaky, itchy, and sensitive skin.

Another unavoidable reason for the increase in dry skin is medications. As we age the probability that we will be on a prescribed medication increases, dry skin is the side affect of many. As well many health conditions are associated with skin dryness such Diabetes, high blood pressure, and many thyroid disorders.

To help alleviate dry skin try the following:

1. Try showering or bathing every second day when possible. Hot water strips the body of its natural oils so luke warm water is always recommended. Showers and baths should be limited to 10 minutes. Use cleansers sparingly, use them for your groin and an arm pit area, water is generally sufficient for the rest of your body. Leave your body damp and apply moisturizer to seal in the moisture.

2. Drink at least 8 glasses of water per day, your body must be hydrated to work efficiently. Always increase your liquid consumption when doing physical activity or in environments that sap water from your body. Reduce or avoid alcohol, caffeine, and smoking, these all have a diuretic effect on the body.

3. Add a humidifier to your home or work environment. Air conditioners and central heating systems pull a large amount of moisture from the air, and a humidifier will help remedy this issue. There are many on the market today so finding one that fits your budget and your needs should be relatively straight forward. 4. Above all else moisturize, even if you don't think you need to. Being proactive is always the best solution to any problem. It is recommended that a moisturizer of some kind be applied twice a day, and at bedtime is a must.

Moisturizing on a daily basis should be part of everyone's skin care regime; however as we age it becomes must more imperative. As a population we focus on how our skin looks but it is important to remember that our skin is the body's biggest organ and it has many important health protecting duties. Winning the battle against dry skin not only makes us look and feel fresh but it helps maintain skin integrity which is essential to our health.
