Best Treatment For A Dry And Sensitive Skin Care
By Tracy Ma

If you have taken care of your skin from adolescence, by the time you reach your middle years you should only be dealing with "genetic" dryness. The easiest way to combat this is by avoiding using water or any treatments that might dry the skin out. Make-up is a tremendous help in this respect because a cream or liquid foundation is a moisturized base with color pigment added. If your skin is very dry, you will need an untinted moisturizer beneath.

I have found that the following regime works best for a skin that is dry or sensitive.

Cleanse the skin with a cleansing cream (preferably un-perfumed or only very lightly fragranced). Work it well into the face and neck, then remove it with tissues. Repeat twice if you are wearing make-up; in the morning once is sufficient. Wipe over the face with pads of cotton wool soaked only in tepid water or rosewater. Do not use a toner or freshener as these can dry out the outer layer faster than you would wish. Do not use a scrub, washing gel or face mask.

Great care is the key to looking after this type of skin. The more gently it is handled, with rich, emollient creams and gentle massage, the better it will respond. It will reward you with a good color tone and with softened lines.

Use a conditioning cream regularly, working it well into the skin in circular movements and leaving it to soak in for at least ten minutes before gently blotting away any surplus with a tissue. Do not go to bed with cream on your skin because it will only cause swollen eyes and, over a period of time, make the skin "heavy". Skin is a living thing and needs to be able to function.

The slight amount of oil the skin takes in is absorbed within ten minutes; anything left on the skin is surplus to requirements.

Sensitive skin types are in need of continual protection and a moisturizer is always necessary. Be careful, however, when buying this type of product: many now contain sun filters, which can be irritants to the person with sensitive skin.
