The Best Ways to Improve Your Skin Tone
By
Amy NuttOne of the first things agencies look at when considering a new model is his or her skin. Skin, the largest organ in the human body, is the foundation of beauty. And while skin is the blank canvas for a beautiful face or body, you also want your skin to be beautiful on its own. For some, good genetics lend a helping hand. For others, beautiful skin is something you'll have to work for.
A lot of flaws can mar the skin, especially the thin, delicate skin of the face. These include dryness, flaccidity, pimples, wrinkles, enlarged pores, age spots, and general unevenness. Quite a list, isn't it?
Fortunately, there are many ways to improve the tone and texture of your skin. And while you may never have ideal skin --some skin traits are genetic, after all-- you can always improve on nature. Below you'll find some of the best ways to improve your skin tone.
Hydration
One of the main things that lead to an uneven skin tone is dryness. The recommended two liters of water isn't random, and isn't just something bottled water companies use just to sell their products. Hydrating your skin will help to combat dryness and redness. It can also have an effect on your pores; you may find that, when hydrated, your skin will plump slightly, making enlarged pores less visible.
Exfoliation
Do you ever wonder how Hollywood stars get that glowing, youthful skin tone? Exfoliation. If you want to have smooth, glowing movie-star skin, exfoliation is key. No matter how well you wash your skin, if you do not exfoliate, dead skin cells will build up. When this happens, your skin will appear duller, dryer, older, less pretty. Those nasty dead skin cells will also block your pores, resulting in blackheads, pimples, and stretched, enlarged pores.
So get exfoliating. There are a couple of main ways to exfoliate your skin. One is manual exfoliation. This is when a comparatively rough surface is used to buff dead skin and impurities away. Manual exfoliation can consist of microdermabrasion, exfoliating cloths, brushes, scrubs, etc. Just be sure not to use rough, hard edged brushes or scrubs, and they can irritate your skin, just making your problems worse.
Another even easier way to exfoliate is by chemical exfoliation. Chemical exfoliation is the use of chemicals that strip away dead skin for you. These are usually in the form of fruit acids, acid peels/masks, and alpha or beta hydroxy lotions. These are intended to get right down into the pores, cleaning them from the inside out. While chemical exfoliation is one of the best things you can do for your skin tone (it's great combined with occasional manual exfoliation), it's important to be careful. Start with gentle products, and use them only occasionally at first-- even so, they may cause dryness and peeling. Also, be sure to research any products you buy; many over-the-counter beta or alpha hydroxy exfoliants are not the correct pH to be truly effective.
The truth is, it's impossible for a person over the age of ten to have perfect skin. As you age, hormones and time have their effect on your body and it will begin to show on your skin. There's no preventing it. And there's no need to feel hopeless. Just remember, even those Hollywood stars aren't perfect. Take away the products, the professionally-applied make-up, the lighting, and the airbrushing, and Jennifer Lopez's skin probably looks a lot like yours.
Hydration and Exfoliation are crucial in maintaining great skin. It's also a good idea to use
organic sunscreen when out in the sun.

Dry Skin Solutions - Stop Itching Now
By
Anne HuntIf you are like me, winter months bring with them the promise of a slower pace of life. Evenings are spent reading, cooking, going out to the movies, and other relaxing indoor activities. With winter comes something else as well. Like clockwork, my skin gets dry and itchy. I have generally attributed this midwinter malady to drier air and colder temperatures as well as my personal love of long, hot baths that open pores and deplete moisture content in the skin. Yes, I try to moisturize regularly using the CayceCare™ product Olivae™ Skin Lotion, but sometimes I get a bit lazy on this front and it seems that once the dry skin settles in, it's there to stay until spring.
What Would Cayce Say?
It has been years since I searched the readings on the topic of dry skin so I decided to see if there was wisdom there that our True Health readers would benefit from. It was not at all surprising that there was! The following reading reveals the readings' philosophy about dry skin:
"(Q) What causes a dry, scaly skin? Should this condition be remedied locally as well as generally; if so, how?
"(A) This may be aided by the rubbing with a combination of Rosewater and Olive Oil - equal parts. This is to soothe the skin, but the general applications should be from within." (274-9)
What does Cayce mean when he says "from within"? Another reading elucidates this point.
"(Q) What causes my skin to be so dry?
"(A) The poor circulation." (288-38)
Healthy circulation was certainly a fundamental in the Cayce health philosophy. Harold J. Reilly, pioneer Cayce health practitioner, put circulation first in his famous Cayce C.A.R.E. health guidelines (Circulation, Assimilation, Relaxation, and Elimination). As I thought about poor circulation being a root cause of dry skin, it made sense. If you live in a cold climate in winter as I do, you tend to be more sedentary. Clothes are more binding. Hence, circulation suffers.
Circulation, of course, helps deliver nutrients to all parts of your body, the skin (which is the largest organ of elimination) included. Lack of proper circulation can cause toxic buildup, which Cayce often indicated is unhealthy for the skin. Add this to the harsh elements, and the itching begins!
What to Do?
If you suffer from generally dry skin, the following Cayce reading offers you the best approach to relief: " . . . specifically for the dry skin - we find it would be well once or twice a week to take almost a bath in Peanut Oil - but this more as a massage, to be sure. A small quantity - say two tablespoonful - should be enough to make a complete massage. Do this over the whole body.
Begin with the temples, the face, neck, shoulders, along the spine, limbs, arms - all parts of the body, and especially give this across the diaphragm area; that is, from the liver - or almost a circular portion of the body, see? This will make a glow and a circulation that will be most beneficial." (2582-1)
The above recommendation is peanut oil based, so additionally I suggest daily use of Olivae Skin Lotion which is a combination of olive, almond, peanut, and lanolin oils, plus Vitamin E. And I'd add an additional suggestion, which is to take a brisk walk daily when the sun shines! This is sure to improve circulation, lift your spirits, and give you a healthy glow . . . even in the middle of winter.

Itchy Scalp Sores? Try This Home Remedy For Instant Relief
By
Anne CresacreItchy scalp sores can be a very painful affliction. The good news is that they are often completely curable, and the symptoms can be normally be soothed with a simple, completely natural home remedy that you can knock up in minutes.
What is important, as with any sort of affliction, is to try and find out the root cause of the itchy scalp sores and begin there.
Itchy scalp sores can occur for a number of reasons. It's often got nothing to do with having dirty, unclean hair (although that is sometimes the case) - it can happen to people who are meticulously clean. Harsh shampoos and conditioners can cause the scalp to dry out and leave the follicles open to infection (folliculitis). Some other possible causes could be:
Stress related - brought on by exhaustion or emotional tension.
An allergic skin reaction (contact dermatitis).
Viral infections, such as chickenpox and shingles.
A skin condition, such as acne.
A cyst, such as an epidermal or sebaceous cyst, a sac beneath the outer layer of the skin that is filled with a greasy white material. These cysts most often appear on the scalp, ears, face, back, or scrotum and are caused by plugged ducts at the site of a hair shaft. Other problems can develop if the cyst becomes infected.
(Please note that every case is different and if you have an extreme case of scalp problems or are worried and uncertain about anything I would highly recommend you consult your doctor or dermatologist).
The itchiness of your scalp could be caused by the harsh chemicals in your shampoo, as they strip the skin of it's natural oils and cause it to dry out and become irritated. Repeatedly scratching your scalp will cause small wounds and lesions which can then become infected and become increasingly sore.
I would recommend trying to replace your current shampoo with a natural one, like a Tea Tree Oil based shampoo. Tea Tree Oil is a fantastic anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory natural ingredient which will help to soothe your itchy scalp sores and prevent infections.
Birch is another gift from nature that native Americans used to clear up skin irritations. It can be used effectively for modern problems such as psoriasis, eczema etc. Simply boil the bark of birch trees in water, strain the mixture and after cooling, then apply to the scalp to help clear up your itchy scalp sores.
This is a simple natural home remedy which should help to soothe the itchy scalp sores and aid the healing process.
There are many more remedies for an itchy scalp that you can make in the comfort of your own home. There is an excellent guide called
Dry Itchy Scalp Remedies which will give you tons more information on the causes of your itchy scalp and how to cure it.

A Glycolic Acid Peel Can Provide A Youthful Radiance, Smooth Wrinkles & Restore Your Skin's Health
By
Scott LeRoyA glycolic acid peel only sounds scary - actually, for millions of women it has become the answer to having smoother, blemish free skin in as little as 15 minutes. If you have acne scarring, wrinkles, sun damage or freckling you don't have to be unhappy with your reflection in the mirror anymore. And if you don't think you can fit a cosmetic procedure into your either your budget or your busy schedule, think again. Mild chemical peels can be relatively affordable and they can be performed so quickly and easily that they have come to be known as the "lunchtime" peel.
Facial peels are a skin care treatment which basically burns off a layer of damaged skin, leaving a clean, smooth layer in its place. While peels can occasionally be applied to other areas of the body, such as the hands, they are generally restricted to the face. Glycolic acid products are among the most gentle of peel alternatives. The effect on the skin is normally mild and recovery is very quick. Because of their mild nature, it may take several applications every few weeks to achieve optimum results.
Though it is recommended that deeper peels only be performed by a doctor, glycolic acid peels can be performed by a licensed cosmetologist or even be self administered at home. Mild peels are normally used to address thin lesions on the skin surface, such as fine wrinkles or freckles or pigment damage. For more serious blemishes, deeper peels are necessary. Glycolic peels generally result in light reddening and some tingling, which subside after several hours. Along with removing damaged skin, they can also stimulate collagen growth, helping to promote smooth skin.
Even though glycolic acid products can be safely applied by non-medical personnel, it is always a good idea to consult with your doctor before undergoing any such treatment. Not every patient will respond to every product the same way, and you may have special medical needs which will affect your ability to tolerate a peel. Your doctor will be able to warn you of any potential problems and possibly recommend which product is best for you to use.
After consulting with your doctor, you'll need to take several steps to prepare for your peel. These include the application of pre-treatment creams at night and 30+ SPF sunscreen during the day for several weeks prior to the application of a glycolic acid peel. You may also have to take an oral antibiotic or stop taking some medications which may interact badly with the ingredients in the peel.
Once you have completed treatment with glycolic acid products, you will need to take special precautions to protect the new layer of skin. Keep the treated area cool with a water spray to relieve burning and remember never to pick at the peeling skin as this can result in permanent scarring or discoloration. You should always keep the skin properly moisturized using light creams and protect it from the sun for at least six months after a peel. You may also be advised to use special moisturizing products at night which contain similar ingredients to those found in the milder peels.
Though complications are not common with milder peels, there is always some risk involved. Acne can result from either the
glycolic acid peel or the moisturizers used in conjunction with it, bacterial infection can occasionally occur, as can scarring or blotchy coloring. Fortunately, with the exception of scarring which can be permanent, these are all easily treatable.
No-one likes to look in the mirror and see flaws, but there is help available. Clear, smooth, youthful looking skin can be easily achieved with a 15 minute glycolic peel. Consult with your doctor today and find out which treatment will work best for you. In the space of your lunch hour, you can begin to feel better about your reflection!

Celebrity Secrets To Flawless Looking Skin
By
Sharon A BellDo not despair whenever you see celebrities and models having perfectly flawless and beautiful skin. These Hollywood beauties also experience the same problems that average women like you have. Do not ever think that celebrities are immune to age spots, skin discolorations, wrinkles, freckles and other blemishes. But if you want to look like a celebrity, you can always choose to follow their lead. Here is the buzz on how models, beauty queens and divas maintain their unblemished complexion and supple skin.
Hire The Best Make Up Artist
If you want to look fantastic in an event, do what the movie stars do - hire a professional make up artist. The reason why famous celebrities look jaw-droppingly gorgeous is that they contract the services of the best make up magicians in town. Even if you read countless magazines and books about make up, there is a big probability that you won't be able to replicate the way professional artists fix the appearance of stars. Just entrust your face, sometimes even your body, to the professionals and you will not be disappointed. You will surely be the center of attraction and envy of your friends because you will look like someone who just stepped out of a showbiz magazine.
However, you must realize that professional make up artists charge a lot. So if you only have little money to spare, you can always head to a make up counter in a department store and ask if they can do some makeover for you. These sessions are free, but it would be prudent to buy a few items from their store after they have glammed you up.
Know How To Hide From The Sun
Although you can see famous people basking in the sun, it doesn't mean that they are not protected. Surely, these people never go out in the sun without a strong sunscreen or sun block and a pair of eyeglasses to protect their skin and eyes. If you do not want to look like a raisin, follow what Hollywood stars do, stay indoors during the day and party during the night.
If you have to go out at around 9 AM to 4 PM, be sure to put on a sunscreen with a high sun protection factor, no less than 25 SPF. And although it is cold and gloomy during the winter season, you still need to put on your sun block.
Try Chemical Peel
Many celebrities maintain a rosy glowing skin because they exfoliate regularly. Aside from the daily scrubbing they do to their skin in the comforts of their own homes, they also head out to spas and dermatology clinics to have chemical peels. Such treatments are important in bringing out new skin by peeling away dead skin cells and in significantly reducing skin blemishes and discolorations. Chemical peels, which are popular not only in female but also in male celebrities, are quite expensive. Furthermore, in order to achieve a soft, supple and blemish-free face, neck and skin, you need to undergo a number of chemical peel sessions, usually not lower than 6 visits to skin clinics.
If you do not have the dough, however, you need to be content on using anti-aging and skin whitening creams. These products are also effective in fighting the signs of aging without draining your wallet. However, it usually takes a month or two before you can see the results of these kinds of face creams.
Since most face products can be bought over the counter or through the Internet, it is advisable
that you choose your anti-aging and skin whitening products well. Look for products that contain natural ingredients. One face cream that is effective in banishing age spots, wrinkles, freckles, fine lines and skin discoloration is Lumnaderm. If you want to know more about this product, just visit

Aloe Vera - First Aid From The Earth
By
Roger CantrellAloe vera has been used externally to treat various skin conditions such as cuts, burns and eczema for a long time by man going back to the mists of time. It is alleged that the sap from the Aloe plant will ease pain and reduce inflammation, in the 1990s tests carried out showed that the healing time of moderate to severe burns was reduced when the wound was treated on a regular basis with Aloe vera as compared to the healing of the wound covered in a standard bandage.
Aloe Vera's multi beneficial properties may be attributed to mucopolysaccharides present in the gel of the leaf, especially acemannan, Cosmetic companies add aloe vera to many of their products such as soaps, shampoos, makeup and moisturizers to name a few products, Aloe gel is also useful for dry skin conditions, especially eczema around the eyes and sensitive facial skin, One should always use the inner gel of the plant and not the aloe latex which is the yellow substance that comes from the inner side of the skin of the plant which can be an irritant.
If you grow your own always remove all skin and any yellow substance before using aloe on yourself, If you are not sure about this then the safest way to use this is to buy aloe gel in a squeezy plastic container and use that, this would be the method I would recommend as it takes the hassle out of acquiring the aloe gel other than growing it yourself, Gel used should be completely clear, odorless and tasteless, as well as using aloe Vera on your skin some people take it orally but this should only be done in consultation with your doctor.
If you want to grow your own plant or plants then this is a relatively easy job and it is a nice plant to have in the house the thing to remember is when the new shoots come out from the base of the plant don't transplant them to make other plants but leave them in place as these new shoots will provide support for the plant structure. Aloe Vera is relatively easy to care for just keep it in a frost-free environment. The plant requires well-drained sandy potting soil in moderate light such as the sun. If planted in pot or other containers ensure sufficient drainage with drainage holes. The use of a good quality potting mix to which extra perlite or coarse sand are added is the best growing medium.
It is a stemless or very short-stemmed succulent plant growing to 100 cm tall, spreading by offsets and root sprouts. The leaves are thick and fleshy, green to gray-green, with a serrated margin. The flowers are produced on a spike up to 90 cm tall, each flower is pendulous, with a yellow tubular corolla 2-3 cm long. and is native to northern Africa.

Louise ForrestDry skin is a very predominant and usual skin problem that is encountered by people from all ages. Because of the unhealthy lifestyle, the abundant impurities in the environment and the harshness of most active ingredients in skincare products, it is most of the time inevitable to contract such a problem. Unfortunately, not all people are well knowledgeable about appropriate actions that must be done when there is a problem of dry skin. If you have time to spare, massage your own body by using a solution that is made up of coconut oil and one or any of your top favorite scented oils, including rosemary and lavender.
If your palms turn rough due to hard work and excessive drying of the skin, it would be more advisable if you would apply into the affected part a mixture of lime juice and coconut oil. Doing so would greatly and effectively scrap dry skin.
Coconut oil can also be ideal for cracked skin on the heels. When using coconut oil, it would also be advisable to keep each of your feet in relatively warm water.

With a regular use of these natural oils, you will soon have a glowing skin with reduced signs of aging.
Aromatherapy is an exceptional science which has been able to harness the essence of plants and these are known as essential oils. Using essential oils effectively is an easy art which not makes you look nice, but relaxes you mentally too.
Aromatherapy Bath oils have the inherent qualities of essential oils, while they also nourish your skin making you feel healthy, clean and nourished. Bath oils usually have plant oil extracts to hydrate and nourish the skin without chemicals.
For better skin care, buy products which do not have alcohol or chemicals but have concentrated plant oil extracts and other pure oils - avocado, coconut, almond oils. Pure bath oils may be expensive but that may be another reason you can differentiate between pure organic oil and artificially fragrant bath oils. It is advised to buy bath oils and related skin care products from reputed shops that sell organic health products. Youth and beauty are undying dreams as everyone wants to look beautiful and young, so why not start today to care about your skin?
If you are looking for a different gift for a party favor or maybe just surprise someone, make a beautiful gift of organic bath oil packs, you would be surprised how much people appreciate such exotic gifts.
Bath oils are ever popular even as gifts, especially when you want to show someone you care, gift organic, natural gifts that do not contain harmful chemicals and are safe even on gentle skins. Usually all natural products are non allergic so happy using and gifting eco friendly products!

Home Remedies for Dandruff - Get Rid of Dandruff Tips
By
Dr John AnneBack To Basics
Seems everyone is going back to basics. Instead of treatments and cures that use chemicals we are taking the time to look into safe and natural alternatives. We love the natural alternatives to better health, weight loss, skin and hair care. This time of year as the weather gets colder, some of us will suffer from dry skin and dry hair. Natural home remedies are once again becoming as popular as they were years ago with our parents and grandparents. A favorite for anyone suffering from dandruff is a home remedy. If you have a problem with dandruff, try these safe and natural home remedies.
A Dandruff Home Remedy from India
The ingredients you will need are curd, honey and lemon. Use two tablespoons of curd and mix with three drops of honey and three drops of lemon juice. Mix together and apply to the scalp, leave on for fifteen minutes, then scrub for fifteen minutes.
Try Coconut Oil For A Dandruff Home Remedy
The best place of buy coconut oil is at any natural or health food store like GNC. Apply the coconut oil to the scalp and scrub away the dead skin with a brush or fingernails. Next, either hold your head under a faucet of hot water or in the shower under hot water for fifteen minutes. You will have immediate results that will last up to six months or a year.
A Canadian Answer For A Dandruff Home Remedy
This will work wonders for your dandruff problem. Apply baby oil to the entire head in the evening, wrap your head with a towel and leave on until morning then shampoo. Use the baby oil daily until all dandruff is gone.
Another Dandruff Home Remedy From The States
The answer to this home remedy is lemon juice. It's best to use the lemon juice in squeeze bottles since it's easier to control. Stand over either your kitchen or bathroom sink and squirt the lemon juice all over your head and massage. Leave on for about fifteen minutes, then wash your hair. It usually takes no more than two treatments for the dandruff itch to disappear. This is just a temporary cure. Repeat as needed should the dandruff come back.
A Dandruff Home Remedy From The Kitchen
Check your kitchen cupboard for olive oil and almond oil. If you don't have either one, you can usually buy them at health food or vitamin stores. Mix the two together and apply to scalp and leave on for five minutes. Once it starts to tingle rinse and shampoo.
A
Dandruff Home Remedy From The Barber Shop
Here's an old remedy from a retired barber. Add two crushed aspirins to your shampoo when you wash your hair. Leave the mixture on for two minutes then rinse and wash again. This remedy usually works after one treatment.
For a quick fix try aloe vera gel 10-15 minutes before you wash your hair. Leave it on for about 10 minutes then shampoo your hair. Use this on a daily basis to keep dandruff away. On a regular basis try crushing about 10-20 aspirin and mix with liquid shampoo. Use this dandruff home remedy on a daily basis. Soak Fenugreek seeds (purchased from a health food store) overnight in water. In the morning when the seeds are soft, grind them into a paste and apply to the scalp. Leave on for half an hour rinse then shampoo.
Something most people have in their kitchen are thyme leaves. Boil about 4 to 5 leaves in two cups of water for ten minutes. After the mixture cools apply to your scalp and leave on for half an hour then rinse and shampoo. Also, you can make a tea of apple sage and rosemary tea then apply to scalp leave on for approximately 10-15 minutes rinse then shampoo. There are many natural home remedies for the treatment and prevention of dandruff. Check out your local bookstore for books on herbal and natural home remedies.

What is My Skin Type?
By
Robin BrainThe Term "Skin Type" Refers to two things: how much sebum your skin produces, and where this sebum is most heavily produced. To find out your skins type, you can do the tissue test: Simply wash your face with a gentle cleanser, wait 15 to 30 minutes, and then hold a facial tissue against your face for 5 seconds.
Different skin types
If you have oily skin, you're probably aware of it already, but if you need confirmation, do the tissue test. Oily skin will cause obvious oil stains on most of the tissue. This type of skin is the result of too much sebum being produced. The constant flow of sebum stretches pores, so the skin may also have large pores. The complexion often looks shiny, and because excess sebum can mix with makeup and dirt to clog pores, oily skin is vulnerable to breakouts.
Normal skin is the ideal. It produces enough sebum to keep skin supple, but not so much that skin looks slick. If you have normal skin, the tissue test may produce light oil stains, but nothing more.
As we get older, our skin naturally produces less sebum, which is why more mature skin is so often dry. Yet young skin can also be dry if it doesn't produce enough oil to keep the epidermis moist. Depending on how dry the skin is, it may have a rough texture or be prone to flaking. And because not a lot of sebum travels through pores, the pores will probably be small. If you have dry skin, the tissue test will show no oily stains.
Combination skin
Quite a few of us have large pores and lots of oil around the nose, chin, and perhaps forehead. But we also have normal or dry skin under the eyes and on the cheeks. This is known as combination skin. If you have it, the tissue test will show oil stains in your oily areas, but will remain dry elsewhere. To treat combination skin, address the two zones separately, giving the oily bits the sebum-absorbing care they need, and moisturizing the dry or normal bits.

Beautiful Skin is a Two Step Process
By
Cole CarsonSkin care is an important and wildly popular topic, and it's obvious to see why. Your skin is one of the most significant factors determining your appearance, and the difference between clean, healthy skin and flaky, dry skin is staggering. The condition of your skin can also drastically affect how old you look, and with the recent explosion of interest in keeping the human body as young as possible for as long as possible, proper skin care has become more important than it ever has been before. The important thing to remember about skincare is that it's a two-step process - it has to be taken care of from the inside as well as on the surface. Healthy, beautiful skin is only the result of a combination of proper nutrition, and intelligent surface skin care.
Your skin is like a window to the inside of your body. Anything that happens to your skin, whether it is poor complexion, dryness, irritability, or acne, is a reflection of something that is going on beneath it. Because, of this, proper nutrition is critical, and there are actually a number of vitamins that are very beneficial for the skin. For starters, there are Vitamins C, E, and K. These vitamins all serve to protect the skin from foreign agents, such as damaging free-radicals which cause aging and sun damage, so getting the appropriate amounts of these Vitamins will help your skin be more durable and resist damage.
Another key vitamin you should be getting in your diet is Vitamin A. - This vitamin alone is probably the most important as far as skin health goes. Vitamin A is responsible for the repair, maintenance, and all around normal care of your skin cells, helping skin to heal itself and correct any problems it may be having. In the average person, vitamin A is usually found in abundant supply, but if there is ever even a slight deficiency, skin problems such as dry, flaky skin, or a poor complexion are almost certain. Zinc is another incredible mineral you should add to your skin care arsenal. Zinc helps your skin keep its oil levels regulated at a healthy range, and if your skin isn't getting the amount of zinc it needs, your body will not be able to regulate the appropriate levels, leading to excess oil, clogged pores, and you guessed it. - Acne. So make sure to get plenty of zinc!
Complete skin care must also take place on the surface of the skin. While internal ingredients have a huge impact on your skin's appearance, there are things your body just can't do with nutrition alone. The first step to complete external skin care is regular cleansing - over the course of time, oils and foreign deposits build-up on your skin, and cleansing can help to get rid of these. Make sure to use cleansers that are low in chemicals and as natural as possible, and apply a light moisturizing lotion on afterwards to replace the oils that cleansing removes. Facial scrubs are another great idea, and should be used roughly once weekly in addition to cleansing. Scrubs are slightly harder and deeper reaching than cleansing, able to clean out the pores and allow the skin to breathe more freely. When selecting a scrub, make sure that it is not so rough as to actually damage or aggravate the skin. This can actually cause further problems.
Taking the time to implement a skin care regimen can do a lot for your appearance, as your skin's condition has a significant impact on the way you look. Healthy, vibrant skin can make you look years younger, and is very attractive. Remember that what you put into your body has a huge impact on your skin, and that you should clean your skin before bed every night to make sure your skin has a good chance to breathe and isn't being clogged up with foreign waste and oils.

Superfoods for Optimal Skincare
By
Menachem GreenBetter watch out what you're holding; that could be one cigarette, or beer, too many. You wouldn't want to age faster than usual, would you? Now it may make some sense to lend an ear to the cliche that we become what we eat. Practically everybody in the health world knows that what we eat, drink and take in can have visible effects on our skin. Let's go over what superfoods can you eat on your way to great glowing skin.
But now that we mentioned nutrition, let's try covering the basics of what makes your skin come alive. Keep in mind vitamin A, which happens to be one of the most necessary ingredients for skin health. Low-fat dairy products is one of its top sources. Another plus point to low-fat yogurt is that it contains the "live" healthy microorganisms that helps out in balancing the bacteria in the stomach. Other good sources of vitamin A include cod liver oil, yams, carrots, and leafy vegetables.
Aside from Vitamin A, how about having heard of foods rich in antioxidants? such as vegetables, fruits, grain cereals, legumes and nuts. The benefits of these foods for healthy skin are plentiful. The antioxidants and other phytochemicals in these fruits can protect the skin cells, so there is less chance for damage. This in turn guards against premature aging, and keeps skin looking younger longer. Yet more sources of antioxidants are whole wheat cereals, tea, black, red, and pinto beans, prunes, and pecans. By the way, remember that processed foods contain less antioxidants than fresh and uncooked foods, since the essentials can be lost in the food by storing them in the ref or the cooking process.
While some scientific health discoveries are by themselves good, they are sometimes commercialized to the point of being regarded as only hype. It is good that some ideas really survive due to their worthiness; take essential fatty acids (EFAs) for example. Essential to your skin's health, these can be part of your diet through fish, nuts, canola oil, and flax seed. What these fatty acids do is to keep cell membranes healthy, and allow nutrients to pass through.
Another important benefit is that EFA are said to protect heart health.
We also need healthy oils, which holds more nutrients than essential fatty acids. Eating good-quality oils leads to a well-lubricated and more vibrant skin. If you find cold pressed oils, get them. Only some two tablespoons a day of healthy oils can be maximized by our body; employ prudence when using oil in your food.
Recent studies show that if the chemical element selenium's levels are high, even skin damaged by the sun may only suffer minimal, if any, damage. Turn to foods like whole-wheat bread, muffins and cereals, turkey, tuna and Brazil nuts for this important nutrient.
Would this article on skin health and dietary habits be complete without touching on sugars?
Choosing the whole grain counterparts of complex carbohydrates can have an important effect on insulin levels. Processed sugars can create skin inflammations that can spoil the skin.
The amazing green tea, aside from containing cancer-fighting agents, has anti-inflammatory properties, and maintains the membrane of the cell.
Water, nature's very own toxin remover, plays such an important role in your overall health.
Drinking it during meals and during moments when you sweat a lot may help contribute to skin that is healthy and vibrant. It also helps expels toxins out of your body.

A Practical Guide To Different Skin Care Products
By
Sharon A BellNowadays, consumers are bombarded with various beauty products. There are creams and gels for the eyes, night cream for anti-aging purposes, and other stuff for almost all parts of your face. As a result of the plentitude of beauty applications in the market, many people are already confused and bewildered on what type of beauty product is ideal for their needs and flaws.
If you are one of the many people who are interested in trying out new beauty products but are clueless about what their functions are, read on and discover the types of facial and skin products that are available in your local department stores, beauty bars and the Internet:
CLEANSING PRODUCTS
As the name implies, beauty items that are under this type are aimed at cleansing your face and skin; ensuring that your face and skin are free of debris, pollutants, makeup, dirt and even dead skin cells. The following are the most popular cleansing products:
Facial Wash
You need to lather up this product with water. Facial washes are designed to dissolve dirt, makeup traces and grime from the surface of your skin. You can choose a facial wash depending on your skin type and special needs.
Cream Cleansers
If you have dry skin, cream cleansers are more appropriate for you because they not only cleanse your skin and face, but they also contain oils which prevents moisture from being stripped of your skin. Most cream cleansers can be washed out with warm water or by wiping off with tissue or cloth.
Soap Cleansers
Most ordinary soaps contain harsh ingredients that might harm the sensitive skin on your face. Thus, special soap bars have been created for the face. These products are more appropriate for people who have oily skin type because they aid in clearing pores to prevent development of pimples, whiteheads and other skin problems.
Astringents And Toners
The role of toners and astringents is to ensure the removal of excess oil and dirt that have not been stripped away by facial cleansing products. You need to know that astringents have higher alcohol content than toners. People with oily skin can use astringent, while those with normal and combination skin should use toners. Those with dry skin should avoid using either of these two.
Eye Makeup Remover
Some eye makeup cannot be removed by water and soap alone. You really need eye makeup remover to get rid of waterproof mascaras and eyeliners. Furthermore, the skin surrounding the eye is very sensitive so you cannot just use toners and astringents. Eye makeup remover is specifically designed to strip off dirt and grime in the eye area without drying or irritating the skin.
PRODUCTS FOR SPECIAL NEEDS
Moisturizers
Moisturizers act as a barrier so that moisture on the surface of your skin is retained. Everyone is advised to use moisturizers, regardless of the skin type. You just have to choose a product that is appropriate for your skin type. Furthermore, people with drier skin should apply thicker layers of moisturizer.
Sunscreens
The harmful rays of the sun are one of the major causes of aging. Sun blocks or sunscreens are created to help prevent such rays from damaging the skin. You need to know that the higher the sun protection factor of your sunscreen, the better protection that it gives.
Anti-Blemish Face Creams
Products that are specifically designed to target skin problems usually fall under the category of anti-blemish face creams. These beauty concoctions are designed to target imperfections, such as uneven skin tone, brown spots, and other blemishes. One anti-blemish face cream that can help even out your skin tone and reduce skin discoloration, age spots and freckles is Lumnaderm. Visit www.Lumnaderm.com for more information.

Herbal Skin Care Basics
By
Denise VillaniCenturies ago, herbal skin care was pretty much the only way to take care of skin. These days, herbal skin care routines have been replaced by synthetic and chemical-based skin care routines. Skin care products range from basic moisturizers and cleansers to specialized products that promise to reduce wrinkles, diminish fine lines, and revitalize your skin to give you a more youthful appearance. The question is how safe are all these chemicals we put into and onto our bodies every day and what can we do?
Although the thought of making your own herbal skin care products at home is nice, many people just don't have the time or knowledge it takes to make their own skin care products. Because of this, the commercial market for herbal skin care products is on the rise. You have to ask yourself, however, are these products really completely natural? In many cases, the answer is no, since many products contain some sort of chemicals anyway.
When you use products like lotions, creams, and cosmetics on your skin, the ingredients are absorbed into your body. This is why doctors use patches for things like Nicotine withdrawal, pain medication, and even birth control. By using herbal natural skin care products, you can reduce the amount of chemicals you put into your body.
Natural ingredients are known for their cleansing properties, antiseptic characteristics, and moisturizing abilities. Things like aloe, chamomile, and rosemary, are known to be good cleansers. Lavender, thyme, and fennel are great antiseptics and toners. Tea tree oil, beeswax, and cocoa butter are widely-known as moisturizers.
Aloe-containing creams, gels, and ointments are good for minor burns, sunburn, cuts, abrasions, wounds, and frostbite. Aloe is also found in many shampoos, soaps, sunscreens, skin creams and other cosmetics that are used to soothe, heal, protect, and moisturize the skin. Aloe Vera lotions are widely used for cleansing the skin. Many of the skin care products containing aloe vera are also fortified with Vitamin E and collagen to help maintain skin elasticity and lock in moisture.
Chamomile is an ideal ingredient for treating acne, irritation, rashes, eczema, psoriasis, hypersensitive skin and allergic conditions. Chamomile oil has also great wound healing properties. Using chamomile helps to reduce puffiness, cleanse pores of impurities, and helps reduce redness of the skin.
Rosemary oil helps cleanse and rejuvenate oily and dull skin. Popular in anti-aging creams, it has excellent toning effects on loose, sagging skin, and helps increase blood flow which in turn promotes healthy skin function. It helps to relieve puffiness and swelling, and promotes a glowing, youthful looking complexion.
Lavender helps the skin heal itself, stimulates cell growth, reduces inflammation, prevents scarring and helps balance oil production. It exhibits antibacterial, antiviral, antiseptic, bactericide and anti-inflammatory properties which makes it ideal for use in products that treat skin problems like acne, eczema, minor infections, oily skin, boils, burns, sunburn, wounds and psoriasis. Lavender also makes a great toner.
Thyme is considered to be a great antioxidant, astringent and a beneficial ingredient for improving skin tone. It's also a powerful antifungal and antiviral used to help keep skin free from fungi and viruses.
Fennel oil is used for soothing, cleansing and toning the skin, while at the same time improving circulation and fighting water retention and puffiness.
Rose extract and rose oil are great for promoting a youthful complexion with good tone, elasticity and an even color.
Tea tree oil can be used to fight and clear up acne, skin lesions and blemishes, cold sores, athlete's foot, sunburn, fungal nail infections and infected wounds, and at the same time it soothes the irritated and inflamed skin.
Witch hazel helps with controlling water loss, is a good astringent, an antioxidant, and helps reduce skin redness.
Avocado oil is easily absorbed by the skin and is used as an emollient. Its hydrating properties make it ideal for dry, dehydrated or aged skin. Avocado oil is also used to relieve the dryness and itching of psoriasis and eczema.
Beeswax is a thickening agent, emulsifier, and humectant. It has wonderfully emollient, soothing and softening properties and helps the skin retain moisture.
Cocoa butter is a rich emollient which is great for nourishing very dry and dehydrated skin.
Green tea is an antioxidant that helps prevents free radical damage, skin tumors and cancers. Green tea has been tauted as an effective anti-aging ingredient, anti-inflammatory agent, and helps fight collagen breakdown, which helps you maintain firm and elastic skin.
Herbal skin care products have many uses, as you can see. Whether it's skin basic skin care or treatment of skin problems like, acne, eczema and psoriasis there is an ingredient in nature that will help. Most herbal skin care products have no side effects, which makes them a better choice than synthetic products. Additionally, with a little time and effort, they can easily be made at home, which will save you money. You should keep in mind, however, that in some cases, some skin orders might need to be treated with clinically proven non-herbal skin care products.

By
Anita R ChoudharySkin care is a priority with today's generation of people, especially the ones who are developing signs of aging. The increase of chemicals in our lives and the side effects of it have turned us towards a chemical free life with fresh fruits and vegetables. As our skin absorbs all the chemicals that are present in the skin care lotions and creams so we need to turn to organic skin care. What's So Special About Dead Sea Mineral Salts?
By
Jane SharpiePeople who wish to tone their skin, cleanse their mind, and relax their bodies should do what ancient beauties like Cleopatra and the Queen of Sheba did: they used the salts from the mineral-rich Sea in Israel, which are known for their therapeutic and cosmetic benefits.
We have heard a lot about Dead Sea minerals and salts lately. Many people are wondering if these products are just the latest fad, or if they really work and will provide real health benefits. The minerals from these products are proven to provide many essential healing properties.
The Dead Sea is located in Jordan and Israel. It is about 15 miles east of Jerusalem. It is also known as the lowest point on earth because it has 417 feet below the sea level and has more saline than the other seas. Because it has a high concentration of salt, the the Sea does not support any aquatic life. This is why it is called Dead Sea. The minerals found there are far different from those in other ocean waters. These minerals include chloride, potassium chloride and sodium chloride.
If you were to swim in the Sea of Israel, you would float easily thanks to the high concentration of salt. The Minerals have been clinically proven to increase our body's circulation; it can also help our skin in maintaining its natural moisture. Researchers have found that it can heal psoriasis, eczema, acne and even wrinkles. It also aids in healing ailments. A 20 minute bath will draw toxins out of your body. Many bath salts are now sold on the market, but not all of them are from real Dead Sea. When buying your bath salts, read the label very carefully. Always remember that if the label does not specify that it is from the "
Dead Sea" then you will not reap the benefits of the minerals.
The San Francisco Bath Salt Company provides an extensive selection of luxury bath salts and dead sea salts for retail and wholesale customers. Our website is a very useful resource for articles, recipes, news, and healthcare tips concerning bathing. You can find us at

Qualities of the Perfect Facial Cleanse
By
Eve StahlMany of us waiver between the extremes of simply rinsing our face with water to avoid drying out our skin or the use of harsh alkaline based cleansing products that strip the skin of its natural protective oils. It can be difficult to know what is best to do since a facial cleanse needs to remove both water soluble and oil soluble debris. Fortunately there are balanced solutions available.
Our skin comes in daily contact with environmental toxins, communicable germs and more. Add a hot climate or physical activity to the equation and perspiration holds toxins intended for elimination on the skin's surface. A facial cleanse needs to remove both water soluble and oil soluble debris without the use of harsh alkaline based cleansing products that strip the skin of its natural protective oils. The production of sebum (oil) by the sebaceous glands becomes unbalanced in reaction to drying soaps. Oily skin gets mixed messages. In response to sudden dryness it compensates by producing excessive oils. Dry skin becomes extremely dry. It appears sallow and becomes rough in texture.
A perfect cleanse affords deep yet gentle cleansing that soothes and nourishes the skin leaving it feeling clean, balanced, soft and glowing with vibrant health. What ingredients will offer this end result? Natural ingredients! Gentle use of clay will remove and absorb toxins without stripping the skin. Seaweeds nourish the skin with minerals, amino acids and other valuable nutrients.
Oats are cleansing, soothing and calming especially for sensitive skin.
Liquid cleanses are valuable for cleansing the skin while simultaneously feeding it the benefits of vegetable oils specifically chosen for their therapeutic properties and suited to different skin types. A word of caution though, most liquid facial cleansers contain sodium lauryl sulfate which is reported to cause eye irritation, skin rashes, hair loss, scalp scurf (similar to dandruff) and allergic reactions. Lauryl, laureth sulfates and other coconut derivatives are used to create suds and foam. We have come to associate lots of lather with good cleansing. The suds and foam may be fun, but they do not assist the cleansing function and they are a definite sign that a harmful ingredient is present.
Exfoliates are used to remove dead skin cells from the outer layer of the skin. This brings young skin cells to the surface and stimulates cell growth in the lower layers of the skin. Removing cell build up on the surface of the skin makes wrinkles appear softer and smoother. If exfoliating is overdone or harshly done it can irritate the underlying layers of the skin by exposing the cells prematurely. Use only natural exfoliates that will be gentle.
Masks are used for deep cleansing to remove undesirable build up of any product that may clog your pores and for those skin types that benefit from occasional deeper attention. A mask should be moisturizing, nourishing and re-mineralizing to the skin. They can offer toning but should not be tightening or drying to the skin. A good mask should leave your skin soft and supple, toned and glowing with radiant health. Eve's Mud Party product meets all of these criteria. http://www.gardenofeveskincare.com Love the Mud!!! I swear I have lost a new line I had developing under my eye. Over the last 2 years I have tried numerous upscale and natural brands. I choose Garden of Eve over all.- Lilla O. Plains, VA
Garden of Eve Cleansers do the job:

It leaves the skin supple, moist and glowing, feeling particularly clean ... ready for toner and moisturizer. It is a powder that you mix with toner or water. It has both exfoliating properties and can also be used as a deep cleansing mask.
http://www.gardenofeve.com/product_info.phpcPath=22&products_id=63 I especially like your Facial Cleanse or Mask product. It leaves my skin feeling particularly clean and soft; better than any other cleanse I have ever experienced. - Sandy J. , Cville, VA

Anatomy Of A Good Moisturizer
By
Stephen CauldryFor most skin care consumers, attempting to decode the ingredients on the back of a skin moisturizer product can be a little overwhelming. Luckily for those of us lacking a degree in chemistry, all moisturizers are pretty much structured in the same manner. Moisturizers imitate the skin's own moisturizing capabilities by utilizing ingredients that either block the loss of water or attract water from the dermis layer to the skin's surface.
Ingredients found in moisturizers can be broken into two categories: occlusive agents and humectant agents. Occlusive agents create an oily barrier on the surface of the skin in order to lock in the skin's moisture. Paraffin, beeswax, cocoa, and petrolatum are common occlusive ingredients used in moisturizers. Occlusives can be very heavy and cause breakouts in acne-prone individuals. Some moisturizers replace the use of occlusive agents with silicones which produces the same oily feel but without the pore-clogging properties of oil.
The second type of ingredients, humectant agents, increase water content by attracting moisture from the underlying skin tissue. Many humectant agents, such as lactates and urea, found in the top moisturizers occur naturally in the skin. These agents can hold up to 1000 times their weight in water making them extremely effective at increasing water content to the surface layer of skin.
Occlusive and humectant agents are not the only ingredients that make up a good moisturizer. Emollients fill in tiny creases between surface skin cells making the skin softer and smoother. Preservatives are essential to thwarting the growth of bacteria and minimizing the risk of product contamination. Emulisifiers allow normally, non-mixable solutions to blend rather than separate into layers like oil and water commonly would. Solvents dissolve ingredients making them absorbable. And finally, fragrances are added to mask foul odors and give the product a pleasing aromatic scent.
Moisturizers fall into two groups: water-in-oil and oil-in-water formulas. These moisturizers are also known as night and day creams, respectively. Day creams are light and easily absorbed. Night creams are heavier and more oily than their counterpart allowing it to stay on the skin surface for a longer period of time.
Developing a good moisturizer is a matter of employing the proper balance of the above mentioned ingredients. A recommended option to applying a seemingly infinite number of skin care cosmeceuticals is an anti aging cream called LifeCell. This all-in-one treatment is not only a moisturizer but an age-spot reducer, corrective eye treatment, lip-plumper, and make-up base. Now that you have the knowledge, dare to read the active ingredients label before purchasing your next moisturizer.

Dermatitis Of The Ear - Effective Management
By
Madonna JeffriesWhen we think about dermatitis and the places this particular skin condition can affect, most people would not think to include having dermatitis of the ear. Instead they would always consider that the most commonly affected areas of the body would be cheeks, neck, back, hands and feet. But the truth of the matter is that literally any part of the body can be affected by this dreadful skin condition. Dermatitis of the ear is becoming more prevalent and quite a number of people are suffering from this infliction.
I have devoted this article to explaining some of the facts that you need to know about dermatitis of the ear and identify some of the more common contributing factors that trigger this kind of skin condition. Included are also details of the more popular types of treatment that could help to manage or control the symptoms of ear dermatitis. Most of the recommended treatment regimes are proven to be very effective and are easy to follow.
What May Be The Cause
It is known that the cause of dermatitis of the ear is often hereditary, particularly if members of your immediate family have a history of suffering from eczema or even psoriasis. Other cases, which are not hereditary, include sufferers who have been or are currently exposed to chemical formulations such as chlorine. For this reason you will find that many swimmers suffer from dermatitis of the ear. Other contributing factors that can eventually lead a person to contract this kind of irritation, is through the use of certain harshly formulated shampoos, soaps, and conditioners. Often these personal cleaning products contain harmful ingredients that affect certain individuals.
When you are suffering from dermatitis the symptoms can include scaly skin around and on the ears, which is very dry and itchy. If the sufferer constantly scratches the area it often results in lesions, pus or wounds so it is imperative that they avoid scratching the affected area, no matter how itchy it becomes. Other logical steps would be to switch to using a more gentle shampoo, soap and conditioner as this can often help reduce or eliminate the symptoms of dermatitis of the ear. There are a number of specialized hair and body cleansing products available today that are designed for people who suffer from dermatitis and eczema.
Treatments To Consider
One of the most popular and effective treatments of dermatitis of the ear is the use of bacterial ear drops, such as the brand Ciproxin HP ear drops, which are a prescription antibiotic and hydrocortisone combination. As it is believed that around eighty percent of long-term sufferers of dermatitis of the ear are caused through a bacterial origin, this type of medication may be the obvious one to help you in treating your skin condition.
Ciproxin HC formulation is a fungal treatment which is quite new to the market. This product has been found to be quite effective with treating dermatitis of the ear if the root cause of the dermatitis is fungus based (which is the case in 20% of cases). As always, if you are unsure as to the cause and best ways to manage and control your dermatitis of the ear please consult a medical practitioner.
