There are many ways to compare night creams. You can look at the prices, the customer testimonials or if you have a little bit of knowledge, you can look for the right ingredients. The best over the counter night cream would probably just as effective as any prescription product on the market.
Actually, there is only one prescription lotion that has FDA approval for use against wrinkles.
One of the trade names is Retin-A. It's also used to treat acne and is a synthetic form of vitamin A or retinol. Whenever there's a big market for a vitamin, some company learns how to produce it synthetically. One way that you can compare night creams is to look for all natural ones. They work best and they're safer. Who knows what all of these synthetic chemicals are doing to our health.
If you asked a doctor of naturopathic medicine how to find the best over the counter night cream, he or she would tell you that you should not use anything on your body that you would not choose to eat. We eat many things without realizing it. Food manufacturers are allowed to add artificial preservatives, synthetic vitamins and other substances that people might not choose to eat, if they knew they were there.
Even if we carefully read the label of ingredients, we might not know what's in our skincare products. The Environmental Working Group reports that many skincare products are contaminated. There suggestion for finding the best over the counter night cream or any other cosmetic is this.
Find out what the manufacture does to insure purity. Do not buy cosmetics that contain ingredients that are likely to be contaminated with lead, mercury or other hazardous chemicals.
Buy only from companies that adhere to the regulations set down by the European Union, because they are much stricter than US standards. Look for a company that has signed the "Compact for Safe Cosmetics". So, that's how you compare night creams, if you want something safe. Here are a few other things to look for.
The best over the counter night cream contains natural vitamin A because of the plant extracts and oils that it contains. Retin-A is known to cause redness, itching and irritation, but it has also been shown to stimulate the production of collagen. Avocado oil contains natural vitamin A and has been shown to increase collagen production, but it is completely non-irritating. In fact, it feels luxurious going on.
When you compare night creams, look for ones that contain cold-pressed Shea butter. Shea butter, in its most natural form, is one of the most moisturizing lotions available. It is very similar to the skin's own sebum and if a product is really the best over the counter night cream, it will contain it.
If you compare night creams according to price, you might think that the highest priced products are of the best quality, but that's not always true. Some companies charge less, but still manage to give you more.
