Skin Care For Sunburn Relief
By Tim Faber

For many of us, this is our first time of the year for and extended and fun-filled time time in the sun. Unfortunately, this is also the days when we experience the greatest risks of sunburn. providing relief and healing requires using the right products - and active ingredients - to soothe itching, burning and help heal burns.

It is a problem that has plagued people for hundreds of years. We know what causes it and yet too many of us fall prey to those powerful ultraviolet sun rays. While some people get sunburn only because of lack of preparation when spending time outdoors there are others who get burned (sometimes severely) when they succumb to the irresistible desire to develop a gorgeous tan or a few days at the beach.

No matter how desperately you feel the need to have a deep dark tan, you should always wear sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher that also provides protection against both UVA and UVB rays; many of the most well meaning sun worshippers are surprised to learn that not all sunscreens protect them as well as they thought.

Treatment After the Burn

When you have already done the damage, application of an ointment or cream with lidocaine as an ingredient will offer some degree of temporary pain relief. Products that contain Aloe Vera and Vitamin E in combination with Emu Oil are most effective for soothing sunburned skin. Emu oil is a natural anti-inflammatory and its anti-bacterial and anti-microbial qualities make it a perfect complement to the healing properties of Vitamin E and Aloe Vera.

While your skin is in recovery mode you need to resist the urge to peel the dry, dead tissue and blisters away. Doing so can cause serious problems as you are exposing new skin before it is fully developed. This can lead to infections and the accumulation of harmful bacteria, a problem that will be lessened dramatically if you are using the products mentioned previously.

Finally, a word about water. The majority of people labor under the misconception that drinking sodas, coffee and tea can make up for the lack of pure water they drink each day. However, the fact remains that despite these drinks we are still largely under-hydrated. This can be solved by simply drinking more water.

Whether you have a sunburn or not, proper hydration is absolutely crucial to the overall healthy functioning of your body. When your skin is compromised as it is in the case of sun damage, hydration is even more important.
