Warts is, in most cases, a harmless skin condition and the biggest problems people have with warts are that they are unattractive. Some warts can be harmful but in the majority of cases people choose to have warts removed due to appearance rather than pain. If you have warts you can choose to have them professionally removed, which can be quite expensive, or try an at home remedy for wart removal. Before you decide to remove your warts it is a good idea to consider the advantages and disadvantages of removing your own warts.
Over The Counter Medications
If you choose to remove warts yourself, the most common option is to choose an over the counter medication. Most of these medications have been tested and are safe if used properly, problems can occur if you don't follow the instructions exactly. Improper use of "freeze off" wart removers can result in burns and scarring, which could look much worse and be much more painful than the wart itself.
Home Remedies
Another option for at home wart removal is to use a home remedy, this is usually not recommended because the ingredients and combination of ingredients usually haven't been scientifically or medically tested, meaning that results are unpredictable. Make sure you trust your source of information, try to find w well known or trusted home remedy book or website.
There are some home remedies that seem to be too ridiculous to be true but some people swear by them, for example rubbing crushed garlic, slices of potato or banana peel on warts and a common home remedy is to use duct tape (apply the duct tape and keep it on the wart for a week, then scrub off!).
After You Remove The Wart
Don't just worry about the actual wart removal, make sure you care for the infected area after you have removed the wart. Take care of your skin and keep it clean and covered to reduce the chance of infection.
Be aware of the dangers of at home wart removal and try the method that seems best for you, if anything goes wrong seek medical assistance.
