Just What is the Best Step For Treating Dry Skin?
By Louise Forrest

Dry skin, which is also known as xerosis, is the condition that occurs when there is a lack of sebum secretion from the oil or sebaceous glands. Dry skin dries up very quickly due to less oil available to keep it moisturized.

Dryness of the skin can be due to various reasons, like very cold or hot weather, stress, wrong eating habits etc. It can also occur as side effect of some medication or even due to some other skin problem as eczema or psoriasis etc. Age can also be one of the major factors for it, as the oil glands become less active and secret less oil with the growing age. Spending most of the time in an air conditioned or centrally heated atmosphere. These devices reduce moisture level in the surrounding, thus also affect your skin too, and make it dry.

This dryness can also lead to other conditions as itching and cracking of skin, resulting into wrinkles and crow's feet. Dandruff is also an effect of dry skin.

Winter weather is one of skin's worst enemies. Although winter weather will put your skin through more wear and tear than usual, there are other factors that should be considered while talking care of your skin. Staying for too long in an environment where air-conditioning or heating equipments are used, will also affect your skin and especially if you have a dry type of it.
You also need to be careful during the summer months too as the heat from the sun does effectively take away from the skin any essential oils that it needs, and there is a greater likelihood that the skin does feel rough and very dry to touch.

Caring For Dry Skin

Taking care of dry skin is not very difficult to achieve. The very first step is to keep it moisturized.

Washing it more frequently is harmful as it washes away the moisture from the skin and leaves it even drier. Use mild cleanser for washing.

Take bath with cold or lukewarm water.

Use oil based cosmetics for make up purpose.

One very important thing is eating balanced diet and consuming a lot of water and fluids.
After bathing, dry the skin by patting gently with a soft towel. Rubbing it with rough textured cloth may harm it.

Massaging the skin using plenty of body massage oil helps a lot in terms of keeping the skin look supple and shiny. Massaging increases blood circulation and stimulates the oil glands to secret more sebum.

Always apply sunscreen lotion when stepping out in the sun. Avoid smoking, as it makes the skin more dry. Though self caring methods are effective in keeping the dry skin conditions under control, but sometimes it becomes necessary to seek medical guidance when the symptoms do not show any improvement or other problems like patchiness or uncontrollable itching, or eczema etc occurs. Beauty masks for Dry Skin Mix together honey with olive oil and one table spoon of curd. Apply it on your face and leave for 5-7 minutes. Wash it away. Daily application of this mask will keep your face and skin smooth and moist.

Take yolk of one egg and add honey, aloe vera extract and rose water to it. Apply it thrice a week.

Just add 2-3 drops of olive oil with your body lotion and then apply it. This will work for a longer time than your moisturizer can alone work.

Dry Skin Brushing - 5 Reasons to Do it Everyday
By Nicole Haas

Dry skin brushing offers many health benefits for you and your skin. It is a time honored practice that is quickly re-gaining popularity in the world of all natural skin care.

Important Reasons to Include Dry Skin Brushing (DSB) Into Your Daily Routine...

Stimulates Circulation - DSB can strengthen blood vessels that keep organs, including skin, healthy and functional.

Exfoliates Skin - Rubs away dead skin cells that leave skin dull looking and clogs pores. This also stimulates new cell growth.

Detoxifies - by cleaning the lymphatic system. Many believe that dry skin brushing signals the lymph system to release toxic build up in the body.

Cellulite Reduction - What's better than this! By improving the health and appearance of skin, cellulite should become noticeably less visible. Improving circulation also helps maintain strong connective tissue, which in turn, wards off the formation of additional cellulite.

Improves the Immune System - because DSB delivers all of the above benefits it is thought to improve general health and well-being.

While dry skin brushing is not complicated there are some guidelines to follow. To get the most from this all natural skin care practice...

Use a natural bristle brush. - Synthetic versions can be too rough on the skin.

Do not perform on wet skin. - The best time to dry skin brush is before a bath or shower. This way old dead skin cells are washed away.

Use broad strokes. - Try to use long, sweeping strokes or large circular ones. Always move toward the heart to promote best circulation.

Go lightly.- Especially when first starting this practice, it is important not to apply too much pressure. As skin becomes accustomed you may wish to brush a bit more vigorously.

Not for the face. - Dry skin brushing is good for all over body conditioning, excluding the face. The skin here is too delicate and thin for this exercise.

Common sense plays a role with any all natural skin care regimen. If you have inflamed, bruised or sensitive skin, do not use dry skin brushing on these areas. If it feels "wrong" don't continue.
The benefits of dry skin brushing go far beyond just looking great. As with all good things that are worthwhile, it does take some effort. Generally, people see and feel optimum results when done on a daily basis for about 5 months. However, you may start to see a difference in your skin in as little as a few weeks. Especially, if your skin is dry.

It should take about 3-5 minutes to dry skin brush if done on a regular basis. Considering all the benefits, this is a small investment of time well worth spending.

Happy Brushing!

A Healthy and Safe Sunscreen
By Carrie Lauth

The summer months are upon us and so are days spent outside at barbeques, picnics and at the pool and beach. These mean lots of sun exposure and the risk of sunburns. While it is true that too much sun can cause skin damage and sunburns, moderate sunshine is beneficial to our health. Sunshine is our best source of Vitamin D, which actually reduces the risk of certain cancers and many other diseases. It is important to get some moderate sunlight daily but avoid getting burned.

In order to avoid sunburns, we must take certain precautions. Many of us, including children can only be out in direct sunlight for about 10 to 15 minutes before feeling some effects of burning, while others can safely be out 20 to 30 minutes. A moderate exposure to sunlight on a daily basis is beneficial to your health and that of your child. You can minimize exposure to the sun during the hours of 10am and 3pm, when the sun is the hottest. If you must go out during these times, be sure to use proper protection.

The best protection is wearing a wide-brimmed hat and natural fiber clothing that will protect the skin, but quite honestly we do not usually use this type of protection. What is most commonly used is sunscreen. But are sunscreens necessarily safe for us? Parents are known for lathering large amounts of sunscreen on their children on a daily basis during the summer months. But sunscreen can be very toxic and it is definitely not something you want to liberally apply to your child's skin on a daily basis.

Some common ingredients found in sunscreens are suspected carcinogens. The ingredients include but not limited to triethanolamine, diethanolamine (TEA, DEA), padimate-o, octyl dimethyl PABA, benzophenone, oxybenzone, homosalate, salicylates and parabens. Many studies have been done and have shown that some of the more popular sunscreens can contribute to cancer due to their mutagenic and free radical generating properties. But one of the most disturbing findings is that many commonly used sunscreens contain chemicals that have strong estrogenic actions. What does that mean? It means that it can interfere with normal sexual development and can cause reproductive problems. Some studies have also shown that chemicals found in sunscreens can be absorbed into the bloodstream. The longer the chemicals are left on the skin the more absorption into the bloodstream.

But there is no need to fear; there is a healthy alternative to the popular and dangerous sunscreens on the market. Zinc oxide is a mineral that provides complete UVB and UVA protection. It also has anti-inflammatory properties and is considered a safe sunscreen. The only drawback is the strong white residue left on the skin when applied. There are safe zinc oxide sunscreens available that also do not turn your skin white. Be sure to check the label, for nano-sized particles of zinc oxide, which some products are using to avoid the skin from turning white, although still in the testing stages, it is not clear on the safety of the nano-sized particles.

There are organic products on the market that do not contain nano particles, and are completely safe to use on adults as well as children. As always use caution when using chemicals and be sure to read the labels to not only keep your family safe from chemical effects but from sunburns as well.

If you want to find natural products for your family, be sure to check out http://www.naturalmomproducts.com/ - We offer product reviews and information from moms like you

Best Skin Care Beauty Tips That Are Right For You
By Mei Susanti

One of the most important skin care beauty tips for a healthy and youthful look is to treat your skin right. People are spending thousands of dollars every year on beauty products with a hope to improve and maintain a beautiful skin. No matter how much you spend, the most important thing is to make sure you purchase the product that is right for your skin type.

It is also important to have a good cleansing, moisturizing, and exfoliating regimen to help your skin maintain its elasticity and texture. If you have the time, you can also learn how to take care of your skin by reading up on various skin care beauty tips on Internet or browsing the health magazines. Finding the right products for your skin is not that hard these days as all these resources are available online and in major bookstores.

Note that using the right products is only half of the solution, the other more important half is having a healthy diet. It is through a proper diet and nutrition that you could help improve and maintain the healthy look of your skin. If you have ever had a day where you have eaten a lot of chocolate or candies, only to discover some pimples popping out on your face in the morning, then you would be able to understand the importance of proper diet.

The skin is the largest and important organ in our body. It plays an important function of purging toxins out of our body through sweat. If you eat something that is unhealthy, not only your body will suffer but also your skin. When your body is unhealthy, it will reflect on your skin. So eating a healthy and well-balanced diet is important not only for your skin but the entire body as well.

Another useful skin care beauty tip to remember is making sure that your body has sufficient amount of vitamins. Eating foods that are rich in vitamin A, C & F is as important as your daily cleansing and moisturizing routine. These vitamins not only help your skin maintain a healthy complexion, but also help the rest of your body. Besides eating foods, these vitamins can also be obtained through supplements.

In conclusion, the best skin care beauty tips are therefore the combination of healthy diet, good cleansing routine and the right skin care products.

Moisturizers Classification
By Clarita Milles

Dry skin can be very sensitive due to its low sebum levels. As dry skin can't retain moisture, it use to have a parched look. Unless you apply a skin cream or moisturizer, it feels uncomfortable and very tight after being washed. When skin is extremely dry and dehydrated, signs like chapping and cracking appear.

Dryness is exacerbated by extremes of temperature, wind and air-conditioning, all of which cause the skin to chap, flake and feel tight. This kind of skin is closely drawn over bones. It has a dull look, specially on the cheeks and around the eyes. There may be tiny expression lines on these places and at the comers of the mouth.

Causes

- The oil glands do not supply enough lubrication to the skin. As a result, the skin becomes dehydrated.
- Conditions like eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, or seborrhea.
- Dry skin can be caused by a genetic condition.
- Poor diet. Nutritional deficiencies, especially A and B vitamins deficiencies, can also contribute to dry skin.
- External factors like exposure to wind, sun, chemicals, cold, or cosmetics, or excessive bathing with abrasive soaps.
- Skin gets exposed to the elements specially in winter.

Dry skin could also be from: - Low thyroidal activity. - Serious skin complications can arise for people with diabetes. - Some drugs, including diuretics, antispasmodics, and antihistamines, can contribute to dry skin.

How to care for dry skin

Avoid the use of tap water when cleansing dry skin. The skin can be strongly dried up by the deposits. Hot water must be avoided at all times. Use mineral water to freshen your face. The rough texture of a washcloth can irritate your skin, so avoid them. In the morning, apply a spray of mineral water on your skin misted on with a plant sprayer. Lightly pat dry.

Dry skin requires regular stimulation with massage, plenty of thorough but gentle cleansing and generous quantities of oil and moisturizing products. It also needs extra careful protection.
Cleansing dry skin with soap and water not only removes grime but also the natural oil that defend the skin. A moisturizer gives you a soft, moist look by increasing the water content of the outer layers of the skin.

Use neutral-pH, non-detergent dry skin products to cleanse your skin. Commercial soaps must be avoided. And you must be gently whenever you touch your face. Double-cleanse using a cream, leaving a light, thin trace of it over the skin after the second cleansing.

Follow a shower or a bath with a light application of baby oil. Use a home-made nourishing cream to massage your face every night before going to sleep. Apply the cream generously in the areas nearby the eyes where crows feet and tiny lines are born.

Avoid coming in contact with strongly alkaline soaps and detergents like powders and washing sodas which contain highly drying and alkaline components.

Applying a thin film of air-excluding moisturizer after moistening with water restores the suppleness of the dry skin.

Acne scars can now be easily alleviated thanks to a new skin care product elaborated with a non-allergenic, non-irritant biological compound that rejuvenates your skin.

How to Choose the Right Sunscreen For You
By Jay Brachfeld, M.D.

Beach season is officially in full swing. As a dermatologist, that means I am fielding a slew of questions about proper sun protection. Research studies have proven time and time again that sun exposure causes 90 percent of all skin cancers. Since hiding out indoors is the last thing you want to do on a beautiful sunny day, it is necessary to become acquainted with your sunscreen options.

If you haven't been shopping for sunscreen in the past year or two, you may be overwhelmed by the many choices filling store shelves. In the past, your biggest decision was about the SPF or sun protection factor on the bottle. SPF is still an important number, but it is not necessarily the best way to choose the sunscreen that is right for you.

Physical Blockers

There are two basic ways that sunscreen can block the sun's harmful UV rays-physical and chemical blockers. Physical blockers work by forming an invisible barrier that reflects rays away from your skin. The active ingredients in physical blockers are titanium oxide or zinc oxide.
These ingredients are more likely to appear in formulas labeled, "water-resistant" or "sweat-resistant." While these labels indicate that the product will remain effective longer during swimming or sweating, no sunscreen is truly waterproof. Always reapply after swimming, sweating or toweling off.

Sunscreens with physical blockers are often preferred by people with oily skin because they are non-greasy. In the past, people stayed away from physical blockers to avoid the pale, whitish tint that was often created by the active ingredients. The new formulas on the market have minimized this effect to create physical blockers that are both comfortable and effective. Some favorite brands are Banana Boat, Blue Lizard and the line of sunscreens by Shiseido. If you want a sunscreen that doesn't feel oily, or you are very active outdoors, this type is right for you.

Chemical Blockers

Chemical blockers work by absorbing UV rays before they penetrate the skin's surface. With the approval of new active ingredients by the FDA, sunscreen manufacturers in the U.S. now have access to formulas that have been popular in European lines for quite some time. Mexoryl is a new ingredient used to create formulas that feel lightweight and less greasy on skin. Look for it in brands like Lancome and L'Oreal. Other active ingredients in chemical sunscreens are benzophenones, salicylates, cinnamates and avobenzone (also called Parsol 1789).

Some manufacturers are creating new sunscreen technologies that makes these active ingredients more stable, which means better protection. Neutrogena's line of sunscreens offer long-lasting protection and many of their products are "dry-touch" formulas, designed for everyday wear. Browse these new products, and you will find sunscreens that double as moisturizers and contain antioxidants to fight aging. If you want a comfortable, multi-tasking sunscreen that feels elegant on the skin, this is the type for you.

A Number Isn't Everything

On your sunscreen shopping spree, you will also notice higher SPFs than we've had in the past.
The new stabilizing technologies and better formulas mean you can wear an SPF 85 product that feels comfortable all day. If you know you might not always reapply sunscreen as often as you should, buy the highest SPF available. With imperfect use, the SPF 85 may have the effect of an SPF 45, which is still a reasonable level of protection.

The best advice I have for my patients about choosing sunscreen is to pick one that you'll wear everyday. If a sunscreen feels greasy or you don't like the scent, you will be less likely to reapply every two hours-if you apply it at all! Therefore, it is worthwhile to find a product you like. With the vast array of choices available at any drugstore, I guarantee you will find a product to suit your needs. In fact, I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to find a sunscreen that you enjoy wearing as much as your favorite face cream.

Aloe Vera and It's Wound Healing Properties
By James Woolley

If you have ever suffered any cuts or wounds, which you inevitably will have done at some point, you will know that they can often take quite a long time to heal properly. However there is a way you can speed up the healing process and that's by using aloe vera.

Aloe vera has been hailed by many people as a miracle plant because of it's many health benefits. People have been using this plant to treat the skin for thousands of years, and it's even said that famous historical figures such as Alexander the Great and Cleopatra used aloe vera because of it's unique healing qualities.

So why is aloe vera so effective at healing cuts and wounds?

Well the first reason is because aloe vera is an excellent moisturising agent. For a wound to heal properly it has been shown that wounds need plenty of moisture, as opposed to dry dressings which often cause pain and disruption when removed. Aloe vera has excellent moisturising qualities whether it is applied directly onto the skin through a cream or a gel, or whether ingested through pills or juices, for example, and allowed to work from within the body.

Another reason why aloe vera is so effective is because it has anti-inflammatory properties which means that it will quickly reduce the inflammation that may appear around any cuts or wounds. This is an important part of the healing process and will certainly shorten the time it takes to heal, and will help to reduce any pain you may have in the meantime.

Finally aloe vera, as well as containing many essential nutrients, has been shown to increase cell proliferation and blood flow to the skin, helping to cleanse the skin of any germs. Additionally if the skin wounds are linked to any specific medical condition, then aloe vera, if consumed internally, can be used to boost the immune system and fight against any further recurrences of the condition.

So overall it is clear that aloe vera is a highly effective treatment for any cuts and wounds you may have, as it will reduce inflammation and speed up the healing process. It should also be pointed out that aloe vera is also an effective treatment for many other skin conditions such as acne, eczema and psoriasis, and is even used to reduce the pain caused by sunburn and for anti-ageing purposes, so if you haven't yet used aloe vera on your skin, why not give it a try?

Crystals - The Best Deodorant For Sensitive Skin?
By Johanna Lumi

Alarmingly, more people seem to be sensitive towards body care products and especially regarding deodorants. Spending more for a brand name or a specific deodorant for sensitive skin doesn't always make any real difference as most deodorants on the market are made of unnatural, unhealthy chemicals that can be very harsh on the body. Many high street products are based on aluminium, which many people find very irritating. Symptoms usually are red, itchy and painful armpits which might even develop to eczema. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Getting a deodorant for sensitive skin doesn't need to be a daunting task as there are products which are 100% natural and chemical free!

Crystal deodorant, the natural alternative to mainstream deodorants has been used centuries in the Far and Middle East for its natural deodorising properties. The alum formed from non toxic minerals is used in the crystal deodorants are in the salt form, not the metallic form. The crystal is applied to wet skin where a thin film sits on the surface. The molecular structure is too big to pass into the body, this means the pores do not become blocked as with antiperspirant use, but rather allow the body's natural process to occur simply but without the odour that's associated.
Crystals are just fantastic to use as they contain no harmful chemicals. They are simply hypoallergenic and fragrance free, and contain no artificial colouring or ingredients. There is, quite simply, no better way to stay odour free naturally. Also, they won't leave any marks on your clothes. Crystals are definitely the deodorant for sensitive skin as there is nothing in them which might irritate the skin.

Ideally, deodorants should be applied to the skin directly after you've bathed. In that way, the bacteria that cause odour have not yet had the chance to form on the skin, and the barrier that our deodorant provides is at its peak effectiveness.

The best part with crystal deodorants, next to being the healthiest choice, is that they really do represent astounding value for money. The sprays usually last up to a month as a commercial product, but a crystal stone will last for months or even years, depending on care and use.
Getting a specific deodorant for sensitive skin couldn't be easier!

Would you like to know more about chemicals in cosmetics and products which are safe to buy? Please visit http://www.chemical-free.info/

Sunscreen Isn't Enough - Protect Skin With Sun Protection Clothing
By J Edmond Souaid

Every year, millions of people head outdoors as soon as the weather warms up. Sports, family gatherings and even work can take us outside and into the potentially harmful rays of the sun. If we don't keep ourselves protected from the sun, we may end up with skin damage, eye damage and even harmful skin cancer.

Sunscreen is a great tool to help prevent sun damage, but it is not enough on its own. When you spend any amount of time in the sun, it is essential to wear protective clothing and sunscreen to minimize the effects of the sun's ultraviolet rays. While most of us are familiar with sunscreens and how to choose the right sunscreen for different types of skin, not many of us know how to pick out UV protective clothing.

Choosing the Right Sun Protection Clothing

The first thing to keep in mind when picking out sun protection clothing is how its effectiveness is measured. Sunscreen is measured by sun protection factor. This number measures the amount of time that it will take for exposed skin to get red. Eye protection factor is the rating that establishes the amount of eye protection provided from eyewear. Sun protection clothing, however, is measured in ultraviolet protection factor. This number measures how much ultraviolet radiation can penetrate the fabric and reach the skin. This rating is based on the weight of the material, the tightness of the weave and how much skin the clothing protects.

Some fabrics have a naturally high ultraviolet protection factor, while others are treated with special chemicals to increase the amount of sun protection they offer. Because of this, some sun protection clothing can lose its effectiveness over time. Replacing your sun protection clothing often ensures that it is effectively blocking harmful rays.

The higher the ultraviolet protection factor number, the more protection you will get from that garment. An ultraviolet protection factor of 10 provides significantly less protection than a garment with a factor of 50. When purchasing sun protection clothing, look for the highest ultraviolet protection factor available. Also try to purchase only sun protection clothing that is certified by the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency. The ARPNSA is the world leader in ultraviolet protection testing.

How to Protect Your Entire Family

When you go out into the sun, it is especially important to protect kids' skin. The number of peeling sunburns experienced during childhood is directly linked to the risk of skin cancer later in life. Sun protective swimwear and sunsuits are available for all ages and can help to prevent some of those childhood burns. Sun hats are another great way to keep kids' tender skin protected from the damaging rays.

Adults have slightly different needs depending on the types of activities that they will be doing in the sun. When fabrics become wet or stretched, they can often lose a great deal of their protection. Look for men's and women's sun protection clothing that is meant for the activities you'll be engaging in. Surfing, swimming and lying on the beach will all require different types of UV protective clothing.

Enjoy Your Summer

Once you know that your family is protected from sunburns and the related skin complications, you are freer to enjoy your outdoor activities. Shop for and buy sun protection clothing for the entire family early in the season and spend the rest of the summer lounging, playing and enjoying the unique sensations that only summer can provide.

J Edmond have been working in the unique concept sun protection clothing industry for several years. The main aim is to raise awareness of the sun' UV radiation and it's effect on human skin. Find out more how you can protect your family and enjoy your outdoor activities.

How to Get Rid of Poison Ivy
By Tim Webber

Poison Ivy: How it Works

Poison ivy causes a rash in 90% of the people who come into contact with it. The rash is caused by an oil on the surface of the leaves, urushiol, coming in contact with any part of the body or even clothing. The same oil is carried by sumac and poison oak. The rash itches like crazy and can be spread by the hands if it has been touched (it cannot be spread by scratching the rash, though scratching can create an open wound that could become infected). It can be spread by coming into contact with shoes or clothing that have brushed against it. In fact, the oil can even become airborne through mowing or burning.

It's pretty potent stuff. It takes an extraordinarily small amount to create a rash - one billionth of a gram, a nanogram. And it can stick and stay active on any surface for up to five years.
Frequent hand washing is a good defense against its spread, and any clothing that is even suspected of contacting it should be laundered immediately.

Is there any defense against it? I once knew a fellow who was attempting to build immunity by ingesting poison ivy leaves, starting with a tiny portion, and working up to bigger amounts in the fashion of homeopathy. I never found out the result, but I do know he lived through it - But don't you try this!

Poison Ivy Rashes and Treatments

Urushiol oil is an irritant, not really poison. There are no known fatalities from urushiol rashes, though people who are immuno-compromised could develop some form of dermatitis. It is contagious only in the sense that one person who has contacted the urushiol oil can spread it to others through contact. There are no contagions involved.

Poison Ivy Symptoms

As for treatment, the only case of an emergency which requires immediate hospital care is when a person with higher-than-average sensitivity comes into contact with it. These people make up between 10 and 20 percent of the allergic population. They break out in a rash in 4 to 12 hours instead of the normal 24 to 48. Their eyes may swell shut and blisters may erupt on their skin. They are usually given a shot of corticosteroids to bring the swelling down.

Poison Ivy Cures

Rashes can be treated at home through such folk remedies as taking a bath in water to which baking soda or Epsom salts have been added. Poultices made of half oatmeal, half baking soda are also said to be effective. Over-the-counter commercial treatments include Caladryl, Benadryl, Desitin, and good old-fashioned, cheap calamine lotion.

Poison Ivy Pictures: Identification

The only effective defense known to us is to be able to recognize it and stay away from it. Poison ivy is easily identified. It's low-growing, seldom higher than two feet, and bears branches of three green, shiny leaves:

Healthy Looking Skin in Ten Days Or Less
By Jean Simmer

Ten days is enough to achieve that dramatic result you've always wanted for your skin. There are a myriad of available treatments that can help you no matter what your skin type is. Skin usually takes two weeks or more to replenish itself, but helping your skin now can do wonders even before it completely sheds the older, top layer.

Different treatments can be utilized in getting that healthy skin within days. Complied from different experts, these three basic steps are all you need to make your skin healthier in 10 days or less. Religiously following these simple steps can not only rid you of your zits, but also generally improve the overall health and tone of even the most problematic skin.

1) Start with Oral Vitamin Treatments:

Oral treatments have proven to be very effected in improving overall skin condition. To achieve a healthier glow and an even complexion within days, try taking Vitamin A and Niacin supplements. Taking 50,000 units of Vitamin A and 100 mg of Niacin can greatly improve your skin in as little as three days.

For people who suffer from severe acne, these supplements can help a great deal because they are naturally used by our body to fight bacterial infections in our skin, and more importantly, Vitamin A can help our skin in regulating the production of sebum or oil - and we all know that the overproduction of skin oil is the main cause of acne. Niacin can also help in fighting infection so it really helps in keeping your face clean and pimple free.

Treatment Period: supplements should be taken daily for at least a month, then skip one month, and begin another cycle of treatment.

Visible Results in: as little as 3 days. Dermatologists and Acne-prone people swear of its efficacy.
By the end of the month-long treatment, once can have immaculate skin, but in as little as three days, people have experienced a general improvement in skin tone and the disappearance of pimples.

2) Find the Right Cleanser for your Skin Type

One of the most important things to consider in achieving a healthier skin is finding the right cleanser for your skin type. People have different kinds of skin: oily, dry, combination, acne-prone, etc - and they all have different needs in cleansing and moisturizing. It is important to find a gentle, oil-free cleanser that can be used as often as needed.

For people with oily skin, experts suggest washing at least 2 times a day and once before bedtime. Harsh soaps may seem to dry pimples faster, but they don't really help in improving the health of your skin. Harsh cleansers can strip away your skin's natural moisture barrier that makes it healthy and protects it from debris and bacteria.

Treatment Period: Should be used as often as needed, especially for people with oily skin.

Visible Results in: a week or more. Adjusting to a new cleanser can take some time depending on the skin type. If you've previously used a stronger cleanser, switching to a gentler one might make your skin oilier as it was used to compensating for the drying effects or the stronger cleanser by overproducing sebum. Remember that a gentle cleaner is needed to help your skin maintain a healthy and even glow.

3) Watch What You Eat

Changing our diet can produce marvelous effects on our skin. An all-fruit diet is amazingly helpful in clearing acne in a matter or weeks. If the health benefits can't persuade you to go natural, then consider the recent findings of scientists that vegetarians have shown lesser wrinkles and susceptibility to sagging facial skin compared to people who eat meat.

Eating at least 3 servings or fruit and vegetables a day can help you feel healthier inside out.
Fiber, which is found in almost all fruits and vegetables, can help reduce the cholesterol content of our blood, and it is also associated with cleansing our bodies leading to healthier skin complexion. What we eat can really show in our skin, and making the switch ASAP can help you become the more beautiful you.

Treatment Period: forever.

This is a lifestyle change that can help your body and skin cope with stress and the harmful effects of pollution and dirt. Fruits and vegetables are rich in anti-oxidants that help eliminate free-radicals that cause us to age faster. Switching to an all-natural diet can help in as little as ten days but the best thing one can get from it is the overall health benefits and the slowing of the ageing process.

Visible Results in: a week

Vegetables and fruits can greatly help in the elimination of waste products. Eating more everyday can regulate your bowel movement and improve skin texture. Amazing results can be very visible after 3 months on switching to an all-natural diet. Alicia Silverstone, one of the Hollywood celebrities endorsing such a diet swears she feels healthier now and says her skin's complexion and tone has become unbelievably healthy.

How to Choose Sunscreen
By Joseph Devine

Though many people are aware of the importance of wearing sunscreen when going outdoors for a long period of time, most are unaware or uneducated about how sunscreen actually works, what it protects against, and what the difference is between various brands and protection ratings.

Protection Levels - SPF and More

The most common rating system for sunscreens in the United States is the sunburn protection factor or SPF system. SPF is a measure of how well a particular sunscreen can prevent a person from getting sunburned. Theoretically, an SPF number indicates how many times more radiation a person's skin can sustain with sunscreen than without. For example, a sunscreen rated SPF 15 would allow a person to stay in the sun 15 times as long without being burned.

Of course, in practice, a host of other factors can influence the effectiveness of virtually any sunscreen. Skin absorption or contact with water, for example, can essentially remove sunscreen from the skin surface, reducing its effectiveness over time.

SPF ratings also fail to take into account the fact that there are two types of harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun - UVA and UVB. While UVB rays are known to cause sunburn and increase the risk of developing squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and basal cell carcinoma (BCC), two common types of skin cancer, UVA rays cause tanning, and may cause the DNA damage which leads to malignant melanoma, a rarer, but far more deadly form of skin cancer. The bad news?

While most sunscreens provide significant amounts of protection against UVB rays, a large majority provide little or no protection against UVA rays. Furthermore, since SPF is measured against the occurrence of sunburn, it gives no information on how effectively a product works in the UVA spectrum.

Possible Risks of Sunscreen

According to several studies, while sunscreen is undoubtedly able to prevent sunburns and SCC/BCC skin cancers, it appears to actually increase the risk of developing malignant melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, which accounts for nearly three-fourths of all skin cancer-related deaths. Several reasons for this have been suggested, ranging from irresponsible consumer usage (i.e., mistaking SPF protection for UVA protection) to absorption of potentially harmful chemical components.

Eye Wrinkles Or Fondly Called Crow's Feet
By Bruce Kinkade

Crow's feet are usually the first sign of eye wrinkles to show as we age. These annoying reminders of aging are mainly caused by sun exposure. I began to notice 'laugh lines' sooner than my two year younger sister did, and she commented, "See, that's what you get from all that grinning, you should be an old sour puss like me!"

You can minimize the appearance of existing crow's feet by moisturizing the area with an eye cream that contains glycolic acid. Alpha hydroxy products work wonders on eye wrinkles.
Glycolic acid encourages wrinkled cells to regenerate. Now a new line of clay cosmetics made from Volcanic Ash Clay claims to be a viable alternative.

Crow's feet appear only after sunlight has begun to destroy the skins elastic and collagen fibers. Collagen is the protein that gives our skin elasticity. The best way to prevent crow's feet is to use a sunscreen around your eyes. Dot it gently around the eyes, and reapply every few hours.
Dermatologists recommend using fragrance-free sunscreens in the eye area due to fragrances causing irritation to delicate tissue.

The skin around the eyes is thinner and contains fewer oils and sweat glands, making the area prone to dehydration. This leads to wrinkles, and dark circles. Skin products containing retin-A help increase collagen production, which strengthens the skin's structure and reduces visible fine lines.

Make certain you drink plenty of fluids. Limit drinking alcoholic beverages because alcohol causes dehydration, which is unhealthy for the condition of your skin. Water plays a vital role in maintaining your glowing complexion. Medical experts advise a minimum of eight glasses a day. The outside of our skin is waterproof so we need to hydrate from the inside!

Give up cigarette smoking and reap in many long lasting rewards. Spending a lot of time in a smoke-filled environment, makes you squint- causing eye wrinkles. Avoiding tobacco smoke helps keep crow's feet from your face. Smoking activates premature skin aging among other costly side effects.

Everyone enjoys the sun's rays benefits of a healthy looking tan but you should avoid over exposure to the sun. Sunlight damages our skin tissues and causes eye wrinkles. Ultra violet rays from the sun are a danger because they penetrate into our skin's surface.

Eat the proper foods, including five servings of vegetables and at least one serving of fruit daily.
Vegetables and fruits in your diet provide antioxidant properties that halt the oxidation process responsible for crow's feet. Olive oil, soybeans, nuts, and whole grains are rich in antioxidants.

Take a multi-vitamin supplement to boost your body's antioxidant defense to combat crow's feet. This protects against harm caused by free radicals, which is the cause of loss in skin's elasticity, which leads to eye wrinkles. Our skin loses natural moisture and collagen as we age.

My grandmother, even in her eighties, did not have many eye wrinkles on her beautiful face. I unfortunately did not inherit this trait from her. She ate a much healthier diet and stayed out of the sun. There are two beauty secrets, I am happy to pass along to fight crow's feet, moisturize and sunscreen.
