Vitamins Boost Anti Aging Skin Care
By David J Barnard

One of the most successful areas of health and beauty is Anti-ageing skin care products, and there is nothing wrong with wanting to continue looking young as you get older, in fact it is quite a healthy aim. We achieve this with beauty products that synthesize the production of the protein collagen, collagen makes up approximately 25 percent of the total protein in the skin.
This category of skin products is in fact related to another group of everyday products that help reduce the signs of aging, these are known as antioxidants which remove toxins from the body.
Probably the best known of these anti-oxidants is vitamin C although no-one really knows just how much we should have each day. Vitamin C formulated skin care treatments suffer with a particular problem of oxidizing on contact with the air which causes a problem for users and manufacturers.

More stable skin care treatments are now available that are almost as efficient and actually cost less to manufacture. These alternative products are not as effective as vitamin C but vitamin E and lipoic acid are anti-oxidants and are now being used.

Vitamin E is an antioxidant and component of human blood whose purpose is to help increase the body's immune system against diseases including cancer. Lipoic acid which is found inside every cell of the body helps generate the energy that keeps us alive and functioning. It is known to combat the signs of ageing very effectively by reversing skin damage caused by the ageing process.

Phytochemicals aren't produced by the body but are extracted from a number of plants and used in many anti-ageing skin care products to combat the signs of ageing. A secondary but more important use of phytochemicals is the effect they have on the prevention of breast, prostate and colon cancers.

For some time now it has also been known that the vitamins B5, B6 and B12 also have anti-ageing skin care properties. The use of anti-ageing skin care products is a huge scientific field to research and has far greater potential than just producing goods that reduce the visible signs of age.

Whilst a great deal has been learned about this subject, it is only the tip of the iceberg and more long term effective methods need to be discovered to reverse or slow down the effects of time. Hopefully, these challenges will get resolved in due course and better and cheaper anti-ageing skin care products will be produced.

In some respects the real way ahead lies in our own hands as there are many things we can do to reduce the signs of ageing naturally. Natural methods are known, but few people actually follow them, what proportion of the population actually eats healthily, takes plenty of exercise, drink sufficient water and obtain restful and regular sleep?
