Hey, Where Did These Varicose Veins Come From Anyway?

By Patricia Zelkovsky

If you have varicose veins, odds are you have already spent a lot of time and money in trying to find ways to get rid of them and wondered where the heck they came from. While there are many options available, in the end, you may just be stuck with them. For those of us who don't have these problems, but are concerned that we may at some point in the future, we could benefit from learning about the causes, so that we may take action to help prevent them from forming.

There has been a lot of debate in the medical world over what exactly causes varicose veins, with the only conclusion being that they are caused by damaged or defective valves in the veins themselves. The valves in our veins act to keep blood flowing in one direction, so that blood can't flow back into the vein from the same direction in which it left, keeping the blood in a constant flow to the heart. Some people inherit their valve problems from their parents and grand parents, while others are caused by their lifestyle. When blood flows back into the veins due to bad valves, it causes pressure to build up inside the vein, eventually leading to varicose veins.
There are certain situations that can make you more prone to developing this malady, so if you are concerned about this issue, please keep reading. One of the more common aggravating factors of the weakening of the valves is pregnancy. When you are pregnant, your body increases its normal blood volume, to help sustain the growing fetus. This extra blood puts added strains on the veins and valves in the body, especially in the legs and stomach. And you thought that gaining 25 pounds during pregnancy and the pain of child birth was bad enough- now you've got blue legs. Wearing support socks and maternity support hose while you are pregnant may help alleviate the problem.

People who have to stand up for long periods of time are often more prone to bulging veins as well. Try to alternate long periods of standing with sit-breaks if at all possible, and again, talk to your doctor about wearing support devices, such as support hose, that may help. What may surprise you is that sitting for long periods of time is worse for your legs than standing, so get up and walk around when ever you can.

Being overweight may also eventually lead to problem veins, so try to maintain your ideal body weight, and eat a healthy diet, low fat.

Straining muscles may also lead to varicose veins, including straining caused by constipation, kidney problems, prolonged, chronic cough, etc.

In some cases, people who have had surgery on their legs, or suffered any kind of major leg injury, such as in a car accident, may also be more prone to develop vein problems.

The older you are, the better your chances are of developing varicose veins. It isn't an idea we all like to think about on a regular basis, but much like getting gray hair, or wrinkles, but it is bound to happen sooner or later! Oh, and men, if you think that this is a "womans" issue, think again. It's a 60/40 split with women only having a 20 percent higher chance than men to develop them.

By taking the time to better understand the causes of varicose veins, you will be able to take action now, which may inhibit their development in the future!

Patricia is a health focused content author. If you suffer from varicose veins you may want to know that there are surgical and non-surgical options available to help ease them. For more Varicose Vein Information visit http://www.squidoo.com/varicose-vein-treatment

How do Face Masks Work and Help the Skin?

By Ruth Tan

Our skin has a natural protective barrier of fats that creates a nice smooth waterproof layer to keep the moisture in and foreign substances out. The skin’s ability to stay hydrated is an important factor in its ability to maintain softness, suppleness and elasticity. Unfortunately, the drying effect of the cold weather or the air con, the damaging effect of the harsh sun and pollution from the environment can cause our skin to look fatigue, dull and blotchy. And combined this with the aging of the skin, the lack of sleep and our hectic stressful lifestyle, our skin can become wrinkled, flaky and look older than it should. In addition, the use of makeup on our face also could clog the pores of the skin, preventing carbon dioxide inside our body from coming out and fresh oxygen from entering the skin. This causes the skin to lose its glow and attractiveness. Facial masks are an ultimate nutrient delivery system in anti aging skin care. They are much thicker than a moisturizer or topical treatment, and because of its extended application time and the inner warmth generated, pores easily open and the penetration of nutrients into the skin occurs more efficiently.

Basically all face masks have some kind of a cleansing function; they remove excess oil, environmental debris and pollutants much more gently than astringents, toners or scrubs. Various anti aging skin care ingredients are used in the face masks, depending on the skin type and to some extent on the availability of materials. Clays form an important constituent of many face masks as they are excellent absorbing agents. Gums and polymers are added to lend sticking properties to the clays. They help to remove dirt, sebum, and dead skin so that the skin looks clean, soft and youthful.

Some facials are also meant to exfoliate, clarify and unclog pores. They work by causing an abrasive action against the skin that removes the top layer of dead cells from the skin and accumulated dirt, leaving behind fresh healthy-looking skin. Regular exfoliation can reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkle and improve the clarity, tone and radiance of the complexion. Some facial masks contain antioxidants to protect against free radicals. Facial masks for dry skin hold water in the skin, making it softer and more flexible. Facial masks for oily skin often contain natural fruit extracts and hydrating marine extracts. These oil-free facial masks peel away dead surface skin cells and refine the pores.

Applying a facial mask once a week helps revitalise the skin and keeps it smooth and youthful. Normally, the face mask is applied on the cleansed skin for about ten to twenty minutes, thereafter, wash the face with lukewarm water and afterwards apply a thin layer of cold-cream or a moisturizer.

Fragrance Skin Care Products Come In Many Varieties

By Dean Forster

Nowadays all branded companies have fragrances and preservatives added into their skin care products to attract more and more consumers. The fragrance added products are more admired and appealing to the customers. Products possessing extra aroma are as pleasing as a lovely floral scent. On the other hand many allergic reactions can occur due to the use of these added fragrance skin care products. Some of the skin care products also contain chemicals and toxin contents which can harm your skin in the long term. Every product has there own pros and cons. When you buy any fragranced skin care product beware about the pros and cons, some of them are detailed here.

The Advantages

The products which have additional fragrance add a better smell to your skin. When you use fragrance products you smell and feel better. When you use fragrance skin care products you smell like a rose garden rather then smelling like you have visited the grandmother's house. Yes of course everybody in the today's world wants to look and feel the best.

There are many varieties and qualities of these products available in the market, so you can easily choose an affordable and suitable skin care product. Some of the fragrance skin care products contain different additive ingredients, but also sometimes they may contain the same active ingredients with a different fragrance. Make sure when you buy the fragrance skin care products you check the ingredients on the packaging so that you don't buy the product with ingredients you are allergic to. Also check that the ingredient used for the fragrance is not toxic.

The Disadvantages

You use skin care products to improve its overall condition. But if you have an allergic reaction then attention must be paid to the ingredients. An allergic reaction is not only painful but also harms your skin. Due to allergic reactions your skin may becomes terrible. So it is better to not use the products which contains allergic ingredients from the outset, providing you know what they are. If you do not do so it is your skin which is going to pay the price. You can read more skin care tips at http://www.pinkpajamafairy.net

In today's competitive market it's very difficult to find out which skin care product may be safe or which may not. Due to competition many companies use smart language to wrap up certain ingredients in their company's product, naming them things as something more generic such as lemon oils or plant oils as oppose to what they specifically are.

So, in today's competitive market scenario when you buy any skin care products think twice and choose the skin care product which suits you the best. Pay a little attention during shopping for the fragrance skin care products and get the best value for your money.

7 Proven Ways To Prevent And Eliminate Wrinkles And Fine Lines

By Christine Kulle-Merlesena

As we get older, everyone wants to prevent and eliminate wrinkles and fine lines from appearing in the first place. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the sun is the major cause of wrinkles. Protecting the skin from the sun is just one way to help prevent wrinkles and fine lines. Below are 7 proven ways to ensure that your skin remains healthy, vibrant, and wrinkle-free for longer and will, without a doubt, slow down the skin aging process.

1. Drink Lots Of Water-Hydrate...Hydrate...Hydrate!

This is probably one of the most important ways to eliminate and prevent wrinkles and fine lines. Drink at least 6-8 glasses of water per day. This is the best way to keep the skin hydrated, soft and looking healthy.

2. Have a Daily Skin Care Rejuvenation Routine which includes sunscreen SPF 15 or higher.

Make sure you have a cosmeceutical skin rejuvenation program in your daily routine--2 times a day. The important take home point here is that you need to use products that will help your skin increase it's cellular renewal process, thereby getting rid of dead skin cells and promoting skin rejuvenation. This includes wearing products with sunscreen included or one you add separately. Make sure your sunscreen has SPF of 15 or higher to prevent free radical damage the sun causes to your skin on a daily basis-even if going out for short periods. In addition, moisturize on a regular daily basis.

3. A Balanced Diet and Daily Exercise is Essential

You should eat a diet full of fresh fruits, vegetables, grains, and fish, as they are high in antioxidants and Vitamins A, B, C, and E. These vitamins in particular combat free radicals which help the skin repair itself and produce enzymes which stabilize collagen production and retain the skin's moisture content.
Daily exercise keeps blood flowing, which brings oxygen to the skin, which is an important ingredient for healthy, wrinkle-free skin.

4. Take Quality Vitamins on a Daily Basis

Be sure to take quality multivitamins on a daily basis especially vitamins A, c,and E. Not all vitamins are created equal. You can refer to the Comparative Guide to Nutritional Medicine by Lyle MacWilliam to compare your vitamins to the Gold Standard of Quality Vitamins.

5. Avoid Sun Exposure or Cover-Up

Up to 80% of skin aging is directly related to sun exposure. Penetrating UVA rays damage the collagen fibers and elastin coils in your skin. Also, avoid sun exposure between 10 am and 3 pm each day when the sun's rays are strongest. Also, wear protective clothing: wide brimmed hats and sunglasses when in the sun.

6. If you are a smoker--Quit Right Now!

Smoking inhibits oxygen from getting to the outer layer of the skin (the epidermis), which causes premature aging. In addition, the motion of smoking over a long period of time can cause fine lines around your mouth. This is exactly what you are trying to avoid!

7. Alcohol Intake should be in Moderation

Alcohol deprives your skin of essential nutrients and may cause your facial blood vessels to become dilated. This can lead to permanent red "spider veins" on women's cheeks and across the nose on men. Avoid drinking alcohol within three hours of bedtime. Alcohol increases the risk for leaks in the capillaries, which allows more water in and causes sagging and puffiness. Also, capillary leakage increases when one is lying down.

Skin Care For Different Skin Type

By Rina Teo

If your skin type is Oily - Use lathering cleanser, followed by toner for oily skin or clarifying lotion. For Moisturiser - Oily skin does not need a moisturiser. During the day, a sunscreen can double up as a day moisturiser. A light oil-free moisturiser may be used at night. As for Protecting - Use a sunscreen for oily skin during the day. If the skin is very oily, a gel formulation may be more appropriate.

If your skin type is

Normal - Use lathering cleanser, followed by regular toner. For Moisturiser - Use light moisturiser during the day. Richer moisturiser during the night. As for Protecting - Use sunscreen during the day.

If your skin type is

Dry - Use non-lathering cleanser. Alternatively, if you like some suds on the face, use a lathering cleanser formulated for dry skin. These usually have added fats so as not to dry the skin. For Dry skin, you can skip the toner step or use a non-alcoholic toner. For Moisturiser - Use a moisturiser day and night. A richer moisturiser may be used at night. As for Protecting - Use a sunscreen during the day.

If your skin type is

Combination - Use a lathering cleanser on T-zone. Followed by regular toner on the T-zone.For Moisturiser - Use oil-free moisturiser to dry areas. For Protecting - Use sunscreen during the day.

If your skin type is

Sensitive - If you prefer some suds, choose a lathering cleanser for sensitive skin. If not, choose a non-lathering or tissue-off cleanser. **Avoid using heavily scented products as they may irritate the skin.Toner - You may skip the toner or use a mild non-alcoholic toner if you must. Avoid heavily scented products. For Moisturiser - Moisturiser for day and night. Avoid heavily scented products. For Protecting - Use sunscreens during the day.

Avoid using heavily scented products.

Eat Right and Moisturize
By Sharon A Bell

A critical step in getting healthy and glowing skin is to eat a balanced diet containing plenty of Vitamins A, C, D and E. And don’t forget the magic word - “MOISTURIZE.”

Vitamins C and E help prevent skin damage from free radicals which can cause visible lines and wrinkles. Vitamin C also helps the body produce and maintain healthy collagen levels. Vitamin A protects us from sun damage together with Vitamins C and D.

Essential fatty acids found in vegetable oils from tuna, salmon, and nuts help nourish and hydrate the skin and give one a glowing complexion. Getting eight hours of sleep every night is also important. So is exercise that improves blood circulation and one’s complexion. A daily 20-minute walk daily can improve your skin.

However, hydrating the skin is the most important part of any skin care routine. Experts say you should look for products that match your skin type - be it dry, oily or a combination of both.
For soft, smooth, supple skin, use a good moisturizer. Consider your skin type and how your skin responds to different skin care products when choosing an appropriate product for you.

There are many different moisturizers for different skin types. Cream moisturizer is the heaviest and thickest of them all and is good for dry skin. People with normal skin can also use cream as a winter moisturizer. A water-based moisturizer is lighter than cream and is best for people with combination to oily skin. It can also serve as a summer moisturizer for persons with normal skin.

Gel is the lightest moisturizer and suits oily skin. It is more solid than cream and is easily absorbed. Oil is a good moisturizer for any skin type. Rose hip oil, in particular, helps heal sunspots, wrinkles and acne scars. Grape seed oil is rich in antioxidants.

Whatever you use, always keep your moisturizer in the fridge. Keeping your moisturizer cool will not only make it stay fresh longer, it will also help freshen your skin and shrink your pores when applied.

Avoid ingredients with odd names or those that only a scientist would understand. The rule of thumb is if you don’t know what it is, don’t use it. You don’t have to be a fall guy for questionable ingredients.

The best moisturizers are those that contain essential oils and pure botanicals like green tea, chamomile and Korean ginseng extract. Rejuvinol comes with these ingredients. Check out http://www.rejuvinol.com for more information.

Dry Skin - Do Vitamin Supplements Really Work?

By Della Franklin

There are a number of different approaches that you can take when it comes to curing dry skin.

You can decrease the amount of times that you shower and turn down your water temperature.

You can increase your fluid intake and purchase a humidifier. Or you may even consider applying lotions and intense moisturizing creams to your skin. But is there anything else that you can do? Is it possible to treat dry skin with a vitamin supplement?

To see if vitamin supplements really cure dry skin, we must first understand how the body nourishes skin and how dry patches occur in the first place. The skin is the body’s largest organ and as such is nourished by blood vessels and the endocrine system. Granted, the skin is a visible organ so it is easy to see why many people try to treat their dry skin merely through a topical approach. But keep in mind that the skin gets nutrients, moisture and vitamins through the internal systems. This is why an internal approach to curing dry skin is so important.

How Do Vitamin Supplements Cure Dry Skin?

As mentioned before, your skin is nourished through the circulatory system. In fact, the majority of your skin’s moisture is produced from the water that you drink. If you become dehydrated (most people are and do not even realize it), your body will start to pull moisture from other parts of the body to help with essential functions. One of the first places where this happens is the skin. This is why it is extremely important to drink plenty of water.

Vitamins can help restore health and beauty to dry skin by providing essential nutrients that your skin needs. Antioxidant vitamins such as Vitamin C and Vitamin E help boost healthy cell reproduction which results in youthful, healthy, hydrated skin. Vitamins also help restore a healthy balance to your entire body which greatly affects the appearance of your skin. If you are tired or sick, your skin is often the first place where this shows.

What Vitamins Work at Curing Dry Skin?

Now that you know what important role that vitamins play in curing your dry skin, you are likely wondering which vitamins work the best. Here is a guide to help you decide which vitamins you should be taking as part of your skin care routine:

* Daily multivitamin – Many dry skin conditions are caused by the lack of essential vitamins which are normally absorbed by the body from the foods that we eat. In many cases, though, a regular diet does not supply all of the vitamins that the body needs. This is where taking a daily multivitamin supplement comes in handy.

* Vitamins A and B – Vitamins A and B are vital for skin hydration. If your body is lacking in either of these vitamins, you may begin to show signs of dry skin. These vitamins are normally found in common foods such as fish and leafy vegetables. If you do not consume enough of these types of foods, you may want to consider taking a supplement.

* Vitamin E – If your skin looks dull and lifeless, a lack of Vitamin E is probably to blame. This vitamin is found in foods like olive oil. Vitamin E is also readily absorbed by the skin so topical treatments containing this vitamin can be effective for treating dull and dry skin.

* Antioxidants – Antioxidants ensure healthy cell reproduction. This results in young, healthy and moist skin. You see, skin is renewed on a continuous basis. Daily your skin is producing new skin cells to take the place of dead cells. When you’re young, these new skin cells are exact replicas of the old ones. As you age, though, the replicas can become mutated resulting in aged and dry skin.

As you can see, there are many vitamins that combat dry skin. Remember, your skin is an outward reflection of what is going on inside your body. You need to take care of your health, eat a proper diet, and drink plenty of water for your skin to look the best that it possibly can.

There are also many health conditions that can affect the appearance of your skin. Be sure to keep medical conditions such as diabetes, thyroid disease and Hodgkin’s disease under control. This will make it much easier to maintain the health of your skin. Dry skin does not have to be a life long or even a seasonal sentence. Simple things like adding vitamins to your diet can do to lot for your dry skin.

Remedies for Dry and Peeling Skin

By Della Franklin

Dry, cracked, peeling, bleeding skin can be extremely painful. Every time you put your dry skin into water it can be an excruciating experience. Clothing chafes, cold air stings, sweat burns; it is just a miserable experience to have raw and peeling skin. In addition to this, cracked and peeling skin is very difficult to cure.

The number one cause of dry and peeling skin is sun damage. Other causes can include environmental factors such as extreme weather, harsh working conditions, and cold air. Your dry skin may even be caused by a medical condition such as hypothyroidism, diabetes, Hodgkin’s disease, and numerous types of skin conditions including eczema and psoriasis.

For the purpose of this article, we will assume that any underlying health conditions are being treated as part of the healing process. If you have not sought medical condition for a particularly troublesome dry skin issue, do so. Your skin condition could be caused by an underlying disease or disorder that needs medical treatment.

Remedies for Sunburned Dry Skin

The number one cause of aging and dry skin is the sun. Despite this grim fact, millions of people fail to protect their skin and suffer sunburn year after year. Sunburn not only causes dry and peeling skin, it also causes wrinkles, sun spots, and skin discolorations. This is why it is so important to protect your skin from the sun each an every time you go outdoors. If you forgot and are now fighting sunburn, here are some remedies for your plight:

* Cold compresses – At the first sign of discomfort, begin applying cold compresses to your burnt and dry skin. Apply cold therapy for 15 minute intervals taking 15 minute breaks in between.

* Vinegar – vinegar is a good home remedy for sunburns. Many people who use it claim that it takes the sting out of the burn.

* Cool shower – Be sure to take plenty of cool showers. Use an exfoliating sponge to remove dead skin cells. This will help prevent the appearance of peeling.

* Aloe Vera – Aloe Vera is great for healing sunburns. Apply Aloe Vera to clean dry skin frequently until all evidence of the burn is gone.

Remedies for Dry Skin Conditions

Many cases of dry cracked skin are caused by skin disorders such as eczema and psoriasis. In severe cases, these skin disorders require prescription medications, but there are some things that you can do to soothe your irritated skin:

* Avoid excess sweat – Excess sweat can irritate these skin disorders and make dry skin more prevalent. Strive to stay cool on hot days. If you are active, take plenty of showers to remove sweat from your skin.

* Wear light clothing – Wearing cool clothing made with light materials can help reduce eczema flare ups and the dry skin associated with them. You should also avoid wearing scratchy materials such as wool. The more you scratch your skin, the more irritated and cracked it will get.

Intense Treatments for Dry Skin

In especially tough cases of peeling and cracked skin, it may be necessary for you to apply several intense treatments to the affected area throughout the day. These treatments includeemollients and salves that are specifically formulated to sooth and heal cracked and peeling skin.

Here are a few more ideas to sooth your dry skin:

* Paraffin wax – Heated paraffin wax can do wonders for cracked dry skin on your hands and feet. The heat associated with the treatment is also ideal for people who suffer from arthritis and joint pain.

* Silicone creams – If your dry skin is caused from frequent hand washing or harsh work conditions, a cream that contains silicone might be your best bet. The silicone is water resistant and forms a barrier between your skin and the elements.

The key to curing cracked, dry skin is consistency. Be sure to use all treatments regularly and do all you can do to avoid conditions that will make your skin worse. Never tug and pull on loose skin as this can cause more irritation and damage to deeper skin tissues. Instead, allow your skin to peel naturally or use an exfoliating sponge.

Never apply scented lotions to the affected areas as these can cause burning and stinging. You should also keep all cracked skin clean to avoid infection. If you suspect that an infection has set in or your condition gets worse, see a doctor immediately. You may need a prescription to heal your dry peeling skin.

www.dryskinsite.com brings you all the latest information you need to combat your dry skin problems. There's nothing to buy, just really helpful information. Be sure to check out pages like Dry Peeling Skin.

Sweaty Woman

By Mindy Limbart

I love the commercials that have a bunch of women working out all sexy and sweaty. I also love the commercials that show men doing the same thing - like running on a treadmill, and the woman next to him gets so enamored with his scent, that she falls off the treadmill. I would have to say that I have actually done the latter. Yes, you may laugh all you want, but I was watching my husband getting all sweaty on the stair-stepper next to me one workout morning. He stopped to wipe the sweat off his face and I suddenly had that, "Oh, my God - he's so sexy when he sweats," thought.

No really paying attention to where I was stepping to, I took on step off the machine, and ended up slipping on the mechanism. I fell at my husband’s feet, twisting my ankle in the process! Okay, so I’m a bit less coordinated when it comes to seeing my husband all hot and sweaty (trust me, it’s been over tens years with him, and I’m still falling all over myself like a newlywed!).

I, on the other hand, absolutely hate it if he even touches me when I’m all hot and sweaty. Now, there may be some times that we both get hot and sweaty – and I don’t mind – but, besides that, there’s nothing more gross. I happen to be the lucky one of many, however. My sister is the unlucky one. She ended up being stuck having to wear white tee shirts, or some kind of layered outfit when she was in high school – all because she had such high levels of hormones that she was always sweating.

There are a ton of ways to stop armpit sweat including include antiperspirants, botox, oral medications, surgery, and iontophoesis. Antiperspirants are usually more of a cover up when it comes to people with excessive sweat. Botox swells up the area and blocks sweat gland stimulation, but can be painful, of course. Just think – a needle going into your underarm – injecting you with bacteria. Yuck!

Oral medications tend to want to help with stress relief and tension – which tend to be big triggers of sweating profusely. Surgery just removes the sweat glands completely, but this is very dangerous – since sweat glands are meant to cool down the body temperature. Without them, you may end up with dehydration. Liposuction can remove the sweat glands by a suction from under the skin. You can go for Iontophoesis, where they can apply low intensity electrical currents to your sweat area – which has to initially be done several times a week.

How many commercials have you seen where there happen to be a bunch of women jumping and dancing around, but only one of them has her harms waving in the air. The others are looking around like they are ashamed, and checking to see if they have wet stains under their armpits. well, if one method doesn’t work – try, try again.

Are you finally ready to do something about your excessive sweating? Sweet, because I have some good news. You don't have to live with this perspiration problem any longer. Click here to find the ultimate solution to excessive sweating on ANY part of your body! It's literally guaranteed to work.

Keeping Your Body Odour Free

By Noble Ihezie

Body odour is the unpleasant spell caused by the mixing of perspiration, or sweat, and bacteria on the skin. Sweating or perspiration is the body’s way of relieving heat from within the body. Sweat is generally an odourless body secretion; however, the skin surface provides nutrients that help bacteria grow. These bacteria break down sweat into aromatic fatty acids, which produce the unpleasant odour. The concentration and number of bacteria vary in different parts of the body, the maximum being in parts like the scalp, armpits, genital areas and the feet.

ESSENTIAL TIPS ON MAINTAINING FRESHNESS

It is note worthy that body odour is often due to poor personal hygiene, but excessive perspiration is sometimes involved. Regardless of the cause, the need to cultivate the following habits is priceless.

1. Change Your Diet: This is perhaps the most neglected area in treating body odour. The only real long-time treatment will come from good hygiene, internal cleansing, elimination, and proper diet. Eat more fruits and vegetables and take less meat and dairy products. Drink lots of water.

2. Quiet The Diet: Certain foods will give you more sweat e.g. Chili, red hot pepper, coffee and nicotine. The aroma of certain pungent foods could also be carried in your sweat e.g. onion, garlic and beer. Cut down on these foods.

3. Keep Your Body Clean: Wash with soap daily; particularly your armpits, groin, and feet, where there are many sweat producing glands. If you sweat a lot, you may need to bath two or more times a day. Epson salts bath, alternate cold and hot showers daily will improve the blood circulation and reduce congestion in the body.

4. Use Antiperspirants And Deodorants Daily: Preferably, deodorants with aluminum or Zinc, as these metals kill odour-causing bacteria. Note however, that to keep yourself odour free you need to maintain cleanliness of yourself first.Shave your armpits at least once in two weeks.

5. Wash Clothes Thoroughly: Particularly clothing exposed to sweaty
areas such as socks, underwear, and shirts. Never wear yesterday’s
cloths no matter how clean your body is.

Wear natural fiber cloths: e.g. Cotton. Avoid wearing synthetic and
tight fitting clothes.

Dry Patchy Skin

By Della Franklin

It's hard not to get worried when you realize one day that you have patches of dry skin on your body. It can be disfiguring and distressing, especially if the patches appear on exposed parts of your body, such as your arms and face. For the most part, dry patchy skin is often only temporary and responds well to home treatment measures. This article will illustrate the more common causes of dry patchy skin, as well as how to avoid or treat them.

1. Ichthyosis

Ichthyosis literally means "fish skin", and is also known as "fish-scale disease" or "fish-skin disease." Ichthyosis is marked by scaly patches of dry skin that may occur anywhere in the body. The scaly patches vaguely resemble the scales of a fish. There is currently no way to avoid ichthyosis, but application of moisturizers can help improve the skin's condition.

2. Atopic Dermatitis

Atopic dermatitis is often called "eczema," and is the most common type of dermatitis. It is hereditary and runs in many families. The skin is unusually sensitive to irritants and allergens in food and the environment, presenting red, flaky dry skin. Atopic dermatitis occurs more commonly in infants, where it often attacks the cheeks. As with ichthyosis, moisturizers can help alleviate the symptoms, and over-the-counter steroid creams are also helpful. Avoiding known allergens is also a good idea.

3. Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a skin condition marked by a rapid growth of skin. Skin cells usually take 28 days to move from the hypodermis (the lowest portion of the skin) to the epidermis (the surface of the skin), where they die. With psoriasis, this cycle is compressed into a mere few days, resulting in large amounts of dry patchy skin which flake off. Psoriasis is often treatable by daily lukewarm baths or showers, mild soaps and cleansers, and moisturizers.

4. Neurodermatitis

Neurodermatitis is a type of dermatitis that is aggravated by scratching. Sometimes the skin becomes so dry and itchy that you scratch it on impulse. The scratching makes the dry skin worse, making it thicker and even itchier, until it develops an itchy patch of dry skin. Neurodermatitis often cannot heal unless you keep yourself from scratching, and this can be done by putting a bandage over the affected area. Moisturizers can also help soothe the itch.

5. Nummular Eczema

Nummular eczema is a type of rash that causes coin-shaped patches on the skin. While its cause is unknown, it has been found to be associated with dry skin and the winter months. Its condition has been found to improve with faithful application of moisturizers and prescription strength cortisone creams. Avoidance of wool clothing and not using fabric softeners in the laundry can also help ease the symptoms. It is often best to have the nummular eczema checked by your doctor in order to arrive at a more specific, effective treatment.

6. Seborrheic Eczema

Seborrheic eczema is better known as that annoying scalp problem, "dandruff." While the patches of dry skin appear most often on the scalp, they can also occur on the eyebrows, the face, in the armpits, the genitals, and around the navel; anywhere the oil glands are more concentrated. It is usually caused by oily skin, stress, infrequent shampooing, and use of cleansers with alcohol. Dandruff can be treated with the usual dandruff shampoos-leave the shampoo on your hair for five minutes to ensure the medication reaches the scalp. More serious cases of seborrheic eczema often merit a visit to the doctor.

Other causes include overexfoliating, overuse of Retin-A, and the use of moisturizers that contain alcohol. Overexfoliating can take its toll on your skin by drying it too thoroughly. Retin-A also tends to dry out the skin, and while it can benefit the skin with mild, controlled use, it can shrivel the skin and cause wrinkles when used too much. Alcohol also has a drying effect on the skin.

Treatments include drinking enough water to keep the skin hydrated (8 glasses a day is enough), resisting the urge to pick, scratch, or peel at the dry patchy skin (it can open fissures in the skin, inviting infection), and avoiding any skin products that contain alcohol.

The rule of thumb is to see the doctor when the dry patchy skin occurs suddenly and without warning. It may be a sign of a more serious skin condition. Also, see your doctor when the dry patchy skin fails to respond to home treatment. Your doctor may authorize a biopsy (taking a small piece of your skin and examining it under a microscope) to determine the exact cause of your affliction.

Scalp Eczema-Beat It Now

By Sylvia Johnstone

Scalp Eczema is a condition which affects many many people, yet a good percentage of them won’t even know they have it. The symptoms can be hard to spot at first, as they can manifest themselves as a lot of other conditions. In some people it can be no worse than mild dandruff, but in others in can causes blistering of the scalp and even hair loss. We’ve developed a few quick tips to help you get the best of it.

Eat Fish Oil

It has been found that Omega -3 Fish Oil has excellent healing effects on Scalp Eczema, and a few other conditions besides. The downside is that it can take around 12 weeks for your condition to show signs of improvement, but the upside is that Omega -3 Fish Oil supplements are pretty easy to find an inexpensive to boot.

The fish oil improves your Eczema because it contains Essential Fatty Acids. These are the chemicals that your body uses in order to breakdown certain enzymes and particles. The list of things that essential fatty acids can help with is pretty staggering- improving skin condition, leveling out your moods, producing the body’s energy, decreasing allergies and strengthening the immune system, to name but a few things. I’m sure you’re already thinking that taking some Omega -3 Fish Oil to help your scalp eczema is a good idea!

Eat Salads

I don’t mean the tiny token effort salads you get from a fast food joint, I mean the kinds of salads that your Grandma would be proud to make! All the vitamins and minerals in some of that greenery is very good for your skin and your body’s regeneration cycles, so the right salad can really put your efforts to beat scalp eczema on steroids!

One of the main things to include is Alfafa sprouts. Like the fish oil, Alfalfa sprouts seem like an amazing super food with which you can treat many ailments. They will really help your eczema as they are a natural detoxifier and anti oxidant, which means they will begin to rid your skin of the nasty bacteria which cause your Eczema to get inflamed and sore. Another of the benefits is that the sprouts are high in protein and will prevent DNA destruction, which will in turn help you look younger for longer. Didn’t I say it was a miracle food?

Eat one such large salad every single day, and this coupled with the Omega 3- Fish Oil supplements will have you noticing the difference in no time at all!

Scalp Eczema can be one of the most frustrating forms of Eczema as it is also one of the hardest to hide. Follow the guides above to get yours under control, and if you would like to beat it forever, check out the links below.

Click HERE to find out where you can really and truly cure your Eczema within the next 14 days, and be left with the glowing baby soft skin you've always dreamed of!!If you or someone you love has Eczema, you know what a burden it can be, and you owe it to yourself to click here and find out how to naturally cure that Eczema-And it's guaranteed to work!!

Skin Color - Keep Your Skin Young Looking With Even Skin Color

By CD Mohatta

You envy those who have an even skin tone, with no spots, pigmentation or aberrations on their skin. You wonder why some people are blessed with a flawless skin color? Melanocytes are the answer. To find out how you can get an even skin tone that will be the envy of others, you will need to know more about skin color and how it produces defects.

Skin color is because of pigments that are microscopic in size. They are called melanin. If this melanin is evenly spread over your face, you will get an even tone. Even otherwise, you find different skin tone on your body. Some areas are darker in color while some are lighter. Those who develop tan can also see the difference in color of their cloth protected skin and unprotected skin. This is all because of change in melanin density over different spots. This microscopic melanin must be understood to get a complexion you would love.

Lets begin.

Skin Color> Melanin Formation>

Melanin, as we have seen in the overview, consists of microscopic pigment particles that give the skin its color. Melanin also defends the skin against sun damage. As the sun rays strike our body, the UV rays begin damaging the skin and produce more free radicals. Melanin stops the damage to the skin by sun. It helps us fight skin cancer.

Melanin is formed by melanocytes - the cells that are scattered in the last layer of the epidermis. This layer is also called the basal layer. Melanocytes manufacture melanin and send it across to other parts of skin in a pack. This pack is called melanosome. The skin cells absorb these melanosomes and melanin is extracted. Melanin surrounds the DNA in the nucleus of the cell and protects the cell against sun. Sounds confusing? Let us only remember that melanocytes form melanin and this pigment gives color to the skin and protects it from sun.

In this part of the article we will find out about various skin color problems and treatment. With change in melanocyte distribution in the skin, you get many discolored spots and pigmentation problems. You may also get the problem of loosing pigments from skin, as happens in vitiligo.

More pigments cause different skin problems. Some of them are:

Moles,Liver Spots,Freckles,PIH, andMelasma.Sun exposure accentuates all of these problems. As you know, sun makes skin produce more melanin and that increases darkening problems.

Skin Color> Bleaching>

What about bleaching of the skin discoloration? Here we have to address two concerns:
1) Stopping formation of new melanocytes at the pigmented spot, and2) Removing the existing color on the pigmented spot.

Scientists have found that an enzyme called tyrosinase activates the production of melanin. This enzyme activity must be stopped on the discolored spot so that more melanin is not formed there. The common bleaching agents that help to stop formation of new melanin, are discussed below.

Currently the US FDA recognizes only hydroquinone as a bleaching agent. Other ingredients used in bleaching creams are called brighteners, lighteners, etc. Some of the common ingredients that can be used to stop further melanin getting produced are hydroquinone, kojic acid, and azelaic acid. Research is being conducted on many other molecules and some of them are getting incorporated in bleaching formulations.

The second problem, as we said is to remove the existing excess melanin. This can be done by exfoliating the skin and bringing fresh skin in its place. For that AHAs and tretinoin are commonly used.

You should consult your doctor and use a formulation that will not only remove the existing color, but also stop further color getting added. There are many formulations available and your doctor is the best person to address this. Take care that you don't use any product that irritates your skin and also avoid application on normal skin.

Acne Scars - They Need Not Be There For Life

By CD Mohatta

The severity of the acne scar, the location and type of treatments that can be done are factors that decide the method that can be used to treat acne scars. Let us discuss some of them.

Chemical peeling, laser, dermabrasion, microdermabrasion, excision surgery and collagen or fat tissue filling are the common methods to treat acne scars. Depending upon your scars, your doctor will advise you about the kind of treatment you may have to undergo. Many people prefer to get treated only for deep scars and hope that the mild scars will resolve with time.

Tretinoin and acne scars-

Tretinoin comes as a cream or gel and it peels the upper layer of the skin. By repeated application, your mild superficial scar will become less prominent. You have the option of using an OTC product or a prescription product. Please consult your doctor about that. Along with treating mild scars tretinoin also removes dead skin cells and removes superficial age lines and spots.

Chemical peeling and acne scars-

Acne Scars can be easily removed with Chemical peeling. This method has been used since years for not only removing acne scars but also other skin blemishes and discolorations. With Chemical peeling doctors remove the layers of skin with chemicals. With the new skin forming the earlier blemishes disappear.

Microdermabrasion and acne scars-

In microdermabrasion small crystals are thrown at a high velocity and collected back by vacuum. These small crystals abrade the skin surface in a minimal way, removing the dead skin cells and some disfigured spots slowly. With repeated treatments, you may see some improvement in the scars. Microdermabrasion can be performed at home.

Healthy, Natural Products To Leave You Feeling Relaxed and Refreshed!

By Mary Daniels

I am going to share with you some advantages of using bath and body products that come from the earth's own healthy, natural properties. Properties such as natural exfoliating, invigorating, replenishing, and pampering for you and your whole family...including the pets!

On my website, www.bathandbodycomfort.com, I carry products that are made ONLY with healthy and natural ingredients. Some of the ingredients would be essential oils that will provide an aromatherapy atmosphere to your bath time experience, as well as, a healthy way to relieve stress and rid your body of toxins that build up in our bodies daily. There are also herbs, salts, clays, (our Dead Sea Collection will provide an exotic experience to your bath and body routine) and botanicals that will add to your already comfortable and private spa-like experience, but without the expensive spa prices.

I have an array of products from individual natural and healthy soaps, lotions and creams to soften your skin after a long hard day at work or play, masks/scrubs to rid your skin of the dry, dead skin cells that accumulate on our face and body, candles (to bring that warm and intimate feeling to your bath time), shower gels and bubble bath, body butters to soothe your dry and tired skin, lip treatments, hair treatments, children's products to keep your child's skin healthy and smooth, pet products to provide the family's precious pet with a refreshing opportunity to stay clean and healthy, accessories to accompany the products and complete the pleasurable, private experience of taking care of the whole person...YOU!! We also have gift baskets, which are for everyone, all occasions and have varying prices.

It's important for us to take care of our bodies, and by using products that are healthy, natural and come from the earth, we can be assured that we will be giving our bodies those necessary nutrients to bring back that refreshed and replenished look and feeling we all need to stay comfortable and relaxed in this hectic world!

Mary Daniels owns http://www.bathandbodycomfort.com and has contacts with several businesses and suppliers that make and/or distribute these healthy, natural products. Mary is concerned that so many products today contain too many additives and unnecessary chemicals which are harsh and destructive to our skin and bodies. Mary is selling all healthy, natural products to promote the use of products that won't harm our bodies, but leave us feeling clean, refreshed, and invigorated. I wanted to provide a website that offered people the opportunity to purchase products that would not promote an allergic reaction or leave them feeling uncomfortable. I want people to be able to get away from the stresses of the world and the anxieties that come along with it, and be able to relax with the products that I am providing them.

Bath and Body Comfort is something that Mary came up after being concerned with today's harsh chemicals involved in bath and body products. She decided to do something about it; so she is selling completely healthy and natural bath and body products.

Skin Care Tips for Mature Skin

By Wendy Tay

We all know what we want – good looking skin. To achieve that, one cannot afford to be lazy! Many factors contribute to healthy skin. We shall ignore the good genes for now, and look at what we can do instead. One will soon find out, it’s not just the skin care that matters, the diet and other lifestyle habits have a role to play too.

1. Skin Care

The key priority is to protect and revitalize the mature skin. As much as possible, avoidirritation to the skin. Choosing a mild cleanser over deodorant soaps is a good way to start.

Avoid alcohol-based toners as well.

The one most important step in a skin care regimen is to MOISTURIZE. I can’t emphasis the importance of moisturizing any more. Applying moisturizer helps to maintain the balance of moisture of the skin (as dry skin tends to mature faster than other skin types). Moisturizing the skin diminishes the appearances of lines and pores, hence giving the skin a supple look.

Moisturizing is not just for the face. It is equally important at the delicate eye area too.

Adequate hydration of the eyes helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

If one is heading outdoors, the SUNCREEN is a must. It protects again the harmful ultra-violet (UV) rays of the sun, which can be extremely damaging to the skin. Exposure to UV rays without protection is the main cause of the fine lines, wrinkles and pre-mature aging. Make an effort to apply sunscreen 15 minutes before sun exposure. Choose broad spectrum sunscreen for protection against UVA and UVB rays. Lastly, a SPF factor of at least 30 is suitable for outdoor purposes.

There are many remedies for aging skin, including serums, creams and even medical procedures like collagen injection, skin resurfacing and laser. If one is afraid of going under the needle, the creams are a much safer (and cheaper) option. Choose one according to your needs and budget.

2. Diet

You are what you eat.

Good skin can also be a result of a proper diet. Include a serving of vegetables for every meal, especially the green leafy ones. If the vegetables are not enough, add on a serving of fruits as well. When the skin gets its nutrition, it aids the process of cellular repair, minimizing the damage from the sun or other environmental factors.

Drink plenty of water; at least 8 glasses of water a day. The water helps to keep the body (and skin) hydrated, as well as reducing the amount of toxins that stays in the body.

3. Lifestyle

Relax! Avoid stress and tension as they may increase fine lines and wrinkles. Exercising can be a great way to relax, and improve blood circulation.

For the smoking ladies, this may be a good reason to quit! Smoking has been shown to speed up the aging of the skin. If you want good skin, think twice before you light up!

Skincare For Men - Men Are You Caring For Yours?

By Kim Snyder

Skin care basics aren’t just for women.

A good skin care regimen is essential for men as well. What is the difference between men’s skin care and women’s skin care? The only real difference is that men shave. Otherwise, the basics are pretty much the same. However, not all products are made the same.

Skin care essentials made with natural ingredients are an excellent choice all around.

Some products that are used to clean the skin contain harsh chemicals and can strip the skin of much-needed natural oils and moisture. The chemicals can also leave a detergent film behind which can irritate the skin and cause breakouts.

Men have oilier skin and larger pores than women.

Daily cleansing is vital to healthy skin. A good scrub, one that invigorates your skin without tearing it, is a good choice. Toning and moisturizing after cleansing are the next steps to great looking skin. When considering a toner, choose one with the least amount of chemicals. One that contains around 5% glycolic is best and can be used daily to keep skin firm. This also helps your skin to fight off the effects of the many pollutants in the environment today. The moisturizer you choose should, once again, be one with natural ingredients.

Make sure to hydrate your face and neck on a daily basis.

Moisturizing helps to prevent wrinkles as men age. Vitamin E and Aloe Vera are great natural moisturizers. Don’t miss the area under the eyes, where age will show before anywhere else on the face. Keep Vitamin E capsules on hand and use the pure vitamin E under the eyes for an intense moisturizing treatment.

Every person has a different skin type.

Whether you have oily, normal or dry skin, it is important to ex-foliate regularly to remove dead skin cells. Also, after shaving, men need to apply a moisturizer that doesn’t contain alcohol or has an intense scent. Sensitive skin is especially prone to react negatively if harsh chemicals are used. Go with something that contains chamomile or another soothing natural ingredient. Lip balm with an SPF of at least 15 is a good way to protect and hydrate your lips.

Facials aren’t just for women.

Men benefit just as well from either a home facial or a spa facial. If you go to a spa, the professionals there can tell you how to best care for your skin type. You are never too manly to NOT go to a spa and have a facial done. Everything is based on how you look these days.

Men who care about their skin need to actively protect it from the elements.

Stay hydrated by drinking at least eight glasses of water a day. Exercise is vital to healthy skin since it increases the amount of oxygen traveling to the skin tissues which can ward off premature aging. If you are going to be in the sun for longer periods of time, protect the skin with a block containing at least 15 SPF or higher. You‘ll protect yourself not only from unsightly brown age spots, but skin cancer as well. Sunglasses protect your eyes from overexposure to the sun too.

Skin is affected by our diet and our habits.

Try to stay away from anything in excess. Moderation is the key when it comes to alcohol consumption, smoking, and eating. Stress and fatigue also affect our skin in negative ways. A good night’s rest is important not only to function well, it is great for healthy skin too! Eat foods that are high in Vitamin E and Vitamin C, or take supplements to get your daily recommended dosage. Its time for all men, young and old to start caring for their skin and start today , its never too late!

Homemade Facials - What is Best On Your Face?

By Kim Snyder

Everyone knows that having a facial done at least four times a year can be amazing for your skin. Those beauty experts have the tools and the know-how to unclog your pores and exfoliate properly. The only thing is you are talking at least $60 dollars a visit.

If you can’t go to a fancy day spa due to lack of time why not pamper yourself at home with a homemade facial. It can be just as effective using real food you have around your kitchen. These can be such things like yogurt or cucumbers. Be careful if you have never used these items before on your face, you would hate to have a allergic reaction to it. In fact never used on your face any food item you are allergic to. It’s a known fact that if you are allergic to a food it will cause you to break out even if you did not eat it.

Whatever food you do use, you should test it on your inner arm before smearing it on your face.

Then wait at least one hour to 24 hours before going ahead and trying it out on your face. Its just to make sure that the spot doesn’t become red or irritated. Give these four kitchen facials recipes a try, they can make you feel and look younger and you might be temped to eat the leftovers! Because each of us have different types of skin, its best to try out a recipe geared towards your skin-type.

We all know that peaches and cream are amazing for your face but have you tried these recipes out before?

For all skin types:

Tropical Breeze Facial

1 Banana1 Mango

1 Cup Crushed Pineapple

1 Tbs Olive OilMix all 3 fruits together in a blender until it becomes a thick liquid.

Apply it to your face avoiding your eyes.

Wash off with warm water after three to five minutes.

Pat face with cool water.

Moisturize with Olive Oil.

Got dry skin, then try this:

1~ egg yolk

1~ Tablespoon honey Mix them well and set aside.

1~ Tablespoon oatmeal

1~ Tablespoon almond meal.Mix those together and then mix that into the egg mixture.

Add 1 Tablespoon milk or yogurt.

Apply the mixture to your face and allow it to dry completely.

About 20 – 30 minutes.

Wash with a cloth soaked with warm water, rinse with warm then cool water.

Pat Dry, then apply your moisturizer.

For oily skin why not try this?

1~ egg white

Beat the egg white till foamy.

Then apply to your face especially to the T zone.

Leave on for 15 minutes.Rinse thoroughly with warm water, then cool water.

Pat dry.

Got Blemishes?

Then try these simple but very good homemade facials. Milk and honey does your face good.

1~ Tablespoon Milk

1~ Tablespoon Honey (well documented for its drawing power)

1~ egg

Mix everything together and let sit till warm temperature.

Apply to your face atleast 20 minutes or till hardened.

Rinse your face thoroughly with warm water, then cool water.

Pat dry.

Did you know that a tomato can help draw out blackheads naturally?

Take one tomato and rub it on the affected areas. It helps restore acidity to your skin’s surface.

Rinse and pat dry. Apply your moisturizer.

Take time to visit your kitchen for homemade facials and you will find your face feeling soft and smooth and younger looking starting today! Nature knows what is best for us, and its always going to be better for your skin to check out other recipes if needed. Should I Use Tanning Products?

By Baxter Owens

"There are a number of tanning products on the market today and so you might be having trouble figuring out which ones are the right ones for you. But you shouldn’t be questioning whether or not to use them at all. Whether you’re looking at products that will help you more safely achieve a natural tan when you’re out in the sun or you’re considering products that can maximize the benefits of the indoor tanning experience, you definitely need to have the right products for your situation. Without these products, you run the risk of damaging your skin. At the very least, you minimize the benefits of tanning.

Out of all of the tanning products, the one that you need to make sure to put on your list is tanning lotion. There are different kinds of tanning lotions that serve different purposes so you’ll have to do your research and consider your needs before you pick the final bottled or two, but there’s little doubt that this is a tanning product that should always be at hand. Tanning lotions provide the moisturizing that your skin needs to most effectively (and least harmfully) maximize the benefits of tanning.

Although tanning lotion is the most important of the tanning products, you will likely need other products as well depending on your tanning situation. Some of the tanning products that you might consider adding to your salon bag include:

• Sunless Tanner – This product is used without exposure to the sun or to a tanning bed. This product is right for people who are seeking to get a temporary tan without sun exposure. It’s commonly known as “spray-on” tan and is for the purpose of appearance.

• Bronzer – Like sunless tanner, bronzer is a product which is only temporary. You should use this product in the same way that you would use cosmetic make-up. Note that there are tingling and non-tingling bronzers and that the tingling kind is only for those people who are experienced at tanning.

• Tanning Pills – Some people choose to take tanning pills which are said to improve the appearance of the skin. These are not currently FDA approved.

• Tanning Accelerator – This is used on a daily basis to stimulate the body into better tanning ability. You should discuss its use with your tanning salon professionals if you are considering this product.

• Tan Extender Lotion – This is one of the more popular tanning products among people who regularly tan, especially those who tan indoors in a controlled environment. It allows the body to continue tanning even after the tanning bed has been left for the day.

So, the question really isn’t whether or not you should use tanning products but rather, which tanning products are right for you. Everyone can benefit from tanning whether it’s just for cosmetic reasons or to improve the overall health of your skin. Tanning lotions are the product to start with you but you can go from there as your experience with tanning grows."

The Advantages of Using Tanning Lotion

By Baxter Owens

"You’ve probably seen the tanning lotions that are on the shelf at every drug store and cosmetics shop in the nation. How can you miss them when they’re sitting right next to the sunscreen that you know to pick up on a regular basis? But have you ever really taken a good look at them and what they do? Tanning lotion can improve the tone of your natural tan and speed the process by which you get it, giving you a glowing appearance that your skin might be lacking.

Most people are confused about the way that tanning lotion works. They think that you just slather the stuff on and then you suddenly have the golden bronzed skin of the movie stars you admire. Not quite. By itself, tanning lotion will only change your skin a little bit. This is why many people who do bother to pick up the product rapidly discontinue its use. But what they don’t realize is that taking that tanning lotion and using it in conjunction with the right tanning techniques and exposure to sun rays (or tanning salon rays) will quicken the tanning process and improve the appearance of the tan.

You might be asking yourself why you would want to use tanning lotion instead of just waiting for the tan to take hold naturally. Well, first things first – a look at reality will rapidly remind you that you’ve got a busy life and a penchant for instant gratification. Really, why wait for that tan to come on its own when you can easily nudge it along with a little lotion? And did you know that the right products will allow you to continue to tan even after you’re no longer in the sun (or at the tanning salon)? Tan extender lotions can be applied so that you can get back to your busy life while still allowing your body to get the most out of the tanning experience.

But, more importantly, tanning lotion offers the advantage of protecting your skin from the elements while you tan. Let’s face it; the sun isn’t very good for your skin. And tanning salons aren’t much better (although they’re a controlled environment). Using tanning lotions can help to prevent the damage that the sun can cause to your skin. They moisturize the body, reducing the drying and wrinkling of the skin that can happen as a result of sun exposure. In a sense, tanning lotions almost act as an anti-aging agent because they allow your skin to tan without obtaining the negative premature aging effects that occur in the sun.

As a result of the fact that your skin is protected – and therefore healthier – when you use tanning lotions, you’ll find that a tan obtained while using the lotion is actually a more attractive tan than one that you get just from being out in the sun too long. A non-lotion tan can sometimes be uneven or splotchy and often reflects the damage that the sun has done to the skin. In contrast, a tan that you get while properly using tanning lotion (and the right tanning techniques) will be smooth and even, allowing your natural glow to shine through your healthy skin."

Is It Possible To Prevent Stretch Marks?

By Patricia Zelkovsky

Before you can prevent stretch marks you first have to understand what stretch marks are and what causes them to appear. Stretch marks are formed when the skins ability to stretch has been exceeded by it's growth. Simply put, it means that your body grows more quickly than your skin does. This can be due to growth spurts, pregnancy, weight gain or muscle growth.

Since the body is pulling the skin taut it tears slightly and scars over, this scarring is the stretch mark itself. When a stretch mark first occurs, it will often appear red and feel itchy, then slowly starts to fade to a lighter color.

Is there anything that can be done to prevent stretch marks?

Even though you can't stop natural growth spurts you can control other aspects of your skin. Proper nutrition is essential. You want to make sure that you are giving your skin it's best building blocks by eating plenty of fresh fruit and veggies as these contain a high water content that will hydrate your skin and also micro-nutrients that are essential for healthy skin. Don't yo-yo diet as this causes you to gain and lose weight at a rate which is usually faster then your skin can adapt to.

You also want to make sure that you are avoiding circumstances that can dry out your skin as dry skin is more likely to get stretch marks than soft and pliable skin. This means that you should avoid the sun or at least wear a high quality sun tan lotion with an SPF or 30 or more and one that blocks both UVA and UVB sun rays. Treat your entire body the way you would your face. After all, skin is skin and although you don't really notice wrinkles on your calves or thighs, if you look close enough you may be surprised. On second thought, don't look at your knees as I don't want you to start worrying about wrinkled knees, we have enough other skin areas to stress about. Also try to avoid any harsh soaps and body gels, and if you go to the beach or swim in a chlorinated pool be sure to rinse thoroughly as soon as possible. Both salt and chlorine can really wreck havoc with your skin (and hair).

Hydrate your body from the inside out by drinking plenty of plain water and avoid caffeine. If you must drink products with caffeine be sure to drink equal amounts of water over and above the recommended eight glasses of water a day. Apply skin lotion often if you live in a dry climate or have the heat turned on due to chilling temperatures. To counter act the effects of dry air, place a pot of water on the stove and let it simmer for a while. The steam will permeate the air and add moisture to the room. Another trick is to turn a hot shower on for a few minutes ( but don't go in it) and let it steam the room right before you go to bed. This steam will dry out when the heat comes on, instead of drying out your skin.

When you do shower, avoid very hot water as this opens up your pores and dries out your skin.
If you remember these few simple tips you may be able to avoid some unnecessary stretch marks.

Eat healthy with lots of fruits and veggies

Drink plenty of water and avoid caffeinated products

Rinse your body after swimming in the ocean or pool

Bathe in lukewarm, not hot water

Apply skin lotion frequently

Avoid gaining or losing weight quickly and often

By treating all your skin gently and with the same respect that you give towards your face, you may be able to prevent some stretch marks from appearing, and the ones that you do get will be smaller and less noticeable.
