Why skin care? Your skin is actually the largest organ in your body. Most people do not think of it as an organ, but it covers and protects everything inside your body. In other-words, skin holds everything together. It protects our bodies, helps to keep our bodies at just the right temperature, and allows us to have the sense of touch, all accomplished in 3 layers. It is the part of your youthfulness that everyone can see. How you take care of it at a young age, can determine how "youthful" you look in your older age.
Of course there are things that are genetic and a result of time, but recent studies have shown that there are many factors in our lives that contribute to the aging process. The most common one is the sun. Back in the 1970's the most promoted ingredient for tanning was baby oil. Everyone put it on their bodies and literally "baked." With the increase in skin cancer and therefore, skin cancer awareness, sunscreens became more prevalent, and more advertised as we became more educated to skin cancer prevention.
There are other factors that affect the health of our skin like diet. Healthy skin needs vitamins like A, E, C, and Zinc. Research foods with these vitamins and include them in your diet. You can also find good topical creams that are loaded with vitamins A, E, C, and Zinc.
Other factors that contribute to the aging process are smoking, stress, lack of sleep, pollution, and over exercising. Yes, over exercising. Anything good can get out of balance if it is done in extreme.
Many of these factors that contribute to the aging process are connected. According to the American Psychological Association (APA), two-thirds of Americans say they are likely to seek help for stress. Fifty-four percent of Americans are concerned about the level of stress in their everyday lives. In a survey of 2000 people done by the Better Sleep Council (BSC), fifty-one percent of Americans say stress disturbs their sleep. All of these factors affect our skin health.
Take you skin health serious. Take note of your family skin history, just like you would do for any other medical history in your family; find out if there is any history of skin cancer; and use moisturizers or facial make-up with some type of UV protection every time you walk out the door. We may not be able to fight Mother Nature, but we can certainly try and outwit her through good skin health practices.
I know that every woman deserves to look and feel breathtakingly beautiful. I rely on the healthy products I find at Skin Care to keep my skin young and fresh.
