What is Hypoallergenic Skincare?
By Gerald Markowitz

Your skin is the largest organ in your body, responsible for protecting the inner organs, synthesizing vitamins from sunlight and shielding the body against invading bacteria. Sensible care of your skin will keep away some of the worst health problems you may have. What I mean by sensible skincare is the choices we make. Is it sensible to use any skincare because of the pretty container or should we look a little deeper and choose hypoallergenic skincare products for our long term safety?

One of the persistent issues you may be grappling with are allergies. In all the concerns you may have about what you are eating and drinking, the environment in which you travel or work, you may never count those dependable lotions and creams as the possible source of the problem.

That innocuous jar of pink night salve on your dressing table is what you put on every night, when your pores have all opened up after a warm shower. It feels great of course and your skin does look better, but that doesn't mean it's safe for your skin. Along with the emollient and moisturizing oils that you may have absorbed into your system, are preservatives called parabens.

No one was troubled about parabens until recently they were discovered in not just one, but twenty samples of breast cancer tissue. That was conclusive proof for those advocating natural skincare that they are likely to be toxic for the human system. Since then studies have been conducted to search for definite links between kidney, liver, hormone, and allergic disorders, and parabens.

While there is no proof yet, what is certain is that these synthetic chemicals mimic the action of human estrogens, which can lead to a number of connected problems, including tumours and reproductive illnesses. That all skincare products, whether or not they are labelled 'hypoallergenic', are liable to cause skin irritations and allergies are already known to many with sensitive skin.

Paraben-free skincare products that aim to provide completely safe and pure skincare are now available. There are very few companies that produce these unusual products, and you will need to search for them. The products they use are all natural, and sourced from safe, pesticide-free areas, which makes them all the more important as well as expensive.

There are other reasons for allergies coming up with using hypoallergenic skincare products. One of the leading causes can be the type of fragrance used. Being fragrance-free should be your objective; use perfumes, rather than perfumed face creams. The processing of the ingredients can also spoil the formulation, and result in harm to your skin. Other additives like alcohol and colour play their own part in causing skin irritations. Read the label and make careful choices about what you buy.

Finally, you are completely responsible for what you do for your skin. Eating the correct diet and drinking plenty of water helps immensely in ensuring that you always look your best. Remember to keep your skin clean and give it the safest and most healthy kind of care that you can find.
