Home sweet Spa

Every woman deserves an area in her home that is entirely hers. If you do not have that space, begin to create one. It will be your own laboratory, where you can establish a home “spa”. This area will be the one place you will use to store your own ideas and creations and try some of the tips that I will share with you below.

Make your own tooth whiteners

Dental care is an aspect of beauty that many do not bother about. Many brush only once a day, and most do not bother about the colour of their teeth, consequently only few people have white dentition .

Apart from its natural function of grinding your food, your teeth also adds to your total appearance. Those with white teeth usually have better smiles and look more attractive. For adults who have not been taking care of theirs, it may be a bit late to get them white again, because years of plaque build up makes them almost impossible to clean off.

So the dentists tells us whatever the case, one should make an effort to clean one’s teeth properly. You should brush first thing in the morning and last thing at night, after supper.

Twice a year or once a year, you should clean your teeth professionally at the dentist. To whiten teeth, grind charcoal to a paste, add a drop of water or lemon juice, and brush after your regular wash. Do this once a week.

Burnt toast

It may sound strange, but burnt toast is effective in whitening teeth. Pound a couple of slices into a powder and add a few drops of peppermint oil. The charcoal in the toast is the key ingredient.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Mix 1 teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide and 1 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda. Brush your teeth with this mixture once a week. Be very careful not to swallow! This formula will reduce tarter and remove coffee and tea stains.

Do-it-yourself Mouthwashes

Tea Wash: Boil a strong cup of herbal (peppermint, spearmint, etc.) tea. Cool and rinse.

Honey/Clove Rinse

Mix 60ml (2fl oz) of honey with 1 teaspoon of ground cloves. This mouthwash can be thinned down if desired.

Agony of the feet

What is it about feet? Some people love theirs, and there are some who will never show them, ever. Most of us just feel that our feet are not our best feature. We try to ignore them and rarely discuss them. Salons report clients’ come in with a list of apologies relating to their feet.

How interesting that we feel that way about a potentially lovely part of our body. Properly, cared for, the foot can become a major beauty asset. The foot is without a doubt the most neglected part of the anatomy. Historically considered an erogenous zone, feet are overdue for a rethink.

Soak your feet

At least once a week, step 4 tea bags (purchase an inexpensive brand because it will contain a larger amount of tannic acid) in 460ml (16fl oz) of boiling water for at least 5 minutes. Add the same amount of cool water. Soak for up to 30 minutes. Note: Don’t use herbal tea, because it’s the tannic acid that will cause proteins in the skin to bond. This thickens the skin and blocks many of its sweat pores.Tegali saloon at the VGC Lagos offers this service at no extra charge.

Perspiration

Perspiring can collect in the cleavage and especially under the bust. Keep the area dry by dusting the breasts with talcum powder before dressing.
